" But now that course might change. After Bush went off against Oakland, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland and Segal talked about having future contract discussions. Call it the preliminary step toward re-signing Bush."
If Reggie Bush decided that Miami will be his future, it really can have so much impact on everything else that doesn't happen on the field.
Players around this league have respect for Reggie Bush, a lot of them growing up with him being a fan, it would help repair the culture around here if he decides to stay, hope he does, he's ballin on the field..
This dude is growing into a leader, becoming a true blood, nobody out works him, he's diverse, and we know he's got talent..let's not over think this, the combination of positive factors is damn strong..

I really didn't expect much from Reggie Bush coming in. Sure a few crazy rushes, but not the consistent force he's been turning into.
The dude deserves to be paid on the level of any of the top backs in the league, especially so if he's actively trying to step into a leadership role and be an anchor for this team.dolfan7171 and Tone_E like this. -

I think its a no brainer to get a deal done with Reggie. At this point, he's our only playmaker.

Pay him.

Its pretty typical for a RB to relax after getting a big contract.I dont think Reggie Bush will be one of those .He has a great work ethic and we should have enough cap space to sign him to a top 10 RB contract

Post-it note preliminary?

Philbin has to be impressed with Reggie's work ethic this is good for the team as a whole.

I remain very conflicted about Reggie Bush. He's by far my favorite player and everything you could want in an athlete: Talented, fun to watch, hard working, dead sexy :shifty:, etc.
But running back is still a plug & play position.
That being said, I agree with everybody else that signing Reggie would be a great example of what kind of player this franchise is willing to reward.
Weird situation here though. Ireland could do what might not be a terrible thing in letting a player who plays a plug and play position walk, and the fan in me would be furious. He could potentially be making a mistake if he plays a plug and play position huge money at the risk of other more crucial positions but the fan in me would absolutely love it.
All in all, wrong or right this Dolphin fan wants to see Reggie Bush be a Dolphin for the rest of his career. -
I would love to have Reggie for a few more seasons.

The way the Dolphins do their contracts lately it would probably be a 3 year contract that is really a 2 year contract like Soilia.MonstBlitz likes this. -
Pay him. He's only 27. Sign him to a 5 year deal where we can cut him after 3 or 4.

Why folks like Ronnie brown, Vernon Carey, John Jerry, etc, cannot understand this important approach to the game, why ownership is not taking steps in order to make sure everyone does, is mind boggling to me..
Every mans body can reach their personal optimum level, but the intelligence to conceptualize the importance, is where many fail.mullingan and MonstBlitz like this. -
Pay him. Very few players on any team that you can say you are proud they are on your team. RB is one of those guys. If his play keeps up he will end his career as one of the most beloved players of this franchise

I have been totally surprised by Reggie Bush since he was traded to the Dolphins. I expected him to come in and be a back who was a part time player, and who would be used on third down passing plays. Similar to how he was used with the Saints. I never thought he would be a back who could constantly be used as the teams primary back, or a back that could run up the middle.
Bush has proved that he is one of the top backs in the NFL and I hope the Dolphins are able to sign him to a new long term contract. -

IMO, Starks is a higher priority, love Reggie B but Miller is here for a reason.

When we traded for Bush, I stated that I preferred Sproles, but I also speculated that if in speaking to Bush, he convinced me that he was coming in to be more than a part-time player that I probably would have traded for him as well. (This was after public comments Bush made to that effect). Well IMO Bush has more than lived up to those comments. I generally prefer to not pay big at the RB position, but in this case, I would make an exception. I think Bush helps establish the culture you want on the team. That has value and is not something that I see as plug and play. Philbin is establishing that culture, but you need generals on the field to back it up. I see Bush as one those on the field leaders.

Would love to see them able to work out a deal but Reggie is going to want top dollar and I think that that could be a problem.

This is his 7th season. He never really had a heavy workload before last season, so not all that tread worn. I'd sign him to a 3 year extension. Ten years is about the limit for a running back. One without a lot of heavy work his first 5 seasons, should be able to maintain his level of play for 3 more years, barring injury. But, barring injury is how it is for all players. Can't really predict that in most cases.
I never realized it, but through 2010, before Miami, he had more yards receiving, 2142, than he did rushing, 2090. -
Karlos Dansby would probably shoot up the Dolphins headquarters if they let Bush walk after a huge year.
