when we moved up in the 4th round, I thought we were gonna take Nick Toon (Wisconsin) or Marvin Jones from Cal (we had another shot in the 5th to get Jones but got Josh Kaddu instead *smh*). but Lamar Miller was really the only non-WR I was content with drafting at that spot, I think he was a steal. I have big expectations for him this season.

I was infatuated with Marvin Jones. it was a damn shame we passed on him.

 

I said it last year, and I'll say it again now, this was one move of Jeff Ireland's I really liked. I thought it showed good foresight with respect to where Miami's RB position was going to be heading into 2013. I'm pretty glad we've got this kid on the team. Hopefully he pans out like James, Portis, and Gore. Also interested to see what Jonas Gray brings to the table. If that kid hits as well, kudos to Jeff with respect to the RB position.

 

He started to come on late in the regular season for Cincinnati when Mohamed Sanu went down. They've got a really nice receiving corps with A.J. Green, Sanu, Jones, Andrew Hawkins, and Ryan Whalen (Andrew Luck's buddy from Stanford). And that's after they cut Armon Binns a few weeks into the season.

I like the fact that if there is even one sliver of an opening provided by the OL he seems to find it. I also like the fact that he avoids taking big hits. He positions himself well to avoid that. Even in that one run where he was getting spun and George Wilson was coming in to lay a lick...he managed to avoid most of it.

 

What could possibly go wrong?

Does worry me is DTrain is the only depth behind him, and DT cannot stay healthy.

As much as I love Thigpen, he is not a traditional Rb.

 

The question is do we fill the spot if Reggie leaves with a vet or do we go rookie, which would make for one hell of a young running back unit..

I don't think I could resist Eddie Lacy if he falls to 2 a.

 

If you really like Miller, I don't see how you use a high 2nd round pick on another back. I like Lacey a lot, but this team has much more pressing needs. You can fill the backup HB role with a later round pick and/or a FA.

I like Lamar Miller a lot. I think had he stayed at Miami he would be the first back taken this year and potentially a 1st round pick. He has the ability to be special.

 

They will definitely sign another back. I don't think they are counting on concussion Thomas for much of anything at this point.

 

I know 24, your probably right man, as usual, i need to get over the man crush and give Miller a legit chance, there's not to many dudes at that size with that kind of speed, I just have a more conviction on Lacy..

Can I spend a third on Montee ball if he drops?, or andre Ellington, can a brother get a step Taylor in the fourth?

If Jonas Gray is healthy love to see what he can do

 

When you break his numbers down, there are some things that excite me when thinking about what he can do with more carries. First, he was top 5 in the NFL relative to the consistency of his runs. When you eliminate runs of 15+ yards, he still averaged around 4.5 yards per rush attempt. With those rush attempts added in, his average was something like 5.3 yards per rush.

Also, on 51 some odd rush attempts, Lamar forced 6 missed tackles.

The kid has a ton of ability and simply needs to put it all together from a mental standpoint and let the game slow down for him. Matt Waldman recently did an article on him where he compared him to both Edgerrin James and Clinton Portis. He felt he wasn't quite to Edge's level, but that he would be better than Portis.

Lacy would be a great pickup in the 2nd IMO. Let him and Miller split 30 carries a game, keep em fresh and mash people in the run game. I like it.

 

Did Lamar Miller hurt you at any point in the past or something?

 

The biggest difference I see in Miller vs Bush is that when they both hesitate and shuffle their feet, Bush's forward momentum dissipates while Miller's is always going forward. I think that is why Miller always looks more explosive when he hits the hole.

 

Miller has the potential to be a game changer whenever he touches the ball IMO. Thats what we need more of.

Further that, hes more consistent when he DOESN'T change the game (compared to Reggie for example). Would love them both, but I think theres something to be said for sticking with Miller as your go to guy on his consistency alone.

 

I keep saying this KB, but for the life of me I can't figure out how he had that average playing as he did, that's what gives me hope, I know he didn't play well relative to his true skillset yet he still produced..He's the kind of back where once the game slows down he has very unique skills that connect his vision to his feet, and to me it was obvious that he couldn't find that harmony because of the speed of the game..

When it slows down for him, and he finds his patience, I think that harmony will then be obvious to the naked eye..

 

I think me and you are the only ones brother that would be willing to change philosophy on the fly, I'll raise you a Jonathan Cooper in the first if we wanna mash the hell out of people..just pound mothers all day, the let miller come in with those freshy legs.

I think you are right to have a man crush on him. He runs like a man and I think he'll be a good back. I just don't think you should spend a valuable pick on a back unless you really need one or can afford to make a luxury pick. It's just too easy to find a solid one and really, that's all the Dolphins need right now.

 

If we don't keep Bush I'd be very happy with Lacy in the 2nd. You need 2 backs and I don't think a 2nd is too high at all. The $4-5 million saved on Reggie or another vet could then be used on one of the other needs.

Would def not mind spending some bigger resources on another RB as long as he's a quality player. No Daniel Thomas bull****.

 

He keeps his head up and north/south at all times. Glad he had that rookie experience.Should only help him adjust quicker when he gets more of the load next season.
He reminds me of a quicker version of Ray Rice.

He's not running at the combine so I'm hoping there's a chance he drops to 2a but I doubt it like you said....I really like Montee ball as well.

 

too early to judge miller imo he didn't get enough snaps to really get a true look at what he can or can't bring. Which is crazy to me if they plan on having him the starter going into training camp. Were not even sure if he can even handle all the pass blocking duties a rb in the nfl needs to do now and days.

 

Imo lacy is nothing more than a Bam Morris in the NFL.
