I heard about this story on the way to work this morning.
I though they had said that the bride was found to have won her case. I couldn't believe it!
I am looking for an article from today about it, I figured someone from florida would have posted this already, because it is simply ridiculous IMO. :pity:

She was awarded $150,000!!
So now I should have gotten a pre-nup for my engagement, just in case? This is so stupid. Anyone who has ever had a wedding called off can sue now.

OMFG!
wow that sets a very bad precedent, man..........I wonder if the case was flip flopped and the woman walked out on the man if the judge would see it the same way. I highly doubt it.
Well, at least I'm married already, so I don't have to worry about that. -
how long before marriages stop all together. seriously, our country seems to be making it so unattractive right now. why take a chance of losing money and possesions when there is hardly any benefit to doing it. The only reason to get married anymore is for religious purposes, and most people nowadays aren't that religious.

It would be just like women who are sexual predators, they would get off for significantly less. -

And sorry if this should go in a different forum.

Hell man money just gets handed out to folks these days

She won? now thats the dumbest got damn thing I have ever heard. She quit her job of her own valition.. Caused her mental and emotional stress... if i sued every girl that caused me emotional stress id be a freakin millionaire... Remind me never to walk in the municipality that this court is in, i dont want to be sued for not saying good morning, or thank you to someone -

Damn my coffee's hot!!! WTF?!?!?!?!
-
that is so effin ridiculous. combined with all the personal issues i've gone through and currently am going through STILL regarding my divorce, i'm so sour on the concept of marriage its not even funny.
if it was in my nature to spill my story on an internet forum, i would (to vent), but i'm not going to.

She should have acted like a woman, walked away and kept her mouth shut. She's either money hungry or out for revenge. Guess she'd rather marry some one who didn't love her than to be embarrassed.. She's the dope here, at least the guy was honest about wanting out.

It's actually a very old law that's been on the law books since the middle ages.
At the end of the day the lady lost a lot of money because of this guy, and his representations to her. The jury on hearing the evidence (not just reading two paragraphs of background) decided that he was acting in bad faith, the standard basically is that she has to prove that he never intended to go through with the marriage when he proposed.
In a nutshell the jury decided that
(1) He never intended to marry her in the first place
(2) She was out of pocket by $150,000 because she gave up her job etc. -
-
this is just one of those life decisions one makes - to give up stuff and make sacrifices. you can't sue over that, just learn from your experiences.
the fact that the jury awarded her money tells me those people are ******ed.Colorado Dolfan, HardKoreXXX and Stitches like this. -

I will tell you that many states have passed laws doing away with a cause of action for breach of a marriage promise. SO check your local statutes. As an aside, I recently represented a man in a lawsuit to recover an engagement ring he gave his fiancee. She broke off the engagement. We won, so it is not always the ladies who win.
