Great....get hopes up that we will get a coach like Jay Gruden.....and end up with Ireland and Philbin next year.
This sucks -
Strong interest in Jay Gruden. Pretty much his brother, only better at everything.
-
I'd like to add Bill O'Brien, Ken Whisenhunt, and Mike Pettine to this list.
-
An offense that scores all of the points. -

No thanks to both. Give me Ken Whisenhunt or Del Rio. Team needs someone with experience IMO.

Gus is under the Todd Graham coaching tree. Go Devils
-
Dolphin Don, ssmiami and ckparrothead like this.
-
Those two are my best candidates to be honest.
The problem is the more minutes pass after that game the more convinced I am that Philbin is not fired.
Hell on the pregame programs today you had Bill Cowher and Dan Marino both talking about Ron Rivera and what a coach he's turned out to be, and how if you would have jumped the gun then he'd have been fired after two years but that third year is really what it took to get him going. Well guess what Dan Marino is on Steve Ross' committees whose goals are to evaluate the Dolphins situation and figure out what to do about it.
Prior to the game you had a big endorsement from Don Shula in favor of Joe Philbin. Is he also on one of those committees? Just saying.
Around the league there's been a lot of chatter about people really respecting Joe Philbin for having the team competing for a playoff spot all the way to the end of the season despite all the shenanigans that went on with Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito. That's another thing going in Philbin's favor.
The only thing I think Philbin could do that would get him fired would be to go to bat for Mike Sherman and deliver a "if he goes, I go" ultimatum. And I think Sherman himself will step out in order to prevent Philbin having to do that...and it might be with the understanding that his son-in-law Zac Taylor is retained (even though he shouldn't be). -
I don't think Malzahn is moving.
Somebody will hire Jay but it won't be us. It's virtually certain IMHO it will be:
1) Philbin
2) The new OC's pick
OR
3) A HC/OC combo
Next year. I don't see any viable candidates in my mind for OC who have Jay Gruden ties. -
Jon Gruden is 1a for me, Gus is 1b
-
I read somewhere that Sherman was stepping down regardless and going to retire.
-
With just a mediocre offensive line and mediocre running game, this team is in the playoffs and that's how Ireland and Philbin ought to sell one more year
-
gus would have won 12 games with the team as it sits now. he actually adapts his system to fit his players ala belechick. he has led the nation in passing with tulsa and now he leads the nation in rushing with auburn. this is why i hate our coaching staff, especially sherman. talk about clueless....

ireland has had 6 years to improve the oline and running game. philbin has had to deal with ireland's inability to fix those things. it should not take a half a decade to fix these things.

The NFL is brutal. A SEC head coach who contends however is a golden god. We tried this. We got a BB-like genius. His name is Nick Saban. He went back to the SEC. Why? He's a golden god there. We don't need to go through the cycle of abuse only to see Malzahn go to Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, heck maybe even Tennessee when he finds out the NFL is hard and remembers he can be adored by millions back in the good ole SEC. -
-
saban didnt work because he didnt know how to adjust his system to fit the nfl. he 's running the exact same system now at alabama as he did here. malzahn is a totally different beast, trust me. think chip kelly X 2.
-
Dolphin Don likes this.

I think Chip Kelly went to the team with the roster that fit his philosophy best. That was never every going to be Miami.
The same will be true of Jon Gruden if he returns.
Gus has proven adaptable and could probably make the jump. -
Gus is IMHO going to bust Florida State in the mouth and win a championship. He's staying whether I want him to or not. Yes he could do it. Nick Saban could do it.
