And also lets discuss the nice dosage of fumblitis the past couple of weeks.
What to make of it? Will it be addressed in the offseason? He is getting into MMA fights in every game. I love the intensity, but it needs to become a controlled intensity. He got us some horrible penalties last week in a must win game, he has also fumbled a couple times now
I know some people here are going to defend him and say it doesnt matter and we are overreacting. All opinions welcomed, keep it civil.

This has been addressed by Gase before. It will be interesting. If this team is winning, I think you see less of this extracurricular activity from Landry.
Regardless of the reasoning behind those outbursts, he needs to become more of a professional AND more of a leader. LEAD this team with your intensity. Don’t hurt your team.dolphin25, SocaCasualuk and thetylernator like this. -

Don't get me wrong, Jarvis Landry is one of my favorite players, but the consistency of his antics will certainly give the front office reason to pause when considering his contract extension.
At best, it's leverage that can lead towards a more team-friendly deal. At worst, he's gone. Hoping for the former. -
I definitely like Landry. He has great hands, is explosive and can make defenders miss with his quickness. The ting that makes him so talented is also his greatest weakness...his arrogance.
Landry's arrogance is what drives his dominating confidence on the field in my opinion. He's going to catch every ball every play and no one is going to tackle him. That's his mindset which is a great mindset to have however, Landry needs to learn excess within control.
As was pointed out earlier when the Dolphins are winning, Landry is a "model" player and leader on the team but when we're losing, that same arrogance causes him to lose his temper, commit STUPID penalties and lose focus on his playmaking abilities.
Don't lose that arrogance Landry but I also have to say...grow up!!! -
He's basically the pulmonary artery of this team. We need to pay him and bring him back. He's tough, durable, and should stay a Miami Dolphin for a long time. He may not be a down field huge play receiver, but he's Hines Ward, Wes Welker, Steve Tasker, Golden Tate....You don't find too many Jarvis Landrys in the NFL. If anything, trade one of Parker or Stills and let Grant and Carroo have a run. We definitely need to hold on to Landry.

Replace him, if you can reproduce his YAC numbers:
Among WRs, RBs & TEs

Tough as nails, blocks like crazy (BIG plus!), and moves the chains. He gives his heart and soul out there and wears his emotions on his sleeve. There’s not really much to dislike about him. My only complaint is he needs to keep the stupid penalties in check.
On another note, I’m actually very surprised at Drake’s actions and the way he acted on the sidelines. No one could really calm him down.SocaCasualuk, eltos_lightfoot, resnor and 1 other person like this. -
It's all about the money. If he wants to receiver money, you let him walk. If he takes money like a good #2, you keep him. I'd like to see him with Tannehill throwing him the ball, and I'd prefer to not add starting receiver to the shopping list for the off-season.

I'm really on the fence with him right now, almost to the point that I hope we go through another Olivier Vernon situation where some team throws so much money at him that the decision is made for us. I don't want say let him go, but I strongly suspect that at some point this off-season I'll wind up uttering that phrase and feeling pretty good about it.
I just don't know what he's good for if you're trying to win Super Bowls. He's not Antonio Brown. He's not Odell Beckham. He's not Brandin Cooks. He's very coverable. The 8 YPC thing is really f'in terrible. I'm sorry, but that's just awful. And I understand when you have a player that's ranked highly in something like YAC. You kind of want to stick up for him, but what does YAC matter when you're not a downfield threat and you're just building YAC stats based on a bunch of WR screens? That's not impressive. At that point, you're just a glorified RB.
If we're totally honest with each other, we should probably start talking about how the team could replace the production...because you know what? It's very replaceable in today's NFL.
This guy doesn't have Victor Cruz or Brandin Cooks speed. He's not a weapon returning kicks. He's not a jitterbug like Wes Welker was. He's not close to being a Julio Jones or AJ Green kind of guy. To me, the argument for him was that he could threaten 1,200-yds and he could post 12 YPC without eating up one of your two outside positions. You could legitimately build a 3-WR offense with this guy in your stable. Knowing Parker has busted. I'm tempted to let that dream die and just give up with Landry because it's just not healthy for a franchise to dump money into a guy without a clear skill and who demands a massive number of targets in order to justify his presence. It just seems like a dumb move to be quite honest.
If he could sustain what he did last year, we could have discussions about big money because the offense would have big upside. But this year he looked so pedestrian it makes you go back to that 2015 and 2016 and really analyze how impressive those seasons or whether they were a flash in the pan.
I don't want to discount what he's done. He's talented. He's motivated. He's a weapon. That's for sure. I'm just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I starting to come around to all those folks who argued it'd be a mistake to hand someone like him a ton of money. I strongly suspect it's a bad investment waiting to happen. It's great that this guy panned out as a 2nd round pick but hey, the NFL is about value, not star power. And good teams sign contracts based on what players are going to do, not what they've already done.
And in regards to the attitude, he reminds of Suh in Detroit. He plays angry to the point that it's inappropriate and immature. It's not entertaining. The guy should feel totally embarrassed for how he acted yesterday. That was a joke. This isn't his rookie year. And to make matters worse, this year he was supposed to be a real leader demonstrating what he can do for the franchise moving forward. He did not accomplish that. Nobody here is convinced he's a smart leader. He's energetic. He's passionate. But that's not being a leader and yes we can find more of those sorts of players out there.
All that being said, I get his frustration. This year has been a massive disappointment in almost every conceivable way for him. His efficiency went down the toilet. His overall production took a hit. He lost his QB and he lost a lot of games in the process of it all. I do get how it's hard to handle that when you're young and pouring everything you've got into something.
But this is a business decision, not one to be made because we do or don't like a guy. It's really about value and I'm not sure it's smart to spend on what Jarvis Landry offers at this point.Last edited: Jan 1, 2018Steve-Mo, Irishman, Dolphin North and 3 others like this. -
Not sure how I feel about Landry.
I think a large part of what he brings is the passion and fire that can jumpstart a team. Not many people truly have that, Jarvis does.
However he IS a limited WR, just like a speed WR who can't run the full route tree, just on the other end of the spectrum.
Hard not to be happy to lock him up, hard not to understand why they shouldn't commit a big contract.
I know you get your 1 cheap year of football out of Parker and regardless you have to be hesitant to sign that dude to any kind of a big money deal. So IF we let Jarvis walk? You are potentially looking at replacing 2 or your 3 current WR's on the roster right now.resnor, Irishman and eltos_lightfoot like this. -

Guys, do not overthink this one. Landry brings a fire and a passion to every game he plays. Does it get out of hand at times? Yup. One thing is not disputable, Landry wants to win. In fact, during the glory years of the Philbin era, I kept thinking, "Landry is the only one out here that wants to win."
I'll be honest; I can completely sympathize with him. The losing and the play calling this season was maddening. If it takes a 15 yard penalty here and there to get his boys fired up, so be it. Heaven forbid, Coach Eeyore ever getting his guys fired up instead, he will just mope around and blame other players for the Phins' woes.
I'll take the guy who wants to win over the guy who wants to sulk 100% of the time.dolphin25 likes this. -
It's the value. If he wants a contract on the same level as his boy OBJ is going for? No. If he wants top WR money, I will be thrilled to let him get that on some other team. He's a JAG - he's replaceable. We may have been better served keeping Matthews tbh.

Landry going out there acting like he's the only guy who cares is just immaturity showing itself. Guys like Stills want to win just as much. I'd prefer to see that kind of intelligence and maturity get rewarded as opposed to whatever it is Landry represents, which borders on being out-of-control. -
The other thing we have to consider, is what we are OK with neglecting to pay Landry if we go that route. Are we OK with the same OL next year or more bottom-barrel retreads? Skipping out on LB? If my choice is Landry or a top FA guard ... I'm probably going guard. -

Make no mistake, Drake was basically molested by a fat man BECAUSE OF Landry. Drake was kicked out of the game BECAUSE OF Landry. Could we have used Drake on that final drive? 2012: 11/20 for 151-yd
2013: 41/67 for 448-yd, 2-TD
2014: 12/22 for 135-yd, 2-TD
2015: 43/61 for 662-yd, 4-TD
In the one season that did go well (2015), he missed 5-games with injury leading to concerns that he just wasn't reliable. There were questions about how high his ceiling was.
And although his 2016 went pretty well in Tennessee, he came back down to earth this year:
2016: 65/108 for 945-yd, 9-TD
2017: 53/87 for 795-yd, 4-TD
And after all is said and done, DeVante Parker was supposed to be a far more explosive weapon for the team in the long-run anyhow.
I only point that out because I think we have a tendency to over-inflate the value of each and every WR that comes through Miami.
Every couple of years the names change but we're nonetheless stuck arguing how important guys are. I've defended Camarillo, Marshall, Bess, Hartline, Wallace and Matthews. I've been optimistic and supportive of this current generation of guys: Stills, Parker, Grant and Landry. Truth is, most every one of those guys is replaceable if only because of the position they play.
Honestly, Stills and Grant seem like the best bang-for-the-buck guys out of the whole bunch. So I'm glad we have them moving forward. But I think we all need to pump the brakes a little when it comes to hyping up guys we have and/or guys we've lost.
(1) We haven't lost anyone we absolutely needed.
(2) We don't have anyone we absolutely can't afford to lose.Last edited: Jan 1, 2018 -
According to Landry this morning-
He does swear that he never said a word to the official though-
-
And that was all after Adam Gase (obviously) made sure to get him the necessary targets to secure him his record. I mean, it's no secret they would try and give Landry that TD and they did with that little inside "pass."
For better or worse, Gase seems to be aware of stuff like that and the fact it matters to players. Even the commentators remarked that Landry was "tossing balls to the sidelines" after each catch thinking it'd be important to save the piece of history. I get that. Maybe yesterday Landry and Gase were a little too self-aware. What does a catch record mean if it's on the back of a bunch of WR screens and inside toss plays like that? It definitely diminishes the accomplishment. Kind of like when Strahan got the sack record after Favre laid down. I can see how that rubs folks the wrong way.
In any case, I agree. It was a bad look for Landry and it's a shame that his tenure in Miami may end on that note.ChrisKo, Steve-Mo, dolphin25 and 1 other person like this. -

If we lose Landry, I don’t know what type of offense we will have next year. We sure won’t be passing the ball at all. Lol I hope Kenyan ready to seriously carry the load. Tannehill will regress if we lose Landry too. Parker isn’t good and Stills is a deep threat, Tannehill won’t know what to do. Our offense takes a huge hit.
I can already hear the “If Tannehill had Landry still...” excuses.dolphin25 likes this. -

I like Landry, but he's easily replaceable. You pay a true number one receiver, like Brown, Green, Jones, the 12 million Landry is going to cost to stay, not a slot WR whose numbers are inflated by being fed the ball so much, a substitute for our lack of running game. I'd like to see what Grant could do as a starter.
