Philbin didn't want Martin in the first place. You think he wants him now?

Didn't someone report to hanging with Pouncey at the pro bowl? Given that he was a 2nd round pick and has zero trade value, perhaps the Dolphins aren't willing to let him go so easily. Or perhaps it's a smoke screen both parties have agreed to, to increase his trade value, and get him out of Miami?

Even though my opinion counts for nothing, I don't want him back. He played like crap for two years, has mental health issues, and possibly a drug problem. I doubt he'll ever be more than what he is, undesirable.

All of the baggage and nonsense aside, I don't want him back because of his play. He's a bust, maybe a backup quality player down the line but his play was terrible even without the soap opera he created this year.

It's a trade scheme.

Don't worry about it. Jonathan Martin doesn't suit up for the Miami Dolphins in 2014 or beyond. It's not a coincidence this stuff is coming out now that the front office finally has a leader again. Dennis Hickey is thinking about this very simply. He'd like to get compensation for Jonathan Martin if he can and he can't do that if everyone knows the Dolphins have to release him. So they will begin to put out word that he could be back and that the locker room is fine and everything could go on like nothing happened, in the hopes of producing leverage.

Which is all very typical of the Miami Dolphins. They will do plenty of damage to the team image by trying to convince everyone that Martin coming back is a real possibility. The fans will hate it. The media will question it. Stories will be written. Players will comment off the record. Coaches might even comment off the record. The Dolphins will appear to not know what the hell they're doing. And all of this will be done on the slim possibility that a team actually wants Jonathan Martin enough to send a conditional 6th or 7th round pick to Miami for him. And then when that doesn't pan out, and they have to cut Martin, they will continue to look like they don't know what they're doing because they will have spent all that time fooling everyone into thinking they're ready to take him back only to be whiplashed seeing the team release him.

Very typical of this team's leadership, but also just very typical of NFL thinking in general. Many teams would do the same. The smart ones likely would not.

Martin has o say that he intends to come back to the Dolphins otherwise he is breach of his contract and the 'phins can let him go without compensation.

This is just playing the dance.

Unless the Wells report comes back saying Martin is a saint and Incognito the devil then there's no way on hell Martin comes back to the phins. But the smart move is for the 'phins and Martin to publicly say that they intend to be together next season.

The 'phins will get zero trade value from Martin if they say they won't take him back, and Martin has no chance of another NFL contract if he says he isn't willing to go back to the 'phins.

It's a dance for publicity, nothing more.

He has no trade value. Forget the "scandal" he just plain sucks. If someone offers a late 6th or 7th, just take it and move on. Why is this so hard?

He doesn't have the emotional stability it takes to play in the NFL. Players who don't play up to expectations the first couple of years sometimes improve and become solid players. But you can't do that if you're considering killing yourself because you're not doing well. You have to be able to handle initial failure emotionally to become good at just about anything,

I love that he's referred to as an asset to our offensive line in the article.. Uhmm... in what world is that even close to the truth? The guy was awful.

I`ll go out on a limb and say theres not one, NOT ONE NFL GM in the league that would even remotely believe that Martin will be playing for the Dolphins ever again. Anyone can see right through this ..." Dolphins showing interest for trade value".... scam with both eyes closed. If a team gives up anything at all to aquire this nut case they need there heads examined along with Martin himself.

Hell no!First of all he sucks and do you really think this team needs this back stabbing ***** in the locker room after all this **** that went down.****er knows he sucks and he was prepping for a lawsuit against the dolphins or the nfl.**** him.

Pretty sure Ross is looking for a way to void his contract, he just wants the Wells' report to summon first to do that. There is no way in hell Martin is back next year, our team will riot if he's back.

Like everything else that Ross has been doing lately it would likely only be a publicity stunt.

I hear you. For some reason when Ross released the statement that the Dolphins would welcome Sam with open arms, it made me think he would order Hickey to draft Sam in the 3rd or 4th round just to try to show the media Miami has a great locker room. Despite the complete lack of need at DE.

Martin was horrible at RT and slightly less than horrible at LT.... I don't believe either of the guys are coming back, for any reason. Martin has burned so many bridges that the ashes have blown away in the wind. RI is a meathead who's contract has expired. He'll find work, somewhere. Martin on the other hand, will have a stigma to overcome before he gets hired on. Don't get me wrong, someone will, because at the very least he can be a backup along the OL somewhere, but he broke the unwritten rule of ratting out the locker room. That will be difficult to overcome. If he claims his issues with playing well were due to the extreme treatment he claims to have gotten in this locker room, he'll have a hard time 'feeling at home' in any other locker room...

I would be surprised if he's brought back, however, there is the issue of his contract. There is likely offset language in it, but the Fins could be on the hook for a portion of his salary...that could be a way to get on elsewhere, that he'd still be guaranteed his rookie contract salary, no matter who pays it...

I wouldn't read too much into this type of talk. I can't really see Philbin wanting either guy back. We know he wanted RI replaced last offseason and now he's got to be worried about the relationships that were broken by Martin with the cry baby routine he displayed in November...

Yeah can't imagine he would be accepted, given all the support everyone had for Incognito. With how mentally weak Martin is, putting him back in that locker room would be career suicide

Please...I hope not...not that I care about a mid-round guy at this point, but putting aside the fact that he's marginal in talent and is undersized for this level, the crap that has been dragged thru the proverbial mud for this team needs to stop somewhere. Let's begin at the OL....besides, if the guy didn't make it here, that would be a great jumping off point for him to say "well, they treated me like I was poison" and we would again be 'in the limelight'...
