Our FO shouldnt even think this over. If They were somehow intelligent they would pick him Up immediately when Free Agency Starts

I watched Shockey when he was here in NY and two things stand out that I remember. A ton of drops and a TERRIBLE attitude. A lot of Giants fan friends of mine couldnt wait to get rid of him.CashInFist likes this. -

Jeremy Shockey Would be A Great Addition to our team and will give Henne or whatever QB we have another reliable weapon.DolfanJake and finsbuck719 like this. -
Should see who else becomes available. Would like a younger TE, and I'm not really a Shockey fan, but if it's all we can get then they better at least try. Could be a while though before any moves can be made.

Sure he's on the downside of his career, but he'd still be a big improvement over all of our TE's combined I'd think. Him and Fasano there would be nice to have, even if its just for the short term, while we draft ourselves our own, or find someone younger later down the line. The nice thing about bringing Shockey in would be not having to use a pick on TE this year, and address the OL, and RB positions, and potentially QB as well. Im not saying its the greatest idea ever, but it at least deserves some thought and it makes some sense IMO.and dolfndav34 like this. -
we need veteran play and we need another good body at TE. Sign him up. He also buys us a little time for having to address the TE position.
Side note: If it means not getting Marcedes Lewis, Owen Daniels, or Zach Miller, then I'd pass on him.DHPVW, , texanphinatic and 1 other person like this. -

Secondly, there's really no reason to jump on Shockey when as ToddsPhins noted... There's better and younger options due to be free agents this offseason(Leaving out Kevin Boss to boot), and all of those options besides Owen Daniels are much better blockers than Shockey. -
I will guarantee you that Shockey would not start for this team. He he doesn't block well enough and he can't stay healthy.
The reason you'd consider Shockey here would be as a #2 TE. While we don't yet know exactly what Brian Daboll's (or perhaps Tony Sparano's) offense will look like, I would not at all be surprised to see a return of our beloved 2-TE sets that worked so well in '08 when David Martin was complimenting Fasano. Martin became a better blocker that year IMO. But it was his ability to hit the seam and punish the deep middle of the field that opened things up for this offense. And he was a tough SOB, routinely getting up from the big hits.
Martin going down prior to the '09 season was a massive blow. Two seasons later, we still have not recovered.
Fasano isn't going anywhere. He isn't an elite player, but he is a nice, complete player. Our struggles on the OL have forced us to frequently keep him in as a blocker, which he is pretty good at. I would consider Shockey if some of the better options don't become options. I think he's got some fleas that some teams (like us) probably don't want to mess with. Brandon Marshall is probably enough for Sparano.Ludacris likes this. -

He's at least worth a little consideration. He's slipped the past few years, but he'll only be 31 by the time the season starts. A motivated Shockey might be a nice addition, but they would still be wise to explore what TE's might actually stand a good chance of hitting the market.

Not at this point of his career

I can see him as a target, but if any of the trio of Owen Daniels, Zach Miller or Marcedes Lewis hits the market they should be the priority. I don't really see a need to fall over ourselves trying to get Shockey.
-
I feel much of the "we don't want him" attitude is because he's a former 'Cane. If he was a former Gator or Buckeye, I'm sure certain people would be all over him for his "veteran presence on our young team".
-
I would love to sign Shockey. I met him when he was at "The U" and he is a cocky, emotional SOB, just what we need. He loves Miami, and may be re-born. He and Fasano, in a 2 TE set, would be as good or better than any TE duo in the NFL. JMO

The price should be right for a piece we need , so I would not summarily dismiss Shockey or not explore the price to sign him. Not like our second TE did a lot last season. -

if i made a list of the biggest bi***es and worst influences to a team in all of football shockey would make the top 5 next to t.o and randy moss

2. what does his team spreading the football and playing well have to do with his attitude and bad influence
3. go ahead and take at look back at why the giants traded him (he was stubborn to become a better player, was no longer performing, and didnt get along with the team)
4. if any relationship between his attitude and the saints playing well to win the super bowl exist (which there isnt, hence moss playing for sb teams, t.o. making a superbowl appearance) then it is because he realized how fu***d up he was in NY and cleaned his act up after being traded.
5. He bi***ed in NY about eli not throwing him the ball and when he left eli played great.. we dont need any more of his attitude when we already have marshall and crowder who talk plenty
