he is going to have to work on his hands and his ability to get open with crisp routes and awareness.

 

There is a kick off return about two-three minutes in where you can literally see him kick into another gear with about 40 yards to go. His shiftiness lends itself to a lot of the routes you see in this video, too. Bubble screens, five yard outs, etc.

It seems like Gase will be sticking to the short passing game, but wanted to upgrade the "homerun" ability of the short area targets, Drake and Grant are both primarily short area targets, even Duarte is probably thought to fit in that range as well, as an H-back mismatch, who can get open quickly vs LBs.

 

The selection of these receivers tells me that Griff Whalen, Matt Hazel and maybe even Kenny Stills (one year left on his contract), are not safe.

That highlight reel is definitely fun to watch but do you think we will even have him play WR? People are comparing him to Sproles, I wonder if he's better off just switching to RB.

Maybe, but Sproles has 30 pounds on Grant right now. I'm not so sure Grant could run it between the tackles at 165 pounds. He is quite versatile, however, and once he gains some weight, I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved around the field.

The '08 Fins would love his potential in the Wildcat offense. :up:

This is absolutely true. But if he tucks his head when he runs, he may be able to fit in between their legs and avoid the hit, altogether.

 

He's not a scrawny 165 though. He's thick as hell for his size and speed. He'll be fine getting tackled.

He's basically just one blazing fast and angry quick twitch muscle.

 

Trinton Holliday has been tackled. He is still alive.

Kidding aside, the kid should be really fun to watch. I'm definitely liking the pick a lot more than I did at first.

 

I am excited about his potential as much as anybody, but I am concerned about his ability to hold on to the ball. In the pics I have seen the ball is as long as his forearm. That was college, aren't NFL balls even larger?

 

What I love about this pick is risk/reward, very little risk, potential high reward, a couple of late 6th round picks, and he could turn out to be the next Tavon, or Sproles, or even if he was just a returner, if he turns out to be a good returner, a la the Ice Cube Gerald McNiel(145lbs), gravy, and everybody knows, a plain old chicken dinner is transformed into a meal fit for a king with some good gravy.

I wish he was Latino, then we could just go ahead and call him Speedy Gonzales, cuz they are about the same size...

 

He's a player I had targeted in the draft, yes, while a man his size has never had legit contribution as a receiver, I also don't recall a man this size with this amount of talent, quickness and speed..tried on holiday was an excellent returner fro a little bit, but the receiver skills weren't there..

The concern for me is the hands, will they be good enough for him to be consistent enough.

He's always been a good KR, so there's that, he's got a career 27yd avg with 2 TDs, not too shabby.

Anyone that watched Trindon Holliday at LSU knew two things:

1. He has world class speed
2. He's not a natural offensive football player

Holliday caught 5 friggin passes in his last two years at LSU. That's it. They gave the ball to him on hand-offs because it wasn't necessary for him to be a football player on those plays. No routes to run, no leverage to read, balls to catch. Here's the ball now run with it. Thus he had 48 carries in his final two seasons.

Trindon Holliday was a good return man. And he was a good return man in the NFL too.

But comparing Jakeem Grant to Trindon Holliday purely on size/speed is like comparing Brandin Cooks to Marquise Goodwin.

 

i think its bull****...these open field stuff happens so fast, there is no time to look an opposing player in the eyes

 

I was thinking about his hands, I would think with small hands it would be really easy to strip the ball from him, if anyone can catch him.
