watching the nfl network and Kurt Warner was putting Brady ahead of Marino he took Dan out of the top 10 qbs' because he loves Brady . I am sick of the media and their snubbing of Marino why doesn't any former dolphins work for the networks ? I guess I am just tired of the dolphins not being relevant .
in the NBA they refuse to address the Miami HEAT and they constantly put the LAKERS BULLS AND CELTICS as the can do no wrong clubs . do anyone else get tired of the media playing favorites ?

I would really like to know 10 QBs who are even in the conversation.
I can only come up with 5. Favre, Peyton, Montana, Brady, Elway....who else can even possibly be in the conversation? Who are his other 5? -

Rod Woodson, a defender who played opposite both guys was floored when Brady and I think Manning too was ranked ahead of Marino on the NFL Top 100 of All Time. Said having played against both, Marino was clearly better.

Would marino be great against the speed of today's defenses?

Does anybody here remember the dirty hit Greg Lloyd put on Marino back in the day? How many of those hits does a QB face these days? It's a different game. I'm not saying it's worse (complaints about pass defense aside, because it's definitely worse with all the ticky-tack flags), but these QB's are playing with a lesser degree of difficulty, even if the athletes and schemes are better.Hiruma78 likes this. -
Of course, I'm firmly of the belief that players like Fran Tarkenton and Johnny Unitas would blow players like Rivers and Brees out of the water in today's game, as well.M1NDCRlME, Hobiesailor and MAFishFan like this. -
As for moot questions, one of my favorites is this:
How would Michael Jordan have done going up against a hostile press and a 24-hour news cycle? I think his game would be just as dominant today, just as Kobe could have done a lot back then, but I wonder what would have happened to the global brand that Jordan became if he hadn't been so protected. -
i just love how people talk about football being the ultimate team game and then hold it against one player(in this case marino) for not winning a championship. dan didnt win a superbowl because the teams he was on were mediocre teams, its quite astonishing he got the dolphins into the playoffs with some of the teams he had. any qb list that fails to mention marino is invalid.
i think tom brady is a great qb but the guy won superbowls in the early part of his career because he had a dominant defense, a running game and good receivers. when the talent on the defense slipped and the running backs were no longer all that good, he has won jack ****.
if shula would have delivered the players for marino, and the drafts werent god awful year after year, marino would have had rings.

I have no idea why anyone would be upset with how the media reports on the teams in South Florida.
Other than the Heat, the rest of the teams in South Florida have basically been irrelevant for the past decade. If your team isn't located in one of the top media markets, your team isn't going to get much notice from the media unless their winning games.
The Seahawks were hardly ever mentioned in the national media until they started winning and making the playoffs. Personally I don't think the national media has a bias against South Florida teams. They just recognize that the teams in South Florida, (other than the Heat, when James was with the Heat), don't generate a large viewing audience for their games and therefore they obviously don't feel that giving much time reporting on the teams makes much sense. If the local fans don't want to attend the games or watch them on TV, why should the national media spend much time reporting on these teams?
The Dolphins have had local TV ratings in the bottom five of all NFL teams over the past three years.
Once the team actually becomes relevant again by becoming a winning team, I have no doubt they will receive plenty of positive press from the national media. Until then, they will continue to be an after thought in the national media and that is the way it should be, based on the fact they can't even draw a large TV viewing audience in their own back yard. -
They say these kinds of things just to get people riled up. If everyone had the same list of top 10 QBs, as if that actually means anything, that would make for boring TV.
So basically, just ignore them. Their opinion means nothing. -
Unitas. Graham. How are these greats not in the discussion? And how do rule changes and additional games in a season not come into play?
Ive always felt stats per game played should be how you compare the top guys from different eras, not seasonlong stats.

One thing I will say is that Miami travels well. Since I'm on the Left coast I go to away game (SD, OAK, SF, PHX) and there are ALWAYS a lot of Dolphin fins in attendance. That's why I was a little pissed that the Raiders game got moves to London since I would have been at that game. While we may have bad TV ratings, the fans show in in droves to games that I've attended.

I was born in Maryland and was a Colts fan until the Dolphins franchise came to South Florida. I watched Unitas during his most productive years and he was just as good as any of the top QB's of the last three decades. He just played in an era where the passing game wasn't used the way it is today and WR's actually weren't allowed to just run free all over the field, as they are today.
If the rules had been the same during Unitas's career, he would have had a couple of hundred more passing TD's. I would easily put him in the top five NFL QB's of all time.
As far as Graham goes, I'm not quite old enough to have seen him play. Yet I do know that he was the top QB of his era and based on the comments of those who saw him play, I would think that he too should be listed in the top ten QB's of all time.
The game today is very different from the game it was before all the rule changes. So when lists are made to rate the top 10 players at any position in the NFL. Perhaps there should be a timeline separating the players who played when the game was real football, and not the slightly better than flag football, which is being played today. -
The Miami Heat received plenty of media coverage during the time Lebron was a member of the team.
TV is all about ratings. ESPN and other sports networks attempt to reports on teams which bring them the largest viewing audience. Obviously that means they will report more on the teams which are from the bigger TV markets.
The viewing audience for sporting events and sports networks is much lower in South Florida than in most other cities with professional sports teams. So sports networks really don't have any economic reason to spend a lot of time discussing teams from an area where they have a small viewing audience. Especially when these teams have been mediocre or worse over the past decade. -
I quoted what I did because I think it gets lost in the "great QB's" debate a lot: since the Patriots have been built around Brady and not their defense, they have not enjoyed the same success. Sure, there was a miracle catch SB 42, but if the Patriots had won that game they would have stolen one from a team that dominated them for most of the game. That was Brady's best shot to win one as the man with the team on his back and he didn't get it done. That shouldn't remove him from the "all time greats" discussion, but Marino was the man with the team on his back pretty much since his first start, and the fact that he didn't get it done should not remove him from that same discussion, especially considering he played without the rules that benefit today's QB's. Dude did things that nearly every QB who has played since would love to be able to do.bran likes this.
