Would you rather have Sparano?

 

Newsflash, Fisher isn't the GM. The man has made the most out of minimal talent that he's been given

 

if we get rid of sparano, fisher is the only coach that i would want to replace him

 

If it comes down to Jeff Fisher or Tony Sparano give me Fisher any day. The idea that Tony is a better coach than him is a joke to put it kindly.

 

Fisher is a damn good coach.

 

Jeff Fisher is without a doubt a 'surefire' upgrade. Sparano is worse than mediocre. I don't see Fisher's team giving up today.

 

Fisher's teams are consistently play hard. He is an excellent coach, despite what your brother thinks. My brother hates Led Zeppelin. He's wrong too.

 

“Minimal talent”? Since when? The Titans are one of the most well-stocked teams in the NFL. Excellent defense year in and year out, the best running back in football, a great offensive line, emerging receivers like Kenny Britt, better tight ends than we have… they just lack consistent quality QB play. Remember, they’re not too far removed from a 12-4 season.

 

I lived in Nashville for a long time and know a thing or two about Jeff Fisher and the Titans. It's not Jeff Fisher's job to build "a perennial contender." That's the job of the owner and general manager. And yes, they have failed miserably at it. They got themselves into terrible salary cap shape a while back. That had nothing to do with Fisher's coaching ability. Then, when both he and his offensive coordinator, Norm Chow, wanted Matt Leinart, Bud Adams insisted on drafting Vince Young because he brought excitement to the team. Chow had coached Leinart at USC prior to coming to Tennessee. It seemed a natural match. But the owner got his way. As far as game-planning at the half, that's usually on the coordinators. When the Dolphins make defensive adjustments and shut a team down in the second half, people credit Mike Nolan, not Tony Sparano. When it comes to coaching, Jeff Fisher is a great coach. There's a reason why he would be a top target should he be cut free.

If you ask me, replacing Tony Sparano with Jeff Fisher and Dan Henning with John Ramsdell is probably the ideal non-player personnel move to make this offseason.

 

I'll give you the RB and offensive line. overall, their WRs, even with Britt, are nothing worth getting excited about. And I was referring to last several years, not just the last two years. Fisher's teams played were competitive even after they went through cap hell/purging and had minimal talent. Hell, our castoff Vickerson became one of their starters.

 

Fisher was one yard away from winning a superbowl. How is that not a better result than anything we've seen since I was 1 years old?
There are worse candidates than Tony, but Fisher is clearly an upgrade

 

I have firmly supported Sparano until today. I haven only seen this team quit like this once before and that was under Cam Camoron.

If his team has quit on him, then he has lost them. Time to move on. I'll take Jeff Fisher in a heartbeat or Coach Chin or somebody. Just bring me a guy who knows what the hell he's doing.

Right. Because that Vince Young pick has worked out so well for them thus far. Who knows what might have happened had Leinart gone to the Titans and played for his old offensive coordinator? I'm not sure I'd be so quick to claim that it would inevitably have been worse than what the Vince Young era has been thus far.

 

I have lived in TN since the Titans moved here. I would take Jeff Fisher tomorrow over what we have. He consistently fields hard nosed, some say even borderline dirty, football teams. The Titans have an identity and you know what your going to get. I have seen the talent and lack there of on this team and they find a way to be competitive. He isn't afraid to make hard decisions that are more often correct, even if not popular. This team wins with Kerry Collins at QB. He doesn't have a rocket arm, but man can he throw a football. Yeah, I'd take Fisher in a minute.

Hold that, the ONLY other person I would want besides A: Keep Tony S and B: Jeff Fisher is Mike Nolan...but I am afraid that might distract from his defensive wizardry

AND, if either of the other 2 besides TS are there, we better retain Jeff Ireland!@!@!@!

 

I don't think it is a given that Fisher would insist on changing things on defense.

I found this post surprising. I would have thought that a head coach with a 17 year tenure, a Super Bowl Appearance, numerous playoff appearances and one of the better overall records in the league would be a candidate we would want to consider as head coach.

I mean, I understand the points you're making about Tennessee and I'm not trying to compare one to the other, but look at Bill Bellichek in New England versus Bill Bellichek in Cleveland.

Could Jeff Fischer finally get over that hurdle with a new team? Maybe, maybe not.

That's kind of what I'm getting at. If a coach is not the GM (which btw I think is best, but a coach should have SOME say), sometimes he's forced to play a losing hand and when you're called, if you only have a pair of jacks, you're going to get killed by a full house.

The ownership and front office forced Vince Young down Fischer's throat and there was nothing he could do but try and bluff his way through the season.

 

That's exactly where I am right now too......Not sure what that says....

 

I'd take John Fox over Fisher.

I'm convinced Cowher wants to coach next season. I'm not sure if Gruden does or not. I hope he does and I hope Ross hires him.

Rumor has it that Gruden may be interested in the now open Cleveland job, where he would get to coach Colt McCoy, his man crush from last year's draft.

Of course, it's Cleveland. Whereas, we're Miami.
