I seriously think that if the 360 didn't have the RROD, that Sony would have closed it's Playstation division by now. Think how many more 360's would have sold?
-
that's some bold ****. Activision is one of the biggest game developers/publishers out there. They put out just as much crap (more I think) as EA, so it's not gonna effect anything but the 1 or 2 actual sellers they have, and the 20-30 crapware they release per year.

PS does have some great exclusives out now and more coming. Infamous was awesome, and GoW will be huge.sking29 likes this. -

3DO had some exclusives too

The only games people will really miss is the Call of Duty games and the Guitar/DJ/other Hero games.

Ouch, it makes me question yet again Sony is thinking by not cutting the price. Pretty much all the industry analysts have called for it for some time now.
One thing I question though is why you wouldn't develop for the PSP, I mean that things selling like hot cakes isnt it? Is that a ***** to program for as well?
And if this did happen it would be a HUGE loss for Sony. I have never gotten into the online COD thing but I believe its one of the most played games on X Box live, and I would imagine the same for PSN. And while I dont like the Hero games they are huge, and on of the biggest party franchise games out there.
Edit, never mind, the PSP is getting killed by the DS, so yeah, I guess this does make sense. -
Not good news for Sony but when everything is considered they don't lag that far behind the 360 in monthly sales in the US, are winning in Japan, and are tied in Europe. The whole Sony is getting spanked argument is overrated IMO. Are they disappointing this generation?...yes...but that is only because they have made so many missteps.
However after owning a 360 less than a week I can now firmly say I may own another MS product but if their quality doesn't improve I'll be Sony only as the PS3 is a superior console. 2 years with the PS3 and no problems, 5 minutes with a 360 and I no longer have an HDMI connection and MS is telling me I need to send the system in to be fixed...pure crap and I don't understand how MS can produce things at this quality and get away with it. I knew 360s were made with chewing gum and string before I got one but I expected more than 5 minutes of good times. I now agree with Stitches that the PS2 was good quality after owning a 360 for less than a week. So I'm glad I only bought a 360 for exclusives and got a great deal otherwise I would probably send it back for a refund and just keep the PS3. :pity: -
To 3rd parties, it's less about the number of PS3's out there and more to do with the attach rates. Yes, the PS3 isn't that far behind the 360 in hardware sales. But I'm pretty sure that overall 360 software sales on non AAA titles are significantly higher than the PS3.
When looking at Activision. they release 3-4 AAA titles (your CoD's and Heroes) and several crapware games that just cater to movie goers and kids. Their AAA titles are selling less on the PS3 (not by too much, maybe a few hundred thousand in the worse cases I think). The Crapware is selling MUCH less on the PS3. The 360 has a ridiculous attach rate... I remember reading somewhere that it's one of the highest in history (need Midevil in here to do some number crunching). If the PS3 is significantly harder to develop for (especially for a grade-A developer like Activisions camps - Being sarcastic), then they spend a good amount of time and money porting to the PS3 (assuming the 360 is the lead platform). If their crapware sales isn't covering the gaps, I can see the business logic...
Still not in the CEO's best interest to **** talk though. His reasoning is that lowering the cost of the PS3 will put more in homes, and essentially raise attach rates.

So MY attach rate is pretty close considering how long I have had each system, but PS3 is ahead (on a /month basis). I know I am not the normal gamer/consumer though so I doubt I'm a good example. -
Activision is crap in my opinion but they are one of the big boys as game developers go. Something is wrong when they start jumping ship.
-
wait...wait...
first off why not exchange it at the store you bought it at if its brand new? where did you buy it?
was it an elite or what? and are you sure it's not the cable that went bad? -

I doubt that the "blue ray" drive costs anything really. :shifty:

I read on Joystick that analyst are expecting a $100 dollar price cut around the time Madden 10 comes out. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/19/analyst-gamestop-expects-meaningful-ps3-price-cut-soon/
This would be great. If that were to happen, I'll likely pick up a ps3 before the year is over. Uncharted 2 looks amazing and rumor has it that England is getting Grand Turismo 5 Nov. 27. Two exclusive AAA titles and an *** load of good looking games coming out these next three quarters too.
I also want Sony to get headsets into their PS3 package... -
-
You can find the Endwar Special Edition for $40 or less at many best buy's (and targets) and they include the official bluetooth headset. -
My PS3 has also been a solid piece of equipment. I have the original 80 GB version with backwards capability. It froze maybe once or twice. Otherwise it runs great. -

I have a very hard time believing that Activision hasn't made a profit on PS3 call of duty4 and the guitar hero games. A VERY hard time. So I guess if the Activision CEO likes less profit, then sure stop developing for a major console. The profit margin may be smaller but it is in fact still a profit. Why would you stop doing something in a business that netted you a profit? Is this all it takes to be a company's CEO? I'm in the wrong line of work.
Also interesting that Playstation 2 is the platform that enabled Guitar Hero to become what it has today. [God knows how many other activision games were sold for a playstation console] The first two were selling like hotcakes on PS2 before it ever came to 360. Now this guy is trying to throw Sony under the bus, making their sales look worse than they actually are, and essentially trying to kill the Playstation brand name. Amazing.
If these lazy developers get their wish and PS3 goes away we will see a significant drop in game quality. Guaranteed. Not to mention no company will ever dare try to be technologically innovative in the future for fear of cheap, lazy developers not supporting them. Outside of motion control anyway. -

dude, **** activision. This is the same company that dropped the ghostbusters game because they knew they couldn't come out with one every year. the sam company cashing in on call of duty every year, and guitar hero every 6 months. THey ran the tony hawk series into the bloody ground until EA stepped up and made a far superior skateboarding game.
Seriously, EA gets a ton of **** but activision are the real greedy bastards.
(for the record, i dont disagree with anything they said. Just don't think they have the right to say it...) -
-
Also as far as activision goes maybe they are trying to get a little monetary support thrown their way to keep their games on the PS3. :confused2: -
you are telling me that you got a 360 from dell...and 5 minutes after having it the hdmi port went out?
and you called m$? theres a 30 day warranty from dell i guarantee that...sking29 likes this. -

And yes I was doing the initial setup for the 360 and it updated (I'm guessing to the NXE dashboard) and restarted and ever since then nothing.
Also Stitches there is still a quality issue there. -

When they made the PS3 Sony was doing really well. Now in the last few years Sony has not been doing that well. Taking a huge lose now on a chance to make a big gain in the future isn't as easy when you are taking huge loses in many of your divisions.Stitches likes this. -
