Yes, that’s only one play. But Taylor has performed during this training camp like his gas tank is a whole lot closer to full than empty.
“The tank is full right now,” Taylor said. “I mean, it’s August. The tank is full. I felt good the last two days of practice. I’m healthy for the first time in a while. I’ve never had real big injury issues, but I had my shoulder repaired last year finally after I needed it done for five years.
“I knew going into last offseason and going to New York that I’d be behind the eight ball. They understood and knew that. I had to fight to get back to being right. I had [the surgery] late, and I couldn’t do anything for three months while it tightened up and healed. So hitting training camp, without OTAs or minicamps, it was the first time using it.”
Health is better
Taylor said he wasn’t quite right when he played for the Dolphins in 2009, either. He was still recovering from a bout with Compartment Syndrome that left him with nerve damage in his left leg for nine months. He also caught a staph infection and was bleeding for five months after his surgery.
Taylor wasn’t his old self because his old self actually had two healthy legs.
He feels differently now. He feels whole.
“We had a lockout,” he says. “There was nothing to do. I don’t ski. I don’t ride a motorcycle. I play golf, and if you get hurt on a golf course something’s wrong with you. So I came here feeling pretty damn good — better than I have in three years.”
