Good stuff. Hard to not like that guy.
Hope he gets paid like quick. Let's wrap that up. He doesn't deserve top 5 WR money. But he deserves something and something big.

Gase will get him paid , like he did for Stills
-
I seriously doubt he gets signed by us this year, he has an unrealistic vision of his value, he want's to get paid top dollar, and he just flat out isn't worth it.
I think FA next year will give him a dose of reality, because no team in the league is going to pay him top dollar, and we'll probably be one of the highest bidders.
If however, Caroo takes off this year, then there may be no attempt to resign him, just take the comp pick and move on.
I will always be a Landry fan, no matter where he plays, but you can't lead a team from the slot and he seems to think he's the team leader.Dolphin North and resnor like this. -
The problem comes when someone needs to get chewed out, Landry getting in the face of Tunsil? Jayjay? Parker? Pouncey?, it's like they say down in Arkansas, "that dog just ain't gonna hunt", he has neither the stature nor position to pull it off or enforce it.
Landry can be A leader, and I agree his drive and fire are good for the team but he can't be THE leader, and he seems to think he is.
It's a quandary, his self confidence is amazing, and you wouldn't want to muck with that, however it's so high that it seems to distort his view of reality. -
if his effort and production and meaning to this team doesn't get him paid here, then something is wrong. period

Here's the thing, even in that interview, I have never once heard from Jarvis that he wanted to be paid like a top 5 WR, not once.
She asked him the question, told him to make his case, so he did. He never brags on himself, he talks team and hard work and being the best he can be and watch the film to judge. Humble, hard working, dedicated to his teammates.
Stop flippin around Dolphins, pay the man and go win a couple rings. -
IF you're going to pay him, you give him somewhere around an average of what Tavon Austin and Randall Cobb got at $10M a year. 4 years @ $45M including signing bonus sounds about right. If he thinks he getting Julio or Odell pay, he needs to stop chewing the grass with Miles...resnor likes this. -

Now is not the time to get frugal. You do your best to negotiate but you absolutely pay him.
I laugh at these crys about penalty flags and now I'm hearing about cheap shots from him. And don't knock him because your minds get stuck on the label "slot receiver". The guy is WAY more than that.Puka-head likes this. -
Sometimes you have a guy, and this is just organic irony, like Landry, who gets so upset that someone needs to grab him by the face mask and say shut the you know what up or what ever it may be, but we've seen that more than once from him.
Sometimes a guy may just be off, just not in synch, and needs a verbal boost, positive or negative, maybe someones dogging it and you know they were drinking the night before, same thing, a + or - word or 2.
As a general rule, people, especially these people, don't accept it unless they feel you are superior in some way, the QB automatically has this right, but that is the only player that AUTOMATICALLY has it.
Superior in strength, iow, you are so bad and so big that no one argues, or, and this is the biggy, superior in talent, just a flat out better football player.
There are players on that O that pretty much know, in their own opinions, that they are better than Landry, or simply out tenure him as a leader, and they won't respond well to Landry telling them this stuff, because he doesn't have "the right" to do so, nor does he have the power to back himself.
The bottom line, in simple terms, you have to be the guy that you can't argue with, the QB has that right, and also the consensus best player, where you get no arguments and Jarvis, as much as I love his game, is not that guy. -
Compare his numbers to Antonio Brown and Julio, and see how far he is from them. Even Odell. These are numbers of guys who dominate at the perimeter. Even for a slot guy he's not producing the 10+TDs Victor Cruz and Randall Cobb have. Or Doug Baldwin.
Fact of the matter is, he's a slot guy and needs to be paid as a slot guy. I'd like to see more TDs. I mean, you have Adam Humphries in TB who is not as efficient, but at the same number of targets as Landry would have almost 1000 yards (7.5 ypt vs 8.6).
Landry is better. Is he $8 million better???
4 years $46. He better hope Carroo doesn't step upLast edited: Jul 22, 2017cuchulainn likes this. -
Landry will catch as many TDs as he has opportunities to. Such a dumb argument. Julio Jones only caught 2 more TDs than Landry with Matt Ryan's MVP season last year. Julio is top 3 NFL receiver. I doubt Falcons fans are asking him to produce more TDs before he gets "paid".
I agree with DJ in that you set a number and stick with it. But let the professionals come up with a number because they know the actual value.
I never said he needs to be paid like Julio or Antonio would if they got a fresh deal right now. He won't get as much money as Antonio did anyways and shouldn't, so that's a pointless argument.
Who cares what Doug Baldwin or Cobb caught? Landry if on the same team would do the same in some of the same circumstances.Last edited: Jul 22, 2017djphinfan likes this. -
I hope I'm wrong in that they've overpaid for Stills. That may cost them DeVante.

You were saying?
More yards, more TDs, and in Julio's case much higher YPC.
He's slightly below Baldwin

So we need to figure out why Landry doesn't get the td's. He has the catches and yards. I will say against the Jets and Cards, he is capable of huge plays. But the offense just didnt gear plays toward him, how much of that is scheme, I dont know. To me , his value is the dirty work he does to get is to the redzone to allow Ajayi and Thomas to score. We would be fools to allow Tds or lack of to judge his value

I give him a ton of credit for improving his efficiency year 3, that could be Gase's scheme, that could be him, more likely it is both. But without year 3, I wouldn't even entertain more than 10 mil a year. But year 3 he was much betterLast edited: Jul 23, 2017dolphin25 likes this. -

I wonder how much of Landry's success this year can be attributed to Stills stretching the defense. He only played 15 snaps, with a stomach virus. they scored 14 points when he was in there (he only caught 1 pass for 11 yards).
When Stills exited the game against the Jets the offense stalled. I think Landry only caught one pass the rest of the day after he left (maybe two).
Landry had 3 catches for a little more than 30 yards. If we didn't resign Stills or replace him with a fast effective WR, I bet it's Landry and Ajayi who would suffer the most. -

Our WR core currently is perfect. We have three good guys who have unique skill sets that cover the field. Success comes from exploiting the mis-matches. A "slot" receiver can certainly be the best weapon on the team and if that's the case, then they would be the "#1" receiver, right? Is Landry the #1 on this team??? I don't know how anybody could argue he's not.
65% of passes between the numbers, that means 35% outside the numbers. 2/3 of the passes going inside means you better have a darn good "slot" receiver I'd say. Look at your Patriots example, who is the primary focus of the passing game? you said it, TE and "slot". Atlanta D shutting them down doesn't mean that hasn't been where that beatch Marcia looks first, for years now. -

I have never, nor has Jarvis, tried to imply that he is a "top five" receiver. He's said he wants to be the best. He's said he wants that sure, then he says "who doesn't? If you don't want to be the best, don't think you are and can prove it, then why lace up?"
But value is a very relative thing. Would Landry be the "#1" WR on the Steelers Falcons Bengals???? Today? Nope prolly not. Is he the #1 WR on THIS team? Hell ya! Does he make the team and his teammates better when he's on the field? Hell ya!
What do WR's get paid to do? Catch the football, right??? Who's done that better the last three years?
My point was, when those other guys, Parker Stills Thomas et al start to ball, Landry will have better TD numbers. Logically speaking anyhow. -

Plus they're just one team. Atlanta had a high powered offense. No dominant TE or slot. New Orleans? Snead isn't a household name, but Michael Thomas and Cooks were burning outside. Redskins were suprisingly second in passing yards, and Jamison Crowder is pretty good but again, led by Garcon and Desean.
Colts had injuries to their WR. No problem, move TY Hilton. He had half his yards from the slot, and half outside, for a total of 1500 or so. He can play anywhere.
Landry is an important cog in this offense. But the fact he is our #1 is what bothers me. He should be our second or 3rd best WR. As good as he is, if he was third in production, we'd have a top passing offense in this league. Look at the Redskins. 1k to their top two WRs. 850 t to their slot. Another 1400 to their two TEs (might be a bit of a stretch with our TE corps ...) and a bunch of role players.
4900 yards for Cousins. That isn't bad.cuchulainn, resnor and Puka-head like this. -

Who has caught the football more times in the last 3 yrs than Jarvis Landry?
Nobody...
If the WR job is to catch the football, and he's done it more in his career than???Anybody, EVER!!! Except for his BFF who has also caught the football more times in his first three years than??? Anybody, EVER!!!
If I you to go to your boss and say, you pay me to X. I have X'ed better than any Malafala in the history of X'ers EVER!!! Over the first three years of my X'ing career. I intend to continue to be the best X'er ever and I want to do it while working for you... But I would like to be paid like the the best X'ers in the Biz!!! Would you be wrong? If the boss said, I don't know brah, there are some other X'ers out there who haven't X'ed as well as you, but they are more typical X'ers and much more popular than you so no. Would they be wrong?
It's that simple for me. You get paid to catch footballs. You catch more footballs than anybody ever. You get paid like it. Easy. -
I agree with jdang *space time continuum wormhole opens* in that if Landry is your primary receiver, you're in trouble. He is great at what he does, but he's simply not as valuable as an Antonio Brown, a Beckham, or a Jones.
