Does anyone think the chemical makeup of this team is like recent teams of the past, to trade up and be in the top 2? Miami, aside from 2013, has been a wait and see what lands in your spot team, or a team that trades down. They also made a mistake with Carroo, but we're over that (not really).
Also , what about Teddy Bridgewater?

If there is one thing I have learned watching this season? It is there are a multitude of problems and the majority of them are not the qb. If we waste our first round pick on a qb get ready for another long decade......

I don't understand why this is a discussion. Until we fix the OL, it doesn't matter who is throwing the ball. Look at the colts, they have a premiere QB, doesn't do them any good with a bum shoulder from taking to many hits.1st round OL, 2nd round LB/ DL/ OR OL, 3rd round same as second minus what you took that round. 4th and beyond BPA (QB here if it works out that way.) That 2019 Draft will be the QB year for us IMO.
-
You could trade away Tanny for at least a high second and change (a second and fifth for example) to help move up into the top three picks. Then focus the rest of the draft on fixing the OL. Start Moore for 4-6 games (till he gets hurt) and then let the rookie take over and take his lumps.
IF you drafted the right QB.
IF you fixed the OL.
IF he makes a leap from year one to year two.
THEN Miami can focus on the Defense for 2019 and we can look forward to a winning season and maybe a Wildcard spot.
Now, is that a BETTER PLAN than focusing on the OL for 2018 and depending on Tanny to make a leap running the Gase offense? I can see Tanny winning a Super Bowl with a solid team around him, but I don't know that the front office is capable of building one around him. Not so sure I want them picking another QB either.
So, my choice at this point in time is to build around Tanny for 2018, and if that fails you blow it up and start again after cleaning out the front office and coaching staff. -
OL, DL, or TE....unless Chosen Rosen is available.
I know we just drafted Harris last year but you can never have too many pass rushers and secondly I felt like pass rushers were a need before Wake was now another year older. Also, there have been good teams that completely neutralized our rush (see raiders game), and one way to solve that is get more guys who can get after it. It’s probably down the list of needs but I never believe in drafting need, it’s BPA at a position of need or just straight BPA.cuchulainn and KeyFin like this. -
I have a bit of a conspiracy theory on this one.
I think that the Phins' first round pick is set in stone. I don't think we will be moving up or down. I think we are gonna stand pat and draft the best offensive lineman available. Our line (play calling too) are holding back our entire offense. I think a bluechip offensive lineman pays immediate dividends. Putting any rookie behind our line as it stands is a horrible idea.
But here is where the conspiracy begins... This is a year that is stacked with QB prospects, and someone (maybe two) falls out of the first round. Assuming that we have a good grade on the available QBs, we draft him. As the media swarms in to create an immediate controversy, the Dolphins announce that "we drafted the number one QB on our board *wink, wink*. We were shocked that he was still available, and we couldn't pass up the opportunity. Why did we select him? Last year proved the value of having an important backup QB. Ryan Tannehill is our unquestioned starter."
In all reality, Ryan Tannehill is being given his final chance in Miami. If Tannehill comes back and builds on his last season with Gase, he solidifies his position as our franchise QB. Perhaps we go the Garrappolo route and keep our draftee for a few years as a top tier backup and eventually look to trade him and recoup a draft pick.
If Tannehill flounders, we will have our new QB of the future have a year learning the system as an understudy. Additionally, he could get some live reps at the end of the season whenever it becomes abundantly clear that Tannehill is not the answer. -
I agree we need a true franchise QB if we can get one. RT is a middle of the pack starting QB in this league and he will continue to be that. He is not an elite franchise QB.
If we are in a position to draft one I am all for it.finsfandan likes this. -

If we go QB it better be a mobile guy like Mayfield.
Those guy's have the ability to mask a bad OL, and that we have.finsfandan likes this. -

Yes of course taking a QB in the 1st round should be under serious consideration....I don't think Tannehill has proven all that much more than Bradford had at the time the Eagles traded up for Wentz despite the fact that they had just given Bradford an extension that same offseason...he was around the same age as Tannehill is now, both with high cap numbers and questions surrounding the stability of their knees, but Philly fell in love with a prospect and taking Wentz turned out to be a great decision.

I am a firm believer this city and franchise needs a player they can connect with, and with his roots being here in Miami, if he has the goods that translate to this level, and we can get him, then I believe we should take that very seriously..
haven't studied one game of his, but it seems he's getting a lot of that ''he's just a mike Vick type'' more athlete then qb perception, and that scares gms into making bad decisions..so there might be a chance of availability at a decent slot...maybe he is maybe he isn't, but the factors he presents to this city, stadium, and possibility of inspiring a new generation of dolphin fans, he's worth a strong look. -
I watched some video highlights of Jackson since several folks mentioned his name- he's an amazing player to watch. Most "experts" are expecting him to go top 20 and a few mentioned that they felt like he could go #1 overall. He's stayed in the pocket a lot more this season and that's led to more team losses, but a lot more of seeing what he can do with his arm....and it's impressive.
I've always loved running QB's but we all know that they have short lifespans in the NFL, that's why Philbin wanted Tannehill to be a pocket passer first and an athlete second. I think I'd pass on him but I wouldn't cry if we drafted him either....somebody send the kid a gas mask! -

Mayfield is your QB in this draft who's going to be a team leader and a continual inspiration to his teammates. The other QBs are talented, but not of the ilk Mayfield is in terms of leadership. -
Add these to the list of things Mayfield has apologized for this year

Speaking with reporters, Mayfield walked back his demeanor, citing what the children might think if they saw it.
Mayfield also took to his Twitter account to apologize.

Baker Mayfield is likely to issue another apology on Monday. This time, he'll be showing contrition for a crotch grab and some naughty language caught on camera during No. 4 Oklahoma's game against Kansas on Saturday.
Mayfield threw a touchdown in the third quarter to give the Sooners a 28-3 lead over the Jayhawks, and as cameras followed him to the sideline, they found him delivering a rather clear message to the Kansas bench.
Now, while I'm not exactly bothered by this -- I think of the things I said to friends while playing basketball or even just video games and realize I have no ground to stand on here -- plenty of people will be, and it's a bad look. Particularly given Mayfield's arrest over the offseason and that whole flag-planting incident following Oklahoma's victory against Ohio State.
I'm still mad about that one, by the way.

The problem for Mayfield is that, at this point, he's a clear front-runner for the Heisman Trophy, and whether you agree with the reasoning, this is just an incident that will give voters a reason to think about not voting for him.
All that said, I'll take a quarterback with Mayfield's competitive streak on my team every dang day of the week.

It seems like running QBs tend to be a flash in the pan but that can be a strength if you draft them often enough to avoid paying for mediocrity.KeyFin likes this.
