Wow, this guy is so ignorant it's beyond belief. Let's take it piece by piece to show just how stupid he really is:
We’ve believed that the Jets’ entire approach to the 2008 offseason was driven by desperation. Caught between the Pats in their own division and the Giants in their own city, the Jets spent like drunken pilots in an effort to improve the team.
We?? Who's we?? Any common sense Jets fan can see from a mile away that the desperation has nothing to do with the Pats and Giants, but rather the impending PSL's they need to convince us to buy.
They apparently though they were taking a page from the Pats’ 2007 offseason, during which the system of building through the draft was supplemented by the pursuit of veterans like Adalius Thomas and Wes Welker and Randy Moss and Donte’ Stallworth.
Still, the Patriots were far more methodical a year ago; the Jets essentially busted open the owner’s safe and started handing out rolls of cash once the clock struck 12 on the first day of free agency.
Adalius Thomas was last year's Calvin Pace. He was the best FA LB available in a very weak FA LB class. Hell, Thomas was the 3rd best LB on his former team. They also noted they had a glaring deficiency at WR and filled it with WR's. We had glaring holes on OL and DL and filled it with the best available players. Did we overpay?? Maybe. But make no mistake the Pats overpaid AT THE TIME for Thomas, and severely so for Welker (a 2nd round pick for him). By next year if these players play as well as we hope it will hardly be overpaying.
Harvey Araton of the New York Times also perceives desperation — and he thinks that the recent reports linking quarterback Brett Favre to the Jets is further proof of it.
“[A]long with the Jets’ receiving permission from the Packers to speak with Favre,” Araton writes, “comes the smell of desperation from their newly opened training camp, an S O S, the abbreviation for Save Our Season.”
How is talking to another team about the availability of a HOF QB desperation when your veteran QB has the weakest arm in the league (possibly the history of NFL football), and your backup has only started 9 games. I call it due dilligence. They would be idiots to not at least inquire the availability and price. And who the frack is Harvey Araton??
“You wonder how Mangini and Tannenbaum are viewed around the [NFL] after setting off the saga known as Spygate last season, outing Belichick for his secret taping practices in violation of league rules. Did they score for delivering Belichick his comeuppance, or are they scorned for breaking an honor code?
“Mangini, in particular, would seem to be at risk of being cast as a hypocrite and an ingrate, given that he raised his coaching profile in the system he subsequently turned against and brought dishonor.”
Ouch.
But Aranton is right. More than a few league insiders have speculated that Mangini’s current NFL job will be his last one, and that to continue coaching after his tenure with the Jets ends, he’ll have to take a job in the college ranks.Whether the stink of Mangini’s antics attaches to Tannenbaum remains to be seen. If it does, Tannenbaum’s only option might be to become an agent.
Ahh, again with the ignorant stupidity and this Anranton idiot. First of all, given the huge influx of FA's that this momo just criticized us for signing a few paragraphs back had no issues with it, I don't think it's a big deal. Second of all, it has been repeatedly reported as fact that Mangini had nothing to do with Belly being caught. Jets security had been trying to catch Matt Walsh for years during the Herm era. It was the same staff who eventually caught him with Mangini at the helm. Do you think there is an unwritten code where other teams say "Sure Bellidick, go ahead and tape my signals. No problm at all, we love ya man!!". If Mangini wins games and compiles a solid resume on the field, he will get a job in the NFL wherever he wants. Same goes for Tannenbaum.
And anyway, did you realize this guy's entire story was one quoting some dipsh&t Harvey wallbanger Aranton?? Has journalism gotten so pathetic that they now write columns about each other's columns??
