I think the only reason Parcells moves on is if Parcells wants to move on.

If someone offers him another mega buck deal to bring a team back, he may listen.

From what I understand he does like Florida.

 

Do they disagree much? And how many ole Parcell players are still floating around in the league? I was thinking of starting a Parcell's thread regarding the fact that, in his mind, with the state of the franchise, and the flux the league will be in with the CBA...he couldn't possibly think his job is done, or justify jumping ship just yet. I think, Parcell's thinks, he HAS to come back. If as nothing but a pure admin.

 

I believe he has a hand in the process but how much of one I'm not really sure. I've read interviews where they said they'll all disagree with one thing or another day in or day out, but when it comes to drafting a prospect if they're *all* not on the same page they'll either try to get there or they realize that it's time to move on from that particular player.

PS, I remember reading in a Dolphin digest (I think it was Ireland interview) were he said they (Sparano, Ireland and Parcells) don't always agree on picks.

If anybody thinks Bill Parcells is going to leave after going 7-9 you are dead wrong. He will not leave till he thinks the job is done and 7-9 is not getting the job done.

Parcells is in a great position and honestly I would hate to lose his input. I remember when we were exploring the 2nd round tender for Miles Austin and Ireland didnt want to do it(can u blame him THEN) I wonder if they agreed on that decision.

 

I may be in the minority, but I think IRELAND has the player decisions already.

From what I have read, Parcells loves the player rah-rah/locker-room/work out room little visits and motivational things with who is on the roster...and loves college evaluation and player evaluation stuff....but decisions are Irelands I would think for final say (that doesn't mean he sees things differently than Bill however) - Bill may only live for WAR ROOM draft day stuff.

And game day, player decisions are all Sparano.

Again, maybe I am in the minority, but Parcells loves what he loves, but I do not get the impression that he is interfering with Jeff or Tony to do what he hired them to do.:hi5:

I don't think we'll see Parcells go anywhere this year. It's clear that his job isn't quite done yet. I think Sparano said it best today in saying we're mediocre, and that isnt accepted here. Sure, we've made alot of progress, but there is still quite a bit to be made as well. I think with Parcells' ego, he isnt going to want to leave, until he feels that the job is done. I dont think he thinks that yet. However, that is just my opinion?

Of all three of those guys I dont see how losing a mind that has built championship football teams would "increase" the odds of us getting the right player. Parcells specialty is talent evaluation, Ill take my chances with him.

 

I will say this, whomever has been the major deciding factor in personell the last 2 years should probably go ahead and move on.

They have it on.... Well.... Jake Long, Devon Bess, Henne and Hartline, Sean Smith (Maybe) and Vontae Davis...thats it.

Keep in mind, almost the entire team has been revamped with very few players left from behind...

These guys have screwed up almost as much as they've done well......if this off season isn't much better, I'm not gonna be a happy Dolfan.

While Jake Grove was not a pro bowl player, I think he played much better for us than Satale would have.

 

Yeah but even so......that was a huge contract for a guy that would shock the entire NFL if he were to ever play one full 16 game season. Especially when the draft was deep at Center.

I did read somewhere that Bill Parcells was the one who was totally high on Pat White and really wanted him, so that had to play a part in our worst draft pick this year.

 

I didnt know that. I always thought White didnt exactly fit the mold of a Parcells type player. As far as Parcells leaving, I dont see it happening this year. But,I got to admit I wont be shocked if he does.

 

Starks, Langford, Wake, Carpenter, Polite. A QB who was the MVP runner-up in 2008. Tranding JT for a second, then bringing him back for next to nothing. You can discredit all the OL guys individually, but collectively the unit in 2009 was much better than anything we have seen in a long time.

You can't expect any organization to hit on every player, its not going to happen. But overall, I think this front office compares favorably to the rest of the NFL.

See how illogical winning can make you? We sound like Patriot fans right now...

This very team was 1-15 just 2 seasons ago. We catch some breaks the very next year and go 11-5 and make the playoffs. Then the following year we have the hardest schedule in the NFL, lose our starting QB (and have to break in a brand new rookie QB), we lose our Pro Bowl Half Back and a very solid CB (leaving us with two rookie CBs) and we finish 7-9. Yes, missing the playoffs leaves a sour taste in my mouth, but people need to look at the big picture here, we are moving in the right direction.

 

And if we keep wasting picks and cap money that direction will be to being a team that just isn't good enough to contend....this FO and coach are an improvement but personally I'm gonna hold off on crowning them until they stop missing almost as much as they hit.

 

I think you have the wrong mind-set about this FO. Their main goal for these two years was to increase the talent level of the team, which they have done greatly. Now that we have done that they can start to identify certain holes or weaknesses that need to be addressed. Remember just a few years ago when we had the #1 overall draft pick? We literately were debating about who to draft on many, many positions (we could have Gone Matt Ryan, Chris Long, Dorsey, etc, etc); Our team had so many holes and needed talent all over the field so much so you could have made an arguement to draft almost any player. Now we have just a few needs going into this off-season (WR, LB, S, and possibly OL or TE).

 

That would be great if they hadn't misjudged so many players.......too many players.

For instance, your list includes Safety and OL......do you realize we currently have the most expensive OL and the most expensive Safeties in the league? You really think we can afford to upgrade those spots or that it's ok that we have to already?

They haven't been bad at what they do...........but just like Sparano's game day coaching, there's plenty of room for improvement. And our future depends on it.

 

The Pat White pick was 100% on Parcells. This was well documented after the draft. Parcells told many of his former associates that he believed Pat White was everything a football player should be. And told people (months before the draft) that he was going to take Pat White with the first pick in the 2nd round no matter who was on the board.

Jeff Ireland tried to fight it and didn't want White.

But Ireland is not perfect.. The Patrick Turner selection was all on Ireland. He said on WQAM after the draft that Turner was his pick, that he was the one pushing for Turner.. and that he picked him because he liked the fact that Turner had a long torso, with shorter legs. This helps big receivers move well in tight spaces and cut better ( so he said)

 

Bill Parcells hired Ireland and I highly doubt he hired anyone that he did not fully trust and respect. I doubt these guys argue about players. I mean no one knows but that just would not make sense to hire a guy thats not on the same page as you. Every coach is going to make bad draft picks and make bad signings. Its just apart of the NFL.


I really can't believe that ppl are actually bringing up that they want trifecta gone at all. You don't change an entire franchise in two seasons. You can quick fix it and win games but you can really tell that what our coaches and front office is doing is building a team that will win every year and for years to come.

Seems strange to read a lot of the comments here. IF we hadn't had a horrendous rash of injuries we wouldn't have been 7-9. The front office hasn't been perfect, every front office wiffs on a few draft picks, regrets not signing soandso, etc. To act as though we need major changes in our personnel staff is amazingly kneejerk and shortsighted. We are building a strong team here that will contend next year. Giving a front office 3 years to get rid of the driftwood and get their guys here is standard operating procedure...at least for good franchises. If we want to be the Lions and Browns we can get rid of front office personnel every year or two. I don't see the problem with our front office. The suggestion that Parcells is hurting the team is laughable and silly, I mean its unbelievable to even be reading some of this stuff. I know this was a frustrating year but if we have a rash of injuries next year and a hard schedule we'll be a 7 or 8 win team again more than likely.

 

Time to go? Its taken two years just to reset the pins again.

Two years for us just to get Parcells cued up with his version of mediocrity.
You know, the place before we fell into the cesspool of 1-15, has been our home for the last twenty five years?

Make no mistake, the Tuna isn't here to get us mediocre, actually, I don't really believe we ever left, a fringe mediocre in 07, just woefully undercoached, and chronically ill prepared.
This is when all eyes should BE on Parcell's, not Sparano, not Ireland, but the guy with the blueprints, the guy who at least knows the formula for playoff teams.

The pins are finally set, or to be more accurate, he's already thrown, now we need to see him pick up the spare.

I think he's more responsible for the talent on the field than some may think. And I'm really not in too much of a hurry to find out if he's not. :up:

 

I don't think anyone is saying that they want to see any of the FO gone or changed yet, but there is room for improvement.

The past 2 years, we've spent A LOT of money and draft picks on Defense and quite frankly, with the exception of 2007, the 2009 defense was the worst defense I've seen out of a Dolphins team since the early 90's. There is no denying that.

And regarding the QB position. This FO was very fortunate. Pennington fell into their laps because of Favre last year, and we were lucky that Henne lasted until #60 in the draft. Remember, we passed on Henne with our #2a pick and were lucky that he fell to us at #2b. Had they not been very lucky with Pennington and Henne we would've went into 2008 with Josh McCown starting QB. YES, JOSH MCCOWN! That was the original plan, which would have put us somewhere in the realm of 6 wins last year and 7 this year. Improvment? yes. But where else can you go from 1-15.

 

I hear ya brother, however to me, it just sounds bad, expecially after a 11-5 AFCE Title, which came after our lowest of lows with 1-15 season that caused BP to be brought in, and hired TS and JI and began a major FO and most importantly Roster overhaul.

In just 2 off-seasons, from FA, Trades, and Drafts he turned this franchise into one with balance and depth to the point that in a season with MAJOR injuries we still hung in every game, didn't get blown out, or quit, or give up, we were out played and our depth as cohesive and close as it was, was not top notch based on the reality that they weren't expected starters, and it showed in the end. Again, only 2 seasons removed from 1-15 and we ended 7-9 and 11-5 (18-14 overall). Have they hit on every FA or Draft pick, heck no, they arent claiming they did. Have they hit more than missed, yes, and they would be the first to tell you it ;)....but they are following a plan and they have this offseason to improve on their #'s to set it up so our team during the upcoming season improves on its.

Disappointed for sure......but this just smells of WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY and lacks of all perspective on what really has occurred it.

BP, TS, and JI are not the problem....the problem is on the field, and they are entering their 3rd offseason...just their 3rd....lets see it as part of their plan. Cause the best thing we should admit.....is they have one, they are following it.

After sleeping on it a day and reading from people with cooler heads, I agree with the majority.
We are only 2 seasons removed from 1-15, had a trecherous schedule and an incredible amount of really bad injuries.
I am very unhappy with a handful of picks, and off-season moves, HOWEVER, what they have done considering what they had to work with is actually very impressive.
It is mainly the really bad picks of the two Pat's this past year that spurned my earlier rant, when in all reality, the upside of the guys they have brought in, either via FA or the draft.
