This debate has been going on now for a year, there are some positives and negatives in his play over the past year. The big question still remains....Is he the guy?? You would like to see him answer the questions like Sanchez is doing, but obviously that isnt the case...So what is it guys?? The coaching?? Him?? I mean he should be displaying some signs and I dont think he has really. He has a good arm......great...but honestly I dont think he has a good melon....I believe he is too dense to be the guy...he cant read defenses (which I am not sure if you can ever fix that, it is an ability), and his touch on the balls isnt there....
Take this into account, this is the Pats homepage, there are interviews of alot of the players, go to Rob Ninkovich and listen to it, starting around the 1:20 mark.....he is talking about his interceptions...WOW!!!! This is a scrub LB'er telling you that..."Henne stares at you"...you cant win with a QB in this league like that, and his stats will forever be 50-50 TD/interceptions if he cant/doesnt look off receivers, something he has yet to do...

Yes he is. He's still young, and will make some mistakes. He's also completely awesome at times.
Give the kid a chance, he started his 17th game last night. After two years, Drew Brees sucked and was a bust.
My God, let the guy mature can we. Not every QB just walks into the league a huge success - most have severe growing pains. He's got the skills, he's shown several times he has what it takes to take the team down the field. Give him time to settle down. And by time, I mean, more than 17 games.NolePhin, hugoguzman and Germanfinfan like this. -
The guy has made 17 freaking starts in this league. Give him some time to get everything down.
There has been progression since last year. So that is a very good sign.brandon27, Germanfinfan and DolfanTom like this. -

Yes he is.
I still have confidence in Henne, he didn't loose the game last night for us. He threw two dumb picks, sure, but even with them we were up one point by halftime.
Then Bonamegos special teams zombies walked onto the field and everything was a freakin mess. What did Henne do? He went down the field for another TD.
I don't think any other QB would have been able to bring his team back after the following blocked FG return for a Touchdown.
Henne played well against the Jests and he wasn't that worse against the cheaters, so stay calm guys, the season is still long and we will see our Phins get back on track sooner than you think:up:hugoguzman and DolfanTom like this. -
I have confidence in Henne still too. Even with the INTs, his game yesterday was still decent. Special Teams ****ed the Phins yet again as I know you saw...

I think he is, with a caveat; Can he eliminate the once-a-game (sometimes twice a game) bone-headed interception(s)?
29 of 39 for 302 and 2 TD's are great...3 INT's are not. If he were in his 5th or 6th year, I'd say he's no more than a solid backup. However, he just completed his 17th start, so realistically from now going forward he needs to make significant improvement.
I like that they've let him loose. Now it's up to him to cut down on the mistakes.hugoguzman, adamprez2003 and alen1 like this. -
Henne's not "the guy"
...he's the Machine.
I expect a two-week tune-up for our Model-TD and he'll be firing on all cylinders in Lambeau. -
Henne yes
Henning no
You have to give this offense a chance to succeed
Our OC doesn't do that -

Of the three picks, the first one I'll let go. He has to learn he can't muscle that in there, he's got to put some arch on it to get it out there.
The second was just bad! Sure, he wanted to throw more towards the sideline, but that's a risky throw he shouldn't make period.
The third - he thought Marshall was going to zig when instead he zagged. Happens to EVERY QB at some point or another.
The third, it happens. The first two are correctable either by better throws or better decisions. And those both come w/ more starts!
The kid is the best talent we've had at the position since we all know when. Let's enjoy it - he will get better, and when he is regularly a top-10 QB, we'll always have a shot in most games, no matter what the rest of the team is doing. -
I really don't think he was all that bad really. 74% completion percentage, 2 TD's, IMO 2INT's. In your 17th game as a starter. Heaven forbid a QB make a few mistakes along the way as he develops and grows as a player. It happens.
That being said, I think both of the first two INT's were bad decisions on his part really. The first one to Marshall, everyone in the stadium knew that ball was going to Marshall. Henne must not have seen Ninkovic underneath, or something, I don't know. No explanation there, it was a poor decision all the way.
That second INT, normally we see Henne throw that ball away when he's out of the pocket and about to get drilled. No idea why he tried to force it. I don't know if maybe the way he was "shredding" the pats D early led to him being maybe a bit overconfident, and he thought he could force it. No idea.
The catch though to those two INT's, it appears that our game plan early on, was to attached with 5-10 yard passes and then let the WR's do their jobs, after the Bess TD, BB reigned in his D, and ESPN even showed him huddled up with him on the sidelines coaching them up, and obviously making adjustments. We continued to try and do the same thing though, and we paid for it. At least thats how it appeared, maybe I'm wrong, but it sure felt/looked that way.
The third INT, well its quite obvious Marshall just stopped on that route. Marshall had the right idea seeing as if he stops there, he's wide open, but when your QB is expecting you to continue with that route as the play is designed and you stop as he's throwing, nothing good is going to happen there. Ever. I don't put that one on Henne at all.
But you can't deny the fact that he still overall played well. Anytime you complete 74% of your passes you did alot of things right. Young QB's are going to make mistakes. People have to remember, 17th start. He's been babied in all of them, now we're turning him loose a bit, he's going to make mistakes. It's the only way players learn. I'm not denying those were two bad decisions.
The progess is there from last year, he's making plays, making some nice touch passes, in particular one he threw to brown that he lobbed up over a defender who was blitzing and dropped it right into ronnie. Mistakes are going to be made, he's inexperienced. Only way to learn, is by being out there on the field, making plays, making mistakes, then being properly coached by the QB coach, the OC, the HC, and Pennington on how to learn from it, and avoid it in the future. Thats how players develop.texasPHINSfan, resnor, Stitches and 1 other person like this. -

Just because he isn't an all-pro in his 17th start doesn't mean he isn't the guy. Drew Brees was doing worse than Henne is so far in his first 17 starts, and Brees really didn't click until his 3rd year starting (or about his 1000th pass).
The 1st pick was a bad read and throw, and the 2nd one was a bad throw (needed to be more towards the sideline). I can't put the 3rd pick on Henne, but those first two almost surely took points off the board with how we were moving the ball. And that is what can't happen. We can have incompletions in those instances, but we can't have turnovers. This is Henne's first bad game all season so far IMO (which sucks since he was so good outside of the two picks). I would like very much for it to be his only bad game the rest of the year, even if every game is not a great game.Frumundah Finnatic likes this. -
I was actually waiting for henne to rip off his jersey to reveal he is wearing a pats jersey underneath it. I figured then he and bonamego would run over to the pats sideline snickering and high fiveing everyone.........

It's only happened once in four games so far, and really it should've been the same number of TDs as interceptions this game.
I don't think he stared down Cobbs either, so much as he threw it poorly.resnor likes this. -
Is Henne the guy who can beat bad teams/teams with mistake-prone qbs? Yes. But until he learns how to look off DBs & backers he is not the guy to lead a team to and most importantly be successful in the playoffs.

I dont think there is any question Henne is the guy. In 17 games he has shown more than enough to be our starting QB. Does he have some flaws...yeh...he does. And he probably will his entire career. But as he matures and gains experience alot of those flaws will become less and less apparent.
He had two bad INT's...they happen. Aaron Rogers has 8 TD's and 5 Ints. Would anyone question whether he is "it" or not.
The other thing to consider.....and I pose this question to anyone who questions Henne...
Do you realize the investment in a QB to become a franchise QB? Is anyone really ready to spend a high first or second round draft pick next season on a QB, and then wait as he develops over a year or two...and hopes he is better then Henne....
Or...are you willing to make a trade for a QB you think will have more than what Henne has.....and whats that trade gonna cost you? How bout a free agent QB.....anyone see any franchise QB's out there?
Henne has shown he will be our franchise QB for the rest of his contract...and most likely, for at least another contract after that.
NOW....should we draft another QB in the later rounds? Absolutley. I would like to see us take a kid who might need some time to develop...but has the arm, and is athletic in the pocket. I really dont know what Thigpens upside is....but it might be interesting to continue to develop him.

The 3rd pick was clearly on Marshall. He stopped his route when it looked, after he had already stuttered once, that he was continuing across the middle. Not Henne's fault.

To be fair, I don't think THIS thread is being an overly negative and knee jerk one.
He is bringing up a legitimate problem many of us have seen and now a player from an opposing team who picked Henne twice is saying the same thing.
Staring down receivers is not an issue that results from moving from one level of football to another. This is a basic skill for a QB that should already be instilled into Henne. It's a VERY legitimate problem and one that has cause many a QB to fail in the NFL.
For the bad there is also a lot of good in his game though too.
I've already stated in other posts that it's not time to give up on Henne and benching him is not what's best for this team long term or even short term IMO. Henne needs to grow and prove himself.
That being said I don't see any reason for lashing out at the thread starter.
He is bringing up legit information to discuss. -
Besides, we’re drafting a quarterback next year anyway. Both Pennington and Thigpen are free agents at the end of the season.Coral Reefer likes this. -
Especially the draft.
You don't stop looking at finding potential QB talent.
The postion is too damn important and it's so hard to find a top talent at the position.
We neglected the position for over 15 years never drafting a legit prospect and were still suffering from that lack of investment to this very day.Desides likes this. -
Mind you, I'm not saying that the Dolphins should give up on Henne by now. But if he doesn't show that he can consistently play on the level of the Jets game, then yes, you absolutely have to be ready to invest a 1st round selection on a QB.unluckyluciano likes this. -
Henne makes a lot of good plays but needs to learn that even 1-2 really bad plays can lose a game.
I'm sure that's what Pennington is telling him. -
I attribute 75% blame to special teams, 20% to defensive failures with the caveat that we have three starters and 1 major contributor missing, and 5% on offensive inefficiency in general.
Stitches likes this. -
And Henne shares a lot more of the blame than you attributed to him. If we are up 21:3 by halftime - as we should have been - then even the special teams performance from hell "only" makes this a one score game. And that's a problem: You absolutely cannot let a team like New England hang in the game when you dominate them for 30 minutes.
