Yeah, I just saw that.
-
At his age and with the 8 game suspension looming, this could have something to do with his decision.....
Is Paul ready to step up?
What kinda' $$$ are we saving and have we been on the look out all along for a replacement? Are we really set at the position and who "could" be his fill in for this year.We aren't exactly loaded at the NT spot!
Just a few questions to ponder.... -
-
-
Doesn't really matter. We knew he was out for 8 games. 8 games is significant. The season would be over (one way or the other) by the time he came in. If we lost too many games during his absence, we'd be out. If we win some or most of the games will he's out, then he doesn't matter to our team.
If he'd been out for 2 or 4 games I'd be more worried, but as it stood, he had no real chance to affect our season much.Moves, felly smarts, DolfanJake and 4 others like this. -

They resigned him even though he had been suspended for 8 games. The very least he could do is give the Dolphins sufficient notice he was retiring. -
Roster spot now open.
I'll mis Big Ferg, I'm kinda surprised he hung'em up as he just opened a Twitter account.
Anyone seeing shades of Truck in 07 in all of this? -

I'm sure Ferg didn't just drop a bomb on Parcells. I'm going out on a limb (not at all, really) and assume that Ferg informed the Phins that he was considering retirement, and they knew where he was leaning.
You don't get to be a 'Parcells Guy' if you're full of s***, and Ferg was definitely a 'Parcells Guy'.mikenc28115 and steveincolorado like this. -
I just learned of this from the sunsentinel, if you wanna read their little write up on it, here it is.

Ouch, now we better really hope Starks and soliai step it up. We're gonna need them bigtime.
-
Worse things could happen...At his age, I don't blame him.
-
Dan Williams wouldn't have magically dropped to 28 if Ferguson had retired. Arizona still would have selected him. (Thankfully.) Odrick still would have been the pick. Now, maybe we draft a guy like Cam Thomas, but the coaching staff apparently has faith in Soliai and Ryan Baker has been making a strong case for a roster spot, so the cupboard isn't bare at NT., dolfan7171, Disnardo and 1 other person like this. -
This is a blow to the line, but we were going to be without him half the season anyway. Anyone think he can coach?
Thanks Jason for a couple of good years! -
-
He was a solid player for us, we should respect his decision and wish him well. He does not owe us an explanation for his personal decisions.
Thanks Fergy for your play and leadership on this team, we will miss you.RJones13LAL, Larry Little, dolfan7171 and 3 others like this. -
Our interest in those guys doesn't change if Ferguson announces his retirement sooner. They wanted more money than we were willing to pay. -
Just to play devil's advocate, Mount Cody was available in the 2nd round and Cam Thomas was available in the 5th (the freakin' fifth). They very well might have taken Thomas over Nolan Carroll had they known.

I saw this coming a long time ago, honestly, we were gunna have to move on without him anyways with the 8 game suspension.
-
As for Cam Thomas, I wanted to draft him, but I think it's pretty telling that a 4-3 team in the Giants waited until the 5th round to take him. Just as it's sort of telling that a team that plays a lot of 4-3 like the Cardinals selected Dan Williams. We're not talking about passing on the next Vince Wilfork in favor of having Ferguson for 8 games, guys. -
BTW-It also looks like he has a good chance at starting.

^ This. Bottom line had they known they may have done some things differently.
I highly doubt that Jason Fergunson was even an afterthought in the draft plans.
You do not count on a 34 year 14 year veteran who is coming off of an 8 game suspension.

Did they? I thought it was the Giants who took Cam Thomas. A shame, then. The irony here is that the Chargers let Jamal Williams walk, and I wanted to bring him in to play NT. Unfortunately, the money wasn't right.
More to the point, I fail to see how this is an indictment of Jason Ferguson's retirement timing. The roster looks the same if he announces his decision in January.
I'm not really too shocked by this to tell you the truth. I was hoping to get a little something out of him though.
If this is anything like the end of Traylor's career it won't hurt too bad. It got to the point where that guy could barely move in there.
son-of-a-b####. oh well, I still think we'lll be okay. I was really looking forward to a fresh Fergy for our playoff run
So what was the point of OTAs and the bike rides with Marshall and Crowder?
I wish Ferguson the best in his post-football life. He was a hell of a player and it was awesome to see him play for us for a short period.
Well, we know what we have in Starks, a damn good defensive lineman. Now it's time for Soliai to step up.
Lionel Dotson, Ryan Baker, Alama-Francis, and Travis Ivey day just got a little better
