clearly the leader of this team

If he wants to get paid like Julio Jones (rumored) than man that's gonna be tough on a couple levels.) imo he isn't thinking about the team and how that may prohibit us from signing others that may be important to becoming a championship team..I do think in today's game elite players have to think about taking team friendly deals, and understand the logistics of where they truly want to be, understand what they want their legacy to look like, to think about life after football, etc, and negotiate accordingly..
Giving him 15 mill a year can strap a team and make it difficult..
I'd give him 5 years 60 mill and remind him of his dolphin legacy, maybe get creative with the up front money and contract, and remind him that Steven Ross is the owner here and cares about him, his legacy, and life after football..
Tom Brady takes less. -
Landry has never made a lot of money. Landry is essentially living off of his own income to the best of my knowledge. The lifespan of a WR is short. Landry does not have the endorsement value of Brady and likely never will. Landry does not have the post football guarantees that Brady has.
Landry should do his best to maximize his value from this next contract. If I was his agent, I would tell him that the vast majority of his entire life's earnings will come from the guaranteed money of his next contract. I would tell him to expect nothing more.
I sincerely hope that the Dolphins will do the right thing by Landry. If Landry chooses to leave in order to make more money elsewhere, I would begrudge Miami for not signing him this offseason - not Landry. -
“We hold ourselves to a different standard being the ‘New Miami,’ ” Gray said. “He let it be known out of the gate, at halftime, that the first half was over and done with. No more of that soft (expletive). It’s time to go.”
THE NEW MIAMI. I love it.
And what a bunch of horse pucky. The team will cut Landry in a second he needs to get his while he can. He's one blown out knee from being unemployed.Redwine4all likes this. -
At this point he's very difficult to put a price tag on.. -

What I do know is the man is a FOOTBALL play-uh! He is criminally misused in this offense. Throw him 6 slants a game instead of those stoooopid flipping screens and see what happens. And let him return punts too. Just pay the man.KeyFin likes this. -
when is Suhs contract up? that matters.hes counting 20 mil against the cap.
-
According to Sport Trac, we are two million over the projected cap for 2018. Immediately cutting Byron Maxwell, Julius Thomas, and Lawrence Timmons saves us 22 million. So that gets us 20 under. Suh counts 26 million against the cap, and cutting him won't help. So, unless they extend him a year and spread some of that total, its what it is. But, it is possible there could be 4-5 million there in savings.
I am leaving Tannehill's 20 mil cap hit in place because if Cutler has a great year and we cut Tannehill, Cutler won't be playing for 10 million next year. He'll be getting RTs money.
There are some other interesting choices...we could save by cutting the following players: (22.5 mil)
Pouncey 7 million
Wake 5 million
James 9 million
S. Anthony, 1.5 million
So, cutting the original three and losing three starters, plus S. Anthony, we'd be 42 million under the cap.
We'd have to draft a C and a T, which we should probably do anyway.
If I were King for a day, I'd cut Max, JT, and Timmons. I'd cut Wake, Pouncey, and SA. I'd restructure James making his cap hit closer to 3 million for next year.
I'd draft DE and a C early. Use the 40 mil to extend Jarvis, (which would still leave about 30 million to spend on FA, which might include keeping MP, Wake, and any others). I just think with Wake's age and Pouncey's injury history, I wouldn't want to get boxed in on any expensive contracts. -
Don't sleep on Timmons. Will be a warrior
-
One interesting thing is the difference in cutting him in 2018 pre June or post June. If you cut him pre June 1, you would only save 3.9 M, which would never happen because waiting until post June 1 you save $17 M...but you'd still have that enormous 9 M in dead cap so it's still a no no. So it looks like you're looking at waiting until 2020 unless he plays like absolute crap of gets into some kind of legal trouble or seriously tries to get himself cut by causing so much **** that the Dolphins just decide to eat it.
I'm not a cap expert, so correct me if I missed or misinterpreted something. -

Also, he doesn't have to be the top ranked QB by passer rating in order to keep him (Brees in 2009 was #1 in passer rating when he won the SB). He just needs to be in that top 6-7 category where you'd want your franchise QB on average to be, and a good threshold to use in the last few years is 100 PR because that generally gets you into top 6-7.
So I'd say if Cutler can manage a 100+ PR over an entire season, then it's worth seeing if he'd be willing to accept a long term deal and move on from Tannehill.Bpk likes this. -

Is Rivers paid more or less than Tannehill?
-
Best comparison might be Kirk Cousins. 2015 and 2016 he produced (combined) close to 100 PR, was 5th and 7th in PR ranking in those years, and just signed a contract for around $24 mil. The $25+ mil barrier (average per year) has already been broken with Derek Carr and Stafford signing this year.
Age is obviously different and that might make guaranteed money less for Cutler, but average salary I'd say the best guess is around $24-$25 mil per year if indeed Cutler is thought of as a top 6-7 QB for the next few years. That's a lot more than we're paying Tannehill, and assuming such an estimate is accurate it's something that should also enter the calculus.Bpk likes this. -

Got to go by most recent signings.. like I said the inflation is absurd.Bpk likes this. -
Is there a scenario in which we make the playoffs, win a playoff game, Cutler goes over 100 QBR for the year.... and we manage to pay Cutler AND Landry, without any other significant losses?
Because I'm starting to think if Cutler stays, Landry goes. Just in terms of salary cap spending. -
Also, how does being an RFA work? Is that gone now?

It always cracks m up when people get caught up in the money. That s--t always has away of working itself out. The question should remain; is he worth it? ,,,and that's a big resounding....HELL YES? Homie deserves to get paid!! I don't care if he's the 1, 2, or 3 receiver or just a 'slot guy". He's been one of, if not the best player on the team for awhile now. I remember, at the end of the Dan Cambell season, I was so pissed and felt done with the whole team.....except for Landry. Hard to even argue this issue again. It's Jarvis, man. He balls out! Pay the man! He's earned it.

I do think some folks here are wrong though and Cutler won't push for 25M+/year on a longer deal- we all know that his situation is unique and he's not going to demand the cash of a 27 year old in his prime. Not that Cutler couldn't be great for 2-3 more seasons....I just don't think he gets that benefit of the doubt unless he collects a SB ring this year. But if that happens, then I'm pretty sure he would go out on top and be done with football- so I don't see the massive salary in any scenario.
