Two 2's seems like a fair return.

 

If you wanted good compensation for Landry you would have needed to trade him with something left on his rookie contract. I can't imagine another team giving him free agent money AND losing high draft picks. My guess is we get a 2nd, or a 3rd and a 5th. At this point I would be thrilled with a 2nd and feel like we dodged a bullet.

 

This is how I see it too. I can't see anyone giving us a 2nd and picking up a $15m per year contract as part of the package.

3rd plus a lower pick seems much more likely imho - I don't see it as a seller's market.

That's the issue. there isn't a deal. All you have is a player that is franchise tagged for 16 million for the 1 year. He has to agree to any deal with the team making the trade. This situation gives Landry all of the power. He will essentially make what he was expecting to make in Free agency via another team, or he plays for 16 million this year as a Dolphin. doesn't really make a difference to him that a draft pick was sent to the Dolphins, that's not going to weigh into his decision on how much he holds out for.

 

The Dolphins are not in a good bargaining position in regards to trying to trade Landry. Because he can basically pick the teams the Dolphins trade him to.

No team is going to trade for him unless he agrees on a new contract before the trade is made. This will limit the teams the Dolphins can actually deal Landry to. They will either end up paying him $16
Million for the 2018 season or trade him to a team he wants to play for.

I think the best the Dolphins will get for Landry is one second round pick. Yet because of the situation they are now in after failing to sign him to a long term contract a year ago, I will not be surprised if they end up getting only a third or even a fourth round pick for him

 

Extremely bitter and salty, and unprofessional from the Dolphins organization if this happens. They were the idiots who decided not to trade him at the trade deadline/before the year or get a more favorable contract done awhile back. Dolphins are the fools here, not Jarvis. No reason for fans to be hoping Jarvis gets screwed here, let the man get paid, He’s earned it more than most.

 

If you get a third or less in trade, why bother? A comp pick in 2019 will happen if you just let him walk.

Landry and a fifth rounder should get Miami a second rounder. Plus clear a lot of cap space.

I will hold out hope only a team like the Browns will offer that $16 Mil per year.

 

Is it true that in contract negotiations the dolphins and his agent are only 1.5 million apart ? I would be pissed if this long term deal was not done because of a simple 1.5 million difference in price.

 

If you can get a 3rd in a trade, it's going to be a higher pick than the low 3rd you'd get as compensation at the end of that round. We don't have a lot of leverage if Landry wants to play hard-ball unfortunately.

No 5th Round pick either to trade-away (we gave it to New Orleans for Anthony).

 

I would have to hold out for something better than a 3rd and a 5th. Welker fetched us a 2nd and 7th and while at the time it seemed sufficient, I think most of us regret that trade today. I don’t want to feel the same about Landry (although it almost seems inevitable at this point).

Worst case scenario, if we don’t get a good offer prior to the draft we wait till training camp or prior to trade deadline next season and see if another team gets desperate (possibly due to a critical injury to their WR unit) and gives us better compensation for 2019 draft to keep their season hopes alive. Yes, this comes with a big risk for the Dolphins, but I am sick of giving away talent for crap (i.e. Ajayi trade).

 

A few things I read today from various news sites-

1) Landry does not technically have the franchise tag until he signs the offer. And until he does, he cannot talk to other teams, attend Miami practices, etc. However, we cannot trade Landry until he signs either...so everything is 100% in limbo at the moment.

2) Once Landry signs the offer from Miami, he can shop around elsewhere and try to negotiate a new deal. Miami can drop the tag at anytime and let him walk, but it's really going to take all three sides to make a deal happen. Miami is shopping Landry (as much as they can for a guy they can't shop) and they're asking for a low 3rd or high 2nd for him...or possibly another player.

3) Early destinations being mentioned at moment are the Saints, the Panthers, the 49ers, the Bills and possibly Indy. Baltimore players have said they want Landry but nothing like that has leaked from the coaches/admin so far.

4) Even if Miami does find a trade partner, Landry can still sign that tender and stay locked in Miami. That would mean we'd have to cut him and the math gets even more complicated. But if Landry doesn't sign, then being cut is his only path to playing somewhere other than Miami in 2018.

5) Sum it all up, and everyone is basically stuck here. Teams could make an offer, see if Miami matches it and then give up 2 first round picks if Landry leaves Miami....which means that no official offers are likely to come (unless someone sees building their entire franchise around Landry). But would we even try to match the offer since Landry ultimately wants to stay in Miami? Why would we pay more than what we could have offered two weeks ago? That's yet another wrinkle in this no-win scenario.

So despite what everyone is saying, I think Landry is a Miami Dolphin in 2018.

I think trading him to a division rival like Buffalo would be a mistake unless they overpay - I'd rather he walk and get signed to an overpay contract and get a comp pick. Same with the Ravens. An NFC team or a lower tier AFC team makes a lot of sense.

I feel like if we don't get a trade worked out soon, we rescind the franchise tag and let him walk.

 

just seen, that the packers are in line for Jarvis for randall cobb, the asking price is a 3rd rounder or late 2nd.

 

Miami will sign and trade him, I think we need to shed cap space by next year to avoid penalties but I could be wrong.

 

Hard to believe they will pony up the money after paying Adams and Nelson. They are heavily invested in WR already while badly needing defensive aid, a tight end and possibly a RB.
