I'm getting sick of people convincing themselves the head coach "doesn't know". I'm 110% sure he's fully aware and knows. He's just not going to say. He keep those things that belong inside the locker room, inside the locker room. He protects his guys. People just like to complain about anything I guess.

I dont think its anything to do with losing. It's potentially more about a guy who's been doing his own thing a bit too much out there, not sticking to the scheme, and being held accountable for it. Stars just dont like when the rules apply to them sometimes.

 

It’d be one thing if there wasn’t already a history of players not liking playing here. Seems like we breed attitude issues and drama. Who does that fall on in the end?

to be fair, this kind of thing could easily happen on the Jets. Remember, Bowles had a scrub player punch and break the jaw of his starting QB.

 

He might have decided it's time to get surgery and shut it down for the rest of the year. Be ready for next year, either as a free agent or with Miami?

Jones is my favorite player. He better not get cut.

 

If he says hes injured then ill take his word for it. Hes under contract tfor another 3 years so hes stuck in the circus. Due 13 million next year.If we decide to trade him he will get us a good pick.

 

Generally speaking... some guys just don't take well to criticism. For all we know, he was being asked to fill another role in the D, and he wasn't happy with it. Maybe he was hurt. Doesn't seem that way though given the buzz around it right now. Either way, attitude issues are usually caused by personalities clashing, especially when facing criticism and adversity. Seems from watching alot of the replays against the Texans and Lions that Reshad was around quite a few of the defensive breakdowns. Speculation here now of course, but it's likely that he didnt take too kindly for being called out for doing some freelancing. I mean, I know we only played the Jets today, but we didnt really see any breakdowns in coverage out there today. Maybe that's on to something, maybe it's nothing. Maybe we just wanted to get a better look at Minkah or get him out there more often.

Who knows, but alot of these issues between players and coaches that people want to keep putting on Gase seem to usually stem from good players, not being happy with doing what's asked of them. Who runs the show; players or coaches? According to the thoughts of fans, it's players... because we gravitate towards them, we support them, coaches we look at as throwaways. They're not the guys that play, easy to throw them under the bus.

I dont know, something smells fishy here, but when a player pulls himself from the game, I dont care what the circumstances are, I'm pointing the finger at the player. It's not Reshad's job to do whatever he wants (if that's what was happening), it's Reshads job to execute based on the situations he's put in.

It's troubling that things like this keep happening, but the mediocrity around here will breed those feelings too. With a guy like Jones though, you'd expect him to be a leader, not a quitter like we're hearing he did today.

Of course, if he's just hurt and couldn't play.. then so be it. Hope he gets himself better, because he's great.

 

Maybe its just me. But this is one thing I LOVE about Gase. The fact that he doesnt give a flying f that he looks 'ignorant' in the eyes of the media or fans..

 

The commentators mentioned during the game that there was a big defensive meeting on the sideline and RJ stayed away from it. Id like to think if he was too injured to go he would be down there fired up and helping his guys. I am trying to not jump to conclusions because I have always loved RJ. But this smells bad from afar...

 

My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure why so many fans, and posters here are so butt hurt by the fact he simply acknowledges the media don't know ****... because to be quite honest, they dont. Especially the guys in that Miami media room.

I know for certain, I dont want my coach standing up there throwin guys under the bus, saying things that give away injury status, etc. etc. Keep whatever we can in house, give out what minimum possible to the media as the league requires. Why give out more than necessary. Sure, fans want access, Id love to know, but that's not the reality of things. I'm not sure why everyone takes it so personally.

So here's the thing... We know Gase has been on a mission to change the culture around here. One in which we've all probably at some point always felt guys are spending too much time enjoying a vacation type lifestyle in Miami, rather than a pro football player lifestyle. I think our OL under Philbin was an example of that, and we've seen Gase purge the room of guys causing problems. While most will simply say the player challenged the coach, coach moved him. It's not that simple. As this article reveals, Jones has been a problem. Being late, and fined, freelancing.... So, the being fined part is about as much as a coach in the NFL can do to discpline a player who isn't falling in line. Clearly they've been trying to get him to come along, and with so many young parts on this defense now, apparently they've just had enough. Much like Ajayi, and Landry. Granted, his knack for making big plays, has let him become the player he is, when it starts causing problems, you have to solve the problem. With Minkah here... now you look at it as can Minkah replace Reshad? If you put the kid in there and have results, maybe Reshad sees the writing on the wall for him... Afterall, with his shoulder, and age, how much longer is he really the solution on D?

Either way, it worked out... they got Minkah on the field more. They played well on D... albeit against a inferior offense, but it was a good time to experiment. Jones though... shame on him for that response. That's being a ****ty team mate. Swallow your pride, pal. TJ has looked bad the last few weeks, but not today. Some may say well why not pull TJ for Minkah... but so far, today shows they may be right.

time will tell, but looks like we've got a situation here where a player was deemed to be causing problems to the scheme, he's disciplined for it, and what do you know, the dog who's been here, and successful for a long time doesn't like it... That's fine. I wouldnt want him to like it. I'm glad he doesn't like it. But that, doesn't give you any right to pull yourself from the game and quit on your team. That's some bull**** right there.

Know what works in NE? The players know, there's only one way. Their way. What's our problem over the years... there is no way. It's just been a **** show. We've got a coach right now, trying to change all of that, and you know what.. guys are going to fall victim to that change. We all see it at work... new manager comes in, does things differently, what happens? Everyone gets upset... some adapt, some refuse, ultimately those who refuse, are left behind.

Love Reshad Jones, hell of a play maker, but you can't allow one guy, to do whatever he wants when you're trying to bring along a young defense the right way.... your way. He's the guy you need to buy in, and set that example. If he's constantly being a problem, then something has to change. You can't keep letting the inmates running the asylum. The troubling part here to me is we've had alot of inmates running the asylum, and the guy in charge doesnt seem to be able to reign them in, but it doesn't look like it's been for lack of trying to me. Sometimes... enough is enough and tough decisions have to be made.

Time will tell how this plays out, and if it was right or not. To me though, if you're going to "bench" a guy of his caliber, you've got a damn good reason to IMO. It's not something you just do for fun, or to teach a lesson. If they've done it only for that purpose, then to me, it's **** off Gase. If, through their own self scouting and film study they came to that as the best solution... hey... they'd know best, their system/scheme/playcalls. They would know.. or at least should...

 

Yeah, it's not for lack of trying. Thing is, if so many players (especially the best ones) start to rebel, it's actually a sign that in their minds the coach is setting the team on the wrong course. It's a sign you have a bad coach. As you say we'll see how this plays out, but if Gase gets rid of Reshad, that for me is a strong indication that Gase is not a good HC (a good HC should be capable of getting Reshad to "buy into" what he's trying to do).

 

Damn it man..this is a sad day. And I am with you. People call out Gase as if he gets rid of players that aren't yes men, but reality is, when a culture is put under fire, the ones on the wrong side of it will hate it, will buck, and will be the loudest. This is the reason I am on board with Adam Gase. This is a culture purge, and its not pretty and a lot of people will have their feelings hurt. Its a necessary evil though.

Jay Ajayi - 1 Pro Bowl - doesn't fit the culture...get him out of here.

Jarvis Laundry - 3 Pro Bowls - doesn't fit the culture...get him out of here.

Mike Pouncey - 3 Pro Bowls - doesn't fit the culture...get him out of here.

Ndamukong Suh - 5 Pro Bowls (1 in Miami) - doesn't fit the culture...get him out of here.

Reshad Jones - 2 Pro Bowls - doesn't fit the culture...get him out of here.

But, this franchise will go to bat for Ryan Tannehill...6 years of ineptitude. I guess he fits the culture. Give him another extension.

 

I think it's way too early to comment on this one way or another. We've seen numerous players get their reps cut back (Parker, Wake, Landry, Drake, Ajayi, etc.) and they came out on fire the following week. It's almost impossible to take a guy like Reshad off the field but if he's freelancing too much and we're getting beaten deep, the right call was to give him reduced snaps. That's not bad coaching...it's exactly what Gase has done since day one. It doesn't matter who you are; you are a team player or you're sitting.

It's not shocking that it hurt Reshad's feelings either....anyone would feel exactly the same.

The big story to me, the heart of the matter, is how he practices Monday and how he plays next weekend. A true pro says "lesson learned" and gets with the big picture. A problem player pouts and blames others for his own mistakes. Jones has long been my favorite Dolphin but that doesn't matter to me for something like this...I feel exactly the same way I felt about Landry or Ajayi. Get with the program or get to stepping down the road.

I can't believe I'm even saying this- is Jones worth a 1st rounder via trade? I think he would be to a team preparing to go deep in the playoffs. I'm a Jones fanatic but hey, BYE FELICIA!

 

100%. Would be a very NE thing to do to trade Jones. However, I think the trade deadline passed recently....

 

Ajayi- limited snaps in Philly in 2017 and out for the year with injury
Landry- he's in Cleveland and the coach there got fired mid season. Nuff said.
Pouncey- Wasn't a culture cut; he couldn't practice. PFF says he's average this year.
Suh- This was nothing about culture and everything about the price tag.

I realize you made those up just to say Tannehill sucks, but we moved on from all four of those names at the correct time. Besides Suh, none of them have done anything in 2018....and Suh is not earning his massive paycheck despite playing very solid football. And as for Reshad, nobody said he doesn't fit our culture...they said he made mistakes last week and had playing time reduced.

Making five inaccurate points doesn't add up to anyone taking your opinion on Tannehill seriously. He was not inept...he was slightly above average like Pouncey, Landry and Ajayi....remember those guys that you were praising so highly? We're all frustrated with Tannehill but that's not a reason to make things up.
