I defended Joey Porter all week and when it mattered he defended himself by playing lights out all game. Props to Joey and if he decides to talk about the Chargers next week I will defend him again.
-
I really do hope this is a sign of things to come from him. He showed up nicely in this game and it was great to see. If he can lead this defense this season can turn out pretty good.
-
No offense, but I'm curious what the guarantee/win ratio actually is.
With all of the yapping that he does, he was bound to get a hit sooner or later.texasPHINSfan, azfinfanmang and Fin Fan In Cali like this. -
I would prefer he played like he played without the talking, i think he did it for the right reasons, i think he did it to get us out of a bad rhythm, he took resposibility for the team and a huge risk...he delivered and is now the unquestioned leader...exactly what he wanted and exactly the position he prides himself in being in. He needs tp be the leader to play his game at the highest level.
Now i wish he can do it without talkin before the game.texasPHINSfan, azfinfanmang and Fin Fan In Cali like this. -
That's all fine with me. You know how TV shows some players laughing and giggling or joking around when their team is losing? Can you imagine Joey doing that? Id' think hed want to kick his dogs if he's losing (not literally, figuratively!)unluckyluciano and MonstBlitz like this. -
Just saw his post game with wendy nix......damn it joey...he had a chance to be humble and did'nt.....he said 'I was just stating the facts, he is'nt tom brady and today he came out and proved it'
You guys may not think much but it rubbed me the wrong way...he could of praised the defense, stupid...karma is a mother fuc@#r -

Have you ever read the book "The boy who cried Wolf"?
Might want to check it out, lots of life's lessons in there  -

When we signed Joey I was pumped that we would finally have an emotional leader, someone to give the team a boost in the locker room and out on the field. But he's made these predictions before and has made disparaging comments about other players (Winslow) and that isn't what a leader does IMO, that's what loudmouth does.
As a leader, I expect a player to hold himself to a certain standard and stay away from personal insults. IMO Joey is just a yapper, he's a blind squirrel who finally found a nut. :wink2:texasPHINSfan and njfinfan like this. -
I agree with Randy Moss when he said "Joey was just being Joey." Kinda like Manny being Manny. I got a kick when I just heard the announcers of the game say "If Joey Porter got paid by the word, he'd be a very wealthy man." Funny stuff.

If I were Porter, I'd be pissed at the media... and I'd defend myself. That's the way I see it, anyhow. -
-
That stuff doesn't bother me. Celebrations in the EZ don't either. His predictions isn't reckless or absurd. He's not sending a bottle of tums to the other locker room. he's putting it out there for his teammates.
I still really don't get this uproar. His talking at this point should be a sidenote. he's been talking forever. It should be a one post thread really, not even a thread, more like a footnote to another thread that says, "oh btw. Joey talked yet again today"
He's disparaged players before, not sure why you didn't expect that when he got here. He is what he is, and he isn't going to change. I can't hate him for being passionate. At the end of the day, all we can really hope from each player is that they give it their all, and I have no doubt Joey would give anything but that.
But that's me. Different strokes brudda, different strokes! :knucks:like2god likes this. -
....A Miami Dolphins win each week. :hi5:jdang307 likes this. -
Aha maybe that's why. He's been doing this for years. I just laugh at those things more than get mad. about the only thing that got to me was maybe Welker mouthing off about wishing he was on the other side while playing for us. Stuff that disprespects your teammates, that's what gets me worked up. Other than that, meh, 53 players on the team you're going to get many different personalities. :D
-
but he only did it this time. this is the first time he's produced after yapping all week while a member of the dolphins. as others have said, i wish he'd produce without mouthing to the media all the time. plenty of people play GOOD football without being loud about it.
as L2G said, even a blind squirrel finds a nut! i'm VERY happy that Porter had such a great game, but he's been loud for a long time, this is the first time i've seen him produce for us, really.
I hope to see more of this production from him, less of the yapping. -
Thanks to beemerdaddy for this.
Miami Dolphins 2008 Salary Cap Version 1.0
Porter Joey $4,800,000 $2,400,000 $7,600,000 $14,800,000
Yes he had a good game but how much is it going to cost us per sack this year for Joey?azfinfanmang likes this. -
Is that this year and the last 3? Seems like he's going to be cut after next year for sure, or at least the year after.

i'm predicting he gets cut after this year. no team will be willing to pay that amount for his 2009 salary, so a trade would be out. and i *doubt* he'll take a pay cut.
enjoy your year with porter, this will probably be his last here.azfinfanmang, like2god and Fin Fan In Cali like this. -
Did anyone besides me think that Joey Porter getting flagged for un-necessary roughness on Cassell was total joke? Are they going to start putting dresses on the QB's. Joey didn't hit him late....he wrapped Cassell up and took him to the ground. Nothing dirty about it. :pity:
-
1) it wasn't Porter, it was Holliday.
2) it was completely illegal. driving a player (regardless of position) into the ground is against the rules. the fact that they called it "roughing the passer" as opposed to "unnecessary roughness" is immaterial, both penalties have the same outcome. -
Sorry I thought it was Porter. I guess not being able to get the audio affected my eyes as well. It looked clean to me, and if you get flagged for something like that there is something seriously wrong. I am sure Dick Butkus never got flagged for doing the exact same thing. -
no harm no foul, we still won the game. but it is against the rules. this also goes along with the presser the NFL just released last week about unnecessary roughness & violence.... in a new effort to reduce injuries and violence they are calling plays that are unnecessarily rough. makes sense.
that particular tackle could have broken cassel's back. -
Ok bad example..........Colorado Dolfan likes this. -
I still didn't like the fact that he was "predicting" again. He wasn't right the first two times and definitely didn't have the walk to match the talk. There has been a large improvement with the offense this year hands down, but I still don't like the show-off talk. Just walk the walk man.

For the record, Ronnie seems to be in the same mold to some extent. His only celebration seems to be just short of the goal-line when he EXPLODES all over whichever Defensive back is in his way  -
We have other players like Walter. The team is full of Paytons (class wise ;)). Non dolphins fans say Mercury Morris talks too much. Oh well! :lol:Fin Fan In Cali likes this.
