PFF news: "Seahawks flew to Denver in failed attempt to get Manning meeting."
If this were Miami, the media would've ripped us to shreds over such a move. Wait, never mind. :glare:
It's ridiculous how Miami's cross country flight in the hopes of landing Harbaugh was viewed as an embarrassing act of desperation, but when Seattle performs the same action and also fails, it changes to "But it wasn't because the Seahawks didn't try." :pity:

Yeah I agree. It's getting to be a bit much. How many articles are saying we missed on Flynn, and then we missed on Alex smith? We didn't miss on either of them, we just aren't willing to pay them.
Any other team the media would say "they're being smart and not overpaying for low quality or unknowns"
What we get "no one wants to play for them"ToddsPhins likes this. -
Based on the teams record over the last three years and the salaries these players have been paid, an argument could be made that this is the most overpaid team in the entire NFL.Aquafin likes this. -
Or Miami is indeed inept. Is it so hard to fathom that a 20-28 team is badly run that we think every piece of information is a "media vendetta"? To me it's seems a little far fetched.

Secondly, I don't buy for a second you don't talk to one coach while you have another, but even if you don't do that in the NFL, it is done in the business world where Ross is from. So fine, Ross made a rookie mistake being a rookie owner, so what? The most important part of that is Ross (and probably Ireland) recognized Harbaugh would be a good coach.ToddsPhins, fin13, DOLPHAN1 and 2 others like this. -
Secondly, Ross/Ireland were universally ripped for talking to Harbaugh while Sparano was still the coach. Universally. Not because "the media hates Miami". Because Ross/Ireland are idiots who don't know what they're doing. Add the stupid double search for a new coach, one headed by Ireland and the other by Peterson, and the Dolphins leadership DESERVE to be bashed.
Don't blame the media. Its an easy cop-out. It prevents you from seeing the fact that this team is a mess. -
As for the Harbaugh thing, did you read what I wrote? I ask because you didn't address a single point I brought up about it. -
Is this really what it's come down to around here? We're going to blame the fans and the media for the state of the Miami Dolphins, but defend Ireland till blue in the face? Ok. Have fun with that.

Team X & Team Y were never going to get QB 1.
The media blasts Team X, even though they somehow scored at least an interview but the media doesn't blast Team Y.
What's the difference in this specific case? Team X was considered a favorite to get QB 1. Who considered Team X to be a favorite? The media.
Basically what we're looking at here is the media creates an unrealistic hype, then blasts a team for not living up to the made up hype. That is absolutely not fair. Actually, that is absolutely wrong. The only reason more people aren't mad at the media for this is because it made Ireland look worse. But there is just no way...no way...any being rational and honest can say what the media is doing is ok.siciliansith, xer0, smahtaz and 6 others like this. -
I'd rather look at the facts and see that the players are talented. The coaching, however, has been atrocious. I've asked this question before ( I received no answer, SHOCKER) "Do you, or anyone else, think that Bill Belichick wouldn't have this team in the playoffs most years?"Fin D likes this. -

The "media" is a reflection of the fans. The dolphin fanbase is the drama club of the NFL. Cowherd had good things to say about Dolphins and the Flynn/Smith situation and not one post. We love our histrionics.

I agree we never had the chance at Peyton the media painted. But the reason Peyton Manning didn't come here is most likely due to the perception of Steven Ross and Jeff Ireland around the league.GARDENHEAD likes this. -

They aren't treating us like they did Seattle, or Arizona, or Tennessee, or the 49ers, opr anyone else. We are being blasted for things that happened to 31 other teams all because the media themselves created a scenario.
You are so close, to seeing this.....
We don't know why Peyton didn't come here. It could be because of our record. It could be he views us and every other AFC East team as rivals since we all used to be. Or it could be Ross/Ireland. None of us know yet. Either way, that is irrelevant to how we are being portrayed in the media. The problem with that is, the louder the din from the fans is in response to the media, the more they are going to do it, because it sells papers, gets views, etc.
We are feeding the monster that is treating us unfairly by buying into it.ToddsPhins and DOLPHAN1 like this. -

That is a clear effort to right the wrongs of the Parcells era.
But hey, whatever. The media has the right. I'll remember your defense of the media the next time they blast the Heat for no good reason.ToddsPhins and Bulldog like this. -

This organization (Dolphins) is arrogant for no apparent reason, and think they know everything. Even the mainstay of that organization, Harvey Greene is a dweeb. -
They are still not doing enough. Look at the Marlins and Heat. Look at the access they offer. It is almost TOO MUCH. -
What more can they do right now? Tell the media their entire plan?ToddsPhins likes this. -

of course, the Hate is getting a little ridiculous. it has a life of it's own.
But Jeff Ireland's reputation in this town is ****. You can't find anybody to say a nice thing about him personally.Phins28 likes this. -
Then yesterday on NFL Network, former Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter blew up Ireland on national television. He blamed the Dolphins inability to close on, say, Peyton Manning and Flynn on Ireland.
"I think Jeff Ireland has a big part to do with it," Porter said. "I don't think when you come in being recruited by him, you totally believe things coming out of his mouth. I think he's a guy that's not trustworthy. He really doesn't hold up to what a GM's supposed to be."
Well, I really don't think Porter holds up to what a man is supposed to be. Porter is a great guy to have on a team when things are good. But as soon as things go bad, he becomes part of the problem. And as soon as he's no longer getting his way or is out of contract, he bites the hand that feeds him. He previously blew up Cam Cameron. He previously blew up Tony Sparano. He previously blew up Mike Tomlin.
The guy has a history for ripping people that either cut him, let him go in free agency, or stood up to him. So while you don't have to dismiss his criticism, at least understand where it originates.
By the way, this idea that Miami can't land anyone is getting on my nerves. No, they didn't get Harbaugh. No, they didn't land Fisher. No, they didn't get Manning. Which one of those was Ireland responsible for?
Manning, of course.
Well, the Dolphins didn't get Manning. And neither did San Francisco, Arizona, or Tennessee. The Jets, Kansas City, and Seattle all have good to outstanding GMs. None of them could even get a meeting with Manning. So Ireland is a bad guy because the Dolphins swung and missed on Peyton Manning?
I am talking to the folks who are thinking for themselves. Break down the moves on their own merit. Tell me what you would have done. Tell me where you would depart from the current course.
Be fair.
Obviously, Ireland hasn't gotten all his moves right in the past. By the way, no one does. And the pressure is on him to land some, you know, actual stars this offseason because the Dolphins don't have any of those.
He might do that. He might not. But I'm not ready to say this guy is the devil for blowing it when we're only one week into free agency and the draft is on the horizon. I don't judge a team's gameday performance in the second quarter.
I wait until the game's over.

I also think that from a national perspective, miami fans are looked at like a fanbase that doesn't support their teams like they should..So the criticism comes from an angle of unlikeability..ToddsPhins and Section126 like this. -
