Quite a reasonable assessment if you ask me.

I'm torn between a B and an A. On one hand, like ascii said, we did shy away from some of the names that could up out in a few of the rounds. But then again, our LB corps has been starved for so long, it's not even funny.

In all honesty I think its almost pointless to issue grades the day after the draft. At least the middle ones.
In some drafts there is a team that is able to trade down and or otherwise end up with a lot of picks while having highly rated players fall into their laps were the day after you look back and go "Wow, they added a lot of talent". And then of course there are teams who have drafts that just make no sense at all where they reached a lot and took questionable talent where the day after you could suspect they had a very bad draft, but everything in between is almost pointless to try and grade. -
To early to be assigning overall grades no? I will say I think Miami with this draft brought in some players to compete to upgrade those positions..
He put NE at a B+, I dont think they had a B+ grade......they draft 2 TE's and a punter, when they need many pash rushers.... -
It's amazing how varied the draft grades actually are. "Expert" such as Mel Kiper make my teeth ache. How can we accurately rate a draft before these players have even stepped on the field against NFL talent. The speed and complexity of the game, as well as outside influences will all play factors in their development and sucess. It would seem that we filled some of our major holes, but never can be sure until the season begins.

Many of the people who says it makes no sense to rate a draft now is just trying to seem wise. Everyone rated the Raiders's draft last year and was pretty much right that it sucked. It's not about rating if these picks will pan out. Rating a draft is rating how much of their board a team was able to draft and how many needs they filled regardless of whether they pan out. Regarding our draft, there is no denying we got who we wanted. Whether or not that's a good thing is debatable but based on our plan we can be graded high. Now, in three years then we can make a judgement on did we have the right plan. But for now, no one's asking you to rate the impact of the players, only if we met needs and got who we wanted.
ascii likes this. -
The actual grades this point are useless. I do like to see if hey address the fact
that a team drafted to fill needs and not just big names. This guy looks like he at least took the time to see whether we filled holes or not. -
Take Kiper for instance. He throws a turd in the air and hopes it doesn't land on his head. His grade is useless.
I do agree that the grade should be move about how the team handled the draft as far as drafting to fill holes and by need. Some people give grades by the number of big players that are drafted. NEWS FLASH! Drafting big name players does not always mean a good draft. -
I was just suprised it took BP so long to adress the LB'er position with severe authority since his arrival. This offseason he has done exactly that.
I actually wouldn't be suprised if he thought our previous ailments were a direct result of not getting the play from the LB'ers that he expects.
He solved that problem beautifully this offseason. Our front 7 is nasty now. It's gonna be a long day playing against our D on sundays. I was thrilled with this draft. We got the players we wanted and who fit how we operate. -
You know what, I could care less about the grades people give.
The FO decided to pick players they saw in person and got to coach, over players that the media has hyped and blown up. Good for them. They trusted their own eyes, their own scouts, and didn't buy into the hype machines. I hope to god it works out, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. The Aqua Crush and DaFish like this. -
The question is, which combination would you want? Marshall and Brandon Graham, or, Marshall, Odrick and Koa.
Iam just now getting over the depression that iam not gonna see B Graham play for us, but, the combination of Odrick and Koa is the right play.. -
I agree it is pointless to be issuing grades at this point. Bottom line is we got some damn good football players.

Interesting how he states this after the draft... I am pretty sure next year thing will be quite different. -
Let's add Cecil Collins at running back.
Let's add Yatil Green at wide receiver.
Let's say we got all of them in the same year in rounds 1 through 3. We had a need at every position drafted 1-3. The names looked great. It's a good draft?
Grading a draft at this point is a futile exercise. It's been proven over and over time and again.
