Well, back out on the ledge folks.
Personally if he brings in a OC, Qb Coach and ST Coordinator, I have no problem with this move as it is the smart play imho.

Its old news Padre....
It says Sparano staying...unless Ross changes his mind. Its a BS story to get people to to the web site...... -
Now at the very least they have to extend him a year or they are setting him up for failure. I hope they have some assurances of landing a really good OC as well.

I don't see anything smart about bringing back a guy who has received very public "no confidence" votes now from players and ownership. The message seems pretty clear. Had Ross been willing to pony up just a little more money or dump Ireland, we would have a new coach. He wasn't. But I don't think that settles the coaching situation at all. This entire year is essentially now going to be Sparano coaching to keep his job. It probably also means Ireland is fighting for his job too. Basically, there's a fair chance we'll be right back here next year, only with Ross more willing to either pay more or dump Ireland.
All that being said, sure . . . if we can bring in a solid offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, and special teams coach, we might turn things around. But even those additions, if we happen to make the right ones, are not going to change the other issues with respect to Sparano. I just have a hard time believing that this team is going to show up for OTAs and preseason with the attitude that everything is magically ok. I'd love to be proven wrong. I really would. -

Meh... bad news IMO.
I was partially OK with keeping him after the season, if we cleaned house on the offensive side. However after the franchise made it apparent that Sparano really isnt the franchise's first choice as were chatting with Harbaugh, Gruden, Cowher, just makes Sparano quite useless if you bring him back next year, with everyone in the world knowing you didn't really want him here in the first place, but you got stuck with him.
What a joke this is turning out to be.jetssuck and DolfanJake like this. -
Well say goodbye to Ricky lol
-
makes sense. there are unverified reports on 49ers message boards that Harbaugh is a done deal in san fran
-
What a slap in the face.. This is a SAD day Sparano isnt a real man either hes now a freaking *****. He should have said F-YOU im second choice and walked out, but than again this is the clown who couldn't get his team ready for practices and or games, who the team gave up on, who players openly criticized the coach.
Hes also the guy who didn't have the balls to tell offensive coordinator grandma **** pants to stop those BS wildcat drive killers or the guy who forgot how to use timeouts, or which QB to play in a particular quarter.
He's also the guy Ross placed on the hotseat for 3 days and than decided that all other available sexy names didn't want to be here and as a last ditch effort decided oh well lets just keep him.
Serioulsy ROSS you lost my respect. This coach may be a nice guy but he will not win you a superbowl. If this really is true I will not root for the Dolphins till hes gone or you are. -

Gotta question the guy reporting that if he can't even pronounce "Sparano" correctly. I think padre's right though, unless something totally unexpected happens between the 49ers and Harbaugh, sounds like Tony will be back next year.

Jim Harbaugh to Become 49ers New Head Coach
Niner Pundit | January 5, 2011 |
The search is finally over. Nothing official out of 49ers camp, but we heard from someone who was at the undiclosed location (Marriott in Burlingame) that Jed, Baalke, and Harbaugh were meeting at. The three of them and others met in one of the conference rooms. It was overheard that Jed told Harbaugh, ‘You are bringing us number 6.’ Meaning ring number 6 for the 49ers. Lots of smiles and handshakes.
Now I don’t expect everyone to believe me, which is fine. I understand. But I’m standing by my source in that the 49ers have come to terms with Jim Harbaugh and an official announcement should come soon.
I expect a press conference to be scheduled for tomorrow, introducing both Trent Baalke as GM and Jim Harbaugh as new HC.
Today is a great day in Ninerland. Now bring us #6 Jim…
He messaged me on Twitter and claimed his source was a lady bartender at the Marriott. We'll see If not

lol the source is a bartender. also MC Hammer might be saying that its a done deal. he was hooked up with crabtree so he might know something.
But overall, like I said, nothing credible yet. -

Ross is a rich man, and has also done that without your respect.
You have no idea what happened behind the scenes, what was said, or anything else. Don't pretend you do.
I am no huge fan of Sparano, but at the same time there is something to be said for continuity in times of
chaos. Henning does need to go. There's no question. I hope that happens.
not that much of a fan in the first place.late again likes this. -
Gotta think John Denney and Dan Carpenter's jobs are safe as well no?

he gets to stay in the Bay area. Again, I don't know if you've ever been to the Bay Area, but
it's one of the best places in the US to live and work if you can afford to live there, which he
can. The quality of life for what his life is, is much higher than what it would be in Miami, IMO.
Denver for that matter too. It just doesn't make any sense to me that he would walk from SF.
All the postureing is to extort an extra mil or two. -

And they are the favorites because he wouldn't have to move, because they will pay him more than anyone else, they will let him have more control than any other vacancy currently, and they are in a super weak division, which means he has a chance to be successful sooner. And about 30 other reason. -
As long as Sparano isn't involved in the decision of who to become the OC is. It is obvious that Sparano likes a conservative, outdated style of offense.

Really, from a business standpoint, which has to be considered since Ross is the owner what is the point of keeping a coach that plays for field goals? Obviously, it doesn't put butts in the seats. Ross is trying to turn the Dolphins not only into winners, but also entertaining to watch. How entertaining is it when the HC and OC have the same philosophy that as soon as the team gets into "long-distance" field goal range call plays that are safe, but end the drive...otherwise known as the "dead zone."
