A lot of us have been puzzled by the tradedown - tradeup in round 3 .Well here is his explanation.
There is more.
Although there was a paucity of picks on the offensive side I thought it was an interesting and good draft .

I didnt see any desperation in Irelands picks .Many of our picks are not immediate starters but they have great upside for the future .Thats not the reaction you would expect from a GM who is worried about his future .

The only issue I had with the draft is not getting Shamarko Thomas when you've got Jones about to cost a heck of a lot of money and Clemons on a one year deal. Other than that I don't think Ireland made any questionable or strange decisions.

I think Dion is gonna be a star, and when you gotta chance to get a ground breaking player with no flags and unlimited athletic potential, and a chance to get him a at a good price, then you go for it know what I'm sayin..respect the move.. I think Jamar is an upgrade over Sean, who has a ceiling of speed and tackling precision, I think Dallas Thomas is gonna be a solid pro, and I think mike Gillessie will be an excellent back up/sometimes starter running back, if those things happen it will be a very good draft..if Davis, Jenkins, and sturgis can make the team it will be a very very good draft.

Oh well. The draft is cool. But all that matters is Tannehill's play.bakedmatt likes this. -

Got a little too comfortable sounds like.
As much as it pains me to say, I really like the Gilly and Jenkins picks. I think both will be solid along with Taylor and Jordan. I think it was a very good draft overall for us.
Its absolutely nuts that I might be cheering for a Cane and a Gate in the backfield these next few years. -
I'll tell you what sucks, we have an exciting young fast defense, this fanbase has no clue what to do with a defense like that..they will always be at a disadvantage and I'll tell you why, if I'm the opponent and I win the toss, I'm putting us on defense first..why?, because I know their crowd doesn't arrive til mid first so I know exactly how much time I have where I can make some adjustments at the line without disruption from the crowd, I also know because there isn't energy in the building for the home team, there's a better chance of them coming out flat..I attack their defense..
That's never gonna change until they build a new stadium with an angle of intimidation in the blueprint, the marketing, and the culture..a true 12 man movement that can affect football games..I'll even give ya a slogan..

Should've settled. Will Davis is an atrocious football player. He can be very good in coverage and his hands are solid. But he avoids contact whenever possible. If you have an IPad DO NOT go look at this guy on YouTube. You'll want to throw the IPad. A gang tackle happens right in front of him and his body language screams, " Nah. Don't wanna get dirty on this one. You guys got it." You see it happen once, okay. Twice- well he's a DB. What do you expect? On 3, 4, 5 and 6 you want to throw the ****ing IPad.
Average cover skills. Above average hands. Throw the ****ing Ipad everything else. -

Since we don't know what is going to happen w/ out OT's I hope we have a back that can recognize and pick up a blitz as well as effectively chip on the way out of the backfield if needed.
-
I think Jamar Taylor is going to be a stud. Guy has all the measurables plus he plays with a mean streak and has a HUGE chip on his shoulder. He could have warranted a late first round pick.

For some reason when the Falcons trade a billion picks to get Julio Jones, or when the Redskins trade the next eight drafts for RG3 the media glorifies them for being savvy and going after the guy they want at all costs. But when Ireland trades a second rounder to move up and draft a monster pass rusher, they slam him as desperate. This I will never understand.

Atlanta was already a winner. Washington traded up for RG3, a once in a generation type player if he stays healthy. We went for a pass rusher. Completely different. One DE doesn't change 16 games. A QB does. If Dion pans out, we'll be lauded. If he doesn't, we won't. Simple.
