ooooohhh...i like this.

The Rooney Rule snippet leads me to believe that this is the reason for the interview.
Edit: Although, the Vikings have a good defense and it's because of this guy, it is a good interview. -
defense is better than it was under Tomlin so who knows.

Ah good ol Rooney rule. Possibly one of the most idiotic and useless ideas ever.
-
-
Leslie Frazier is getting the interview because he is the first black we could get down to Miami before we hire Tony Sparano this weekend.

I would be open to having Sheppard as HC or DC.

Aside that he is an assistant coach, I actually remember when he played for the Bears team that won the Super Bowl, he was a CB and wore number 21. Damn, I feel old. -
The Rooney Rule is actually a very good idea. It is not affirmative action. It doesn't require teams to hire blacks or have a certain number of black coaches on the team. It only requires that teams interview black coaches. In other words the Rooney Rule is not an entitlement, its an opportunity. Just yesterday Lebetard made a brief comment about the fact that people in charge tend to hire those that they are most familiar with (he was refering to Wayne choosing to hire Cam over Tomlin). Since mostly white folks are in charge, they tend to hire mostly other white folks. On the surface blacks and whites seem to have very little in common (no pun intended). So there would be no reason for a white boss to even consider hiring a black candidate. Unless the white boss just happen to get a chance to meet said black candidate and was very impressed by him. Thats all the Rooney Rule does. It gives black coaches a chance.
ps. If blacks folks didn't have any chance to succeed then w'ed all just become criminals and rob and kill all you white folks. -

I am surprised there is still a rooney rule.
I am a Canadian and Canada has racism too, yet you hire the best person for the job. Hey as a white guy I was a qualified cook of chinese cuisine yet could not get a job at chinese restaurants. Thats wrong, yet their loss. I dont think there should be a special rule by law for this.
For the record I use to manage a lab where I hired two vietamees, 1 chinese, 1 ethiopian, one hearing impaired person, and one other white guy. Race had nothing to do with my decisions. Best person for the job that will work well for your company. Sometimes I did not hire the most qualified person for the job, yet hired the best suited. By that I mean, a person that would butt heads with staff constantly I would not consider, must be a team player.
Maybe I am just a stupid white Canadian but I judge people on accomplishments and history, I dont make exceptions for skin color.
Sorry my little rant.
P.S. I do acknowledge in the NFL there have been more black players than white ( I dont have the stats ) and do think their should by the numbers be more black coachs, it will come in time. Also does the Rooney rule include all minorities? Where are the Samoan headcoaches? -
Guys, all these interviews as done for more than 1 purpose.....I believe that Parcells wants Sparano but we're gonna need a DC and an OC as well as some of these guys we're gonna talk to could be in the running for 1 or both of those spots....as far as the Rooney rule it is what it is.....My dad was Italian and my mom is Latin and I've never felt that I couldn't have something because of that....I'd never want to get a job base on that either....is it a stupid rule? Probably....should we hire a black coach cos he's black or cos he's the best candidate? I want whoever is gonna help us win.
Ozzy rules!! -
I think a current assisstant with another team would need to be given a promotion to be able to leave a current job they are under contract for. Lateral moves would not be allowed most likely, so its kinda HC or nothing with these guys. To get coordinators youd need to do something like what the Cowboys did with Garrett, QB coach to OC, or hire someone whos not under contract or whos contract is expiring.
