He's gettin a rep for being cool in interviews..announcers always say something complimentary after he hangs up, like they were suprised that he was so smart witty and funny..sound corny but it's true...
I know he's got a hell of a coaching job he has to do this year..youngest team in the league, young Qb, lot of new players.big challenge. -

My impressions:
The HOF game announcement was big. I like having an extra preseason game when you have a young team and lots of roster turnover.
Wallace:
Philbin seemed to acknowledge that many saw Wallace as a one trick pony, but personally believed Wallace could do more. He also said filled a need. My guess is that he meant the need to attack the deep portion of the field (spacing) and possibly the ability to get quick separation.
Long:
He seemed to start to say that Long was "great" for us and then toned it down to "did good things for us". That's just my guess, but my impression was that he didn't think Long was all that great of a LT for us.
Bush:
It seemed that he just felt the younger RBs were ready.ssmiami likes this. -
Philbin also said Te is the 2nd hardest position to learn after Qb, this is why I really wanted to add Dustin Keller or some younger, productive, proven Te over drafting one highly and taken our lumps in the learning curve.
We really don't have the talent to make up for those mistakes early in the year. -
yeah he seemed conscious of the adjective to use on Long, used very good instead of the usual "he did a great job for us"
Shoot, Philbin watched jake for one year, and last year he sucked, mentally he had already checked out so I'm sure the impression he got wasn't very good. -
Either that is a smoke screen for Eifert, or he really believes that. I am of the opinion he believes that and Eifert just got eliminated as a first round possibility. Just my opinion.

The knocks on Wallace. He scores 8 Tds in a wide open offense, he scores 8 TDs in a dink and dunk offense.
There was one game, a whole game, where Ben's passes traveled an average of less than 5 yards. That's 30 passes, over a whole game, where the ball traveled less than 5 yards.Sceeto likes this. -
He was merely stating the obvious, Te has to learn blocking assignments, the routes and read adjustments, it is not easy to learn that stuff for a rookie.

His breakdown on Tannehill was simply fundamental and detailed. Loved it.
I also loved that they broke down every play Mike Wallace ran the past two seasons (I think this came out in another interview). That's doing your homework on a guy. Sounded like they did the same with Ellerbe & Wheeler.
They may not have come out with an orthodox plan but I think they have done their due diligence.
Hopefully that will translate to seeing Tavon Austin as the guy! (But, they may think otherwise come draft day).Fin D likes this. -
He also mentioned that it was necessary to bring in a veteran for that reason. I am not saying it completely takes a guy like Eifert out of the equation, but I would now be more surprised if Eifert were considered in the first if he ever was. I like the Dolphins to still draft a tight end relatively high.

Yessir, this is one of the reasons why I was so pissed when we missed on Cook and it looked like we had missed on Dustin Keller, I had enough of Fasano's 1 yd routes but good blocking.
Eifert strikes me as the type of player who goes mid to late rd #1 or at a high #2 -
If Miller reaches his ceiling and becomes the back some thing he can be i can see an improved team, but if his inner tempo doesn't speed up, or his shoulder can't take the beating, a young Qb without a run game stares us directly in the face.DPlus47 likes this.

what he said should have no impact on who you draft..if you think Eifert will project to be the most dangerous weapon you can add to your offense, then you select him, part of Eifert being a great player is how smart he is on a football field.

I'm hopeful for him and that his brain will catch up with his feet, and for him to stay durable...there is part of me that thinks when things slow down for him he's got some real good ability..I just worry about shoulders for backs.Aqua4Ever04 likes this.

It sounds to me that philbin and sherman, mainly philbin, have a lot to do with personnel. If philbin told jeff that jennings was better for us, I think that's who we would have. Which means philbin is doing some work in the film room for the draft.
