We overpaid for Wallace.......

 

wallace only gets about 15 mill of that 60 this season. and at this rate he will never get all 60 of it. hes looking at half right now.

I hate having wallace and all but obviously what wallace does for your team is more important than what cotcherry does.

I was down on Wallace before all the analytics came out in the past day or so. In short, he is been poorly utilized within our scheme.

If he's only been thrown to deep 15 times all season, that is ridiculous. I was expecting more like 3 to 4 times per game. He without question should be at 30 to 40 deep targets so far this year.

Isn't that why we brought him in?

 

Would the stats be different if QBs were swapped as well? There are too many variables to make a good comparison and I think it's too early to tell if Wallace was a good investment or not.

 

My Opinion is that Cotchery sucks, but is having a nice season. Wallace is good, but is having a bad season.

 

I call it bad coaching and terrible OL play, mixed with Tannehill not doing a good job when the opprotunities are there.

 

Wallace's expertise is the long ball but unfortunately that takes time to set up and our pass pro has been abysmal this year. If Sherman was calling more long throws from the pocket Tannehill would probably be on the IR right now. What I'd like to see them try is a designed roll-out to Wallace's side. I think that could by the time to set up the play.

 

And what we've been over ad nauseam in other threads is that we have to get Wallace off the sidelines and attacking the deep middle of the field. It's how he was used with great success in Pitt but not here. On another thread, someone posted a series of YouTube clips of Wallace in Pitt. There were some misfires by Ben that wound up being touchdowns because he attacked the deep middle and was able to adjust. Here, those go slightly out of bounds and then Tannehill gets ripped in the media.

 

You are a Steeler fan. That was called Injured.

 

It was a terrible decision to sign Mike Wallace, a large part of his success came from the circumstances and even then how he struggled with the offensive change in Pittsburgh should have been a big warning sign.

 

Big Ben makes things happen and we overpaid for Wallace.

 

He played injured for most of the season. I watch all the games. That was part of his appeal. He produced while injured.

 

That's a good point...i remember that now. The change from Bruce Arians to Todd Haley and then to Mike Sherman probably has something to do with it.

 

Don't mind him...he doesn't discriminate...he does it to us dolphin fans too.

What do you call HALF of Cotchery's production coming in 4th quarter garbage time or late 4th quarter prevent?

In devil's advocate defense of Wallace, what do you call him being one of only three receivers to average 1000+ yards and 8+ TDs since he entered the league in '09, in the company of Calvin Johnson & Larry Fitzgerald?

 

Ok troll, Your clueless, and also ignoring the drastic changes to the offense made by Todd Haley, which big Ben publicly despises. We aren't exactly happy with Wallace right now....what is the point of this thread other than to be a troll ?

Dropping cotchery was one of my favorite moves the jets have made recently, besides drafting Sanchez and then Geno. Cotchery is a baller, in the mold of a Marty Booker, only tougher. Very Hines Wardish too. Enjoy him, and Antonio Brown, another one of my favorites. Do yourself a favor and move on.... Oh right, you guys suck now.... Never mind ! Little victories !

Cotchery doesn't suck. To say as much is ridiculous. He's been in the league for 10 yrs and averages about 40 catches a season. He is a solid #2 or #3 receiver at this point of his career who can be effective in his role within the parameters of an offense. I wouldn't him being a Dolphin, and I've felt that way since he entered the league. He is a physical receiver, with big, strong, reliable hands.

Mike Wallace: 40 catches, 495 yds, 12.4 avg, 1 TD , offered $50 million by the Steelers

Wes Welker: 61 catchers, 648 yds, 10.6 avg, 9 TD, no reported offer by the Steelers

 

The transition has Been tough because we run a very strict timing based offense and he's not yet used to that type of offense, and our Qb isn't nearly the scrambler than Ben is, it might take more than the normal amount of time to have all three entities compromise, maybe it will, maybe it won't, we'll see if their smart enough and selfless enough to do so.

 

He's a solid #4 receiver at this point in his career, IMO.

 

I'm not down on Wallace because of the drops or overall numbers. I'm down on him because of his overall softness, lack of hustle, and overall low football iq. He doesn't fight for balls to turn an Int into just an incomplete pass, doesn't care to even attempt blocking downfield, doesn't come back to the ball simply just waits for it, and constantly on 3rd and whatever distance stops the route a yard short of the sticks.

 

He is doing just fine as the Steelers #3 now. Don't know why he'd be considered no better than a #4.

I was getting pounded in the forums over and over and again for bringing up how fundamentally bad Mike Wallace really is, and there were only a few others who were saying similar things.

These are not little mistakes that Ireland has been making. We are talking about big multi-year deals for unproven and highly questionable players. Unforgivable!

#2: Why were you railing against him last winter? He was a Steeler last winter.

 

The route concepts we run don't endear themselves to getting the ball in the hands of a single player and don't really endear themselves to wallaces strengths. Wallace should be getting 6-8touches every game for what the dolphins are paying him and they are making poor use of their new shiny toy. Wallace also has trouble tracking the deep ball and doesn't fight for it so Miami should be adjusting how they get the ball to him which they haven't done.

 

Told my wife (who is a Steelers fan) that I wished it were Antonio Brown who Miami signed instead of Wallace. He is so fun to watch. Damn fine football player. Seems to have a large route tree.....
