He made a tough decision today on a player/prospect that he had more information on than anyone else by far..We all said that we would support that decision because in this very unique case he knew best..He decided the investment into that player was not as strong as some other options, and had the guts to take the risk on a better option, knowing he has a similar skillset on his own team already, and placing that money that would of been spent doubling up on a similar player, elsewhere..
Personally I'am excited about not signing the player, I didn't feel his upside was there, nor did I feel the talent displayed was enough to make me turn the other way on some college prospects that I do feel excited about,Tannehill and Weeden, and, the unexpected availability of Alex Smith, all three players are worthy competitors for our future imo, and better prospects than the new Seattle seahawk..
Lets focus on these three players, Put aside your feelings, and trust the coach that knew better than anyone.

Yeah, I am in full wait and see mode. Can't react to every move/non move. We can speculate what is going on and why or why not we did or did not sign somebody but at the end of the day there is still a long way to go before camp. I will say that Smith is an interesting FA signing and I would probably be less opposed to this then most on this board. I think that guy has turned the corner, is battle tested, and can be a leader.

You just got a guy that probably will not start for 28 million 10 guaranteed. See Pete Carroll New England Years. He's Baaacccck. The guy who had the exclusive job of developing Flynn with the most stacked team around him, passed. LOL I think that says something. Later Hawk troll....dolfan7171 and djphinfan like this. -
It is Ireland that has "FINAL" decision on personnel, not coach Philbin. My guess is Philbin wanted Flynn, but Ireland is just a ****ING IDIOT!
Does anyone seriously think coach Philbin is satisfied having only Matt Moore on the roster and not a QB he has groomed for 4 years and threw for 9 TD passes and 731 yards in two starts? This has Ireland all over it.steveincolorado, LandShark13 and PhinsRDbest like this. -
I am really starting to buy in to the idea Philbin thinks he can plug any QB in to his system and make it successful. From the looks of it, they are not going to over pay as worst case scenario, Matt Moore has the "Hidden Talent" to run his system. First year systems hardly produce superbowls. If we stay cap minded this year and install the system, we may only be a couple players away next year and have the money to put quality players in those slots...

Trade down, draft weeden, draft Stephen hill

Lol, support coach and management that are gonna be left with rejects. Brilliant. I support a organisation that can bring success to a franchise rather than persistent failure.
-
At this point with Irelands track record, I highly doubt he has full say in personnel
-
-
No franchise quality qb, no weapons for a franchise qb to throw to.... Miami is lost for another 4 years or more with this management.

-
Not sure if it was the coach, more so the gm.
-
Yeah I've never really cried over spilled milk, so no reason to start now.. Bleh.... kinda stings but I Can't wait for draft day.
-
Do you really think Flynn came to see the Dolphins at 5am to be told by Philbin that he doesn't want him? He was obviously Philbins 2nd choice after Manning and for some infuriating reason, Ireland has managed to scare him off to Seattle.

Maybe the FO and coaching staff have more faith in Matt Moore than 80% of the pundits here have had.
Possibly they had the cards in their hands all along and just wanted a FA QB at a discounted rate?
Looks like they are going after something in the draft for future use, or they will get some teams leftover when cuts begin.calphin likes this. -
Sounds like coach Philbin wanted Flynn signed to me: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...ck-after-not-getting-a-franchise-qb-last.html
Well then, why did the personnel and offensive staff spend nearly 40 hours of total tape time studying this guy, a figure I was told by a source was conservative? Otherwise, why would coach Joe Philbin be calling him throughout the free agency process to make sure Flynn knew he was a major Miami target? Otherwise why did the Dolphins immediately pivot to Flynn once they knew they'd been eliminated from the Manning derby? Otherwise why did they offer the kid a contract?

However, I don't think it would be very likely that you would risk, in the slightest, !@#$ing your boss off by screwing up your head coach right off the bat. If Philbin really thought Flynn had that much more to offer in a meaningful way as compared to other uses of the money, Flynn would be signed now. -

Don't spin it man, this was Philbins call all the way,you know that, everyone knows that, everyone knew that.dolfan7171 likes this. -

Seriously...you really think coach Philbin is going to Ireland and assigning $$$ value to players he would like to have on the team? You don't think Philbin knows what is his business and what is Ireland's?
That is Ireland's job to assign $$$ value to players, not our rookie HC. -
Hopefully this give us enough room to sign Mark Anderson now
-
I think the I portent thing to remember is that we do have a guy capable on our team. Matt Moore is a Dolphin under contract, so we don't have to live in fear. Apparently the Alex Smith interest is real, but I don't really like him, especially more than Moore.
I think we draft a guy very high, 1st or 2nd pick.
No matter what, this team is some serious need of offensive playmakers with the departure of Marshall. -
Give the new coach a chance to at least pick his QB..whatta you think no??dolfan7171 likes this. -
Let's see, Fisher who was Miami's #1 choice for HC but passed on Miami in part b/c he wasn't given "final say" on personnel moves. So Miami brings in Philbin who wasn't given final say and when asked about Manning said it isn't his job to sign him now makes it his job to sign Flynn... or should I say to not sign Flynn.
Yeah...who's spinning this?
Perhaps you missed this in previous post:
Otherwise, why would coach Joe Philbin be calling him throughout the free agency process to make sure Flynn knew he was a major Miami target? -
i fully support philbin he is the guy i wanted i think he is going to be great for this franchise i dont think he is going to be the problem the problem is going to come from the front office torpedoing the guy before he even has a chance to get off the ground
-
This is great news..dolfan7171 likes this. -
In short you guys laughed when I posted Miami is never going to get anyone ever again decent to sign with us because of Ross and Irelands clown act. Some can stick their heads in the sand but whats it say when a QB does not choose to be with the guy that was his offensive co ordinator from a very good team.
Ross got what he wanted, Jeff Ireland. I hope he is happy because the fans sure aren't anymore. He can put cardboard faces of Ireland in all the empty seats in the stadium this upcoming season.
What a clown act Joke. Sparano must be lighting candles and Thanking God he is out of here. -
And it sounds like you think Philbin called Flynn throughout FA to let him know he was a major Miami target b/c he just likes to screw with players he used to coach? Even going so far as to bring him in for a visit and offer him a low contract, even though that would be Ireland's job. And now you have decided to make a thread calling to support Philbin...
Sure, why not, let's support a coach that plays games with players lives according to your logic. Makes total sense.
