Can't disagree about that, Ginn doesn't have that explosion, so naturally if he gets Bumped you can take him out of a play because he doesn't have that burst. I still think Ginn can be a great WR, he isn't a possession guy he is a pure deep threat. I think he would be better with Henne at QB, Pennington lacks that arm strength to throw it deep to a Ted Ginn.

 

Which is why need to get better at beating bump and run coverage. Which is a coaching thing.

 

You could have the best coaches in all of football but if a receiver doesn't have "it" then all that coaching would be for naught.

 

Ginn was recruited as a Corner then converted WR at Ohio ST, believe me you can coach the kid.

Pior to the first game of the season everyone is saying "oh man ginn looks great blah blah blah" now...this...I guess it could be predicted.

Dont give up on the kid just yet. He has a lot to learn, and I think he will do just fine. Does everyone forget this kid making plays last year? Sure he wasnt spectacular but he showed flashes. Come on...we still have a lot left to watch of this Teddy Ginn fellow. :up:

Lets give him a year, (at LEAST) to show us what he can do. If he doesn't show anything, then we can call him a bust. :knucks:

 

Personally... I know this opinion isnt widely shared, and isnt ready and willing to be discussed around here, but I really think that if Ginn has a disappointing season this year, he may not be on the roster come next year. If he is... its definately not as the #1 WR...

I know he's raw, and needs alot of coaching, and were only one game in... but he really hasnt shown much yet. I wish he would. Id love for him to be a superstar... but im starting to wonder about him. Im giving him this year for sure.. im not willing to bail on him just yet... but I think he definately needs to show major improvement getting off the line, and getting open... if not... his days are definately numbered with this regime.

 

When all is said and done, I think Ginn is going to turn into a tremendous threat as a #2 WR and a return man. I definitely hope it's with us.

I just don't think he's ever going to be a pure #1 guy. He may never develop the consistent route-running skill necessary to be a QB's favorite target. I think his hands are underrated. The guy catches practically everything thrown his way. There's no problem there that I can see.

Next year, we're going to see a big-time shakeup at WR. Davone Bess is the only wideout that I can honestly say will definitely be on this roster at this time next year.

 

All of this talk is nonsense. If its week 4 and we still havent seen anything from Ginn, I'm still not concerned. It doesnt make sense for a young offense too take a bunch of risky downfield passes. Thats not helpful to our defense at all. Whether its complete or not, our defense gets less rest for every deep pass we attempt. Our best hope for winning is to control the clock with intemediate style plays. Very similar to Arizona. Ginn hasn't struggled over the middle of late.

Also, I guarantee that as Fasano shows the league that he is serious, defenses will start accounting for him with more than a linebacker with safety help. They're gonna have to start manning up a safety, or stop blitzing on 3rd downs. More attention for Fasano means more room and time for Ginn to get open.

It's too easy to watch one game and jump to conclusions. I think that since people have seen Beck flounder his opportunity, they immediately lump Ginn in with him. Ginn is Ginn. He is not Brady Quinn, and he is not the other half of John Beck. He is very talented athelte who came into the league with raw WR skills. One year later, we expect instant expresso. Sorry guys, Steve Smith wasn't built in a day either. He was primarily a return man for his first 2 seasons. Then he learned to translate that raw talent into a lighting quick wrecking ball of fury. Ginn has bulked up over the past year. I still think that Ginn is either the next Terrell Owens, or the next Steve Smith. Once he gets a bulky frame, he's gonna pop some people in the mouth with his play. Mostly the people on this site that insist on continuing these countless threads about one game.

 

I think Ginn is just very raw. I don't think he was worth where we drafted him but I think with time and good coaching he'll be a very solid wide receiver. He's just not going to be a superstar. I feel that eventually the lights will come on for Ginn and he'll be a solid contributer. I've never felt the same about Beck. I don't know why. I think by the end of the year Ginn will have respectable numbers and that we'll be glad we had him. this teams needs all the weapons it can get.

 

From what Ive seen I think Ginn can turn into a very solid #2 receiver that stretches the field with his speed. He is not the #1 type of playmaking receiver like Randy Moss, Chad Johnson or Terrell Owens but there is nothing Ive seen from him at this point that makes me believe he cant develop into a solid #2. Still early in his career guys. He's improving year to year and thats all that can be asked from him at this stage. By next year we'll know what we have.

 

Maybe they should move him back to corner then, because he looks God awful at WR. Isn't Ginn a guy who grew up with football? Because if that's the case, and he played WR at OSU, and now he's in his second year with the Fins- he should know how to play WR by now. The situation being a "coaching thing" sounds like a cop-out to me. More like an intelligence thing, learning disability thing, and lack of instincts for the game thing. And, not to forget, a strength thing since he still seems to have problems breaking off the line. Who would have thought, after putting on a whopping 5 lbs. of muscle in the off season.

And what's with the kick returning duties? His punt returns, or should I say attempted punt returns, spoke for themselves, and why isn't he returning kickoffs? He lacks initial quickness but has great speed once he gets going- sounds like a kickoff return man to me, not a punt return man. He obviously has talent as a KR, but so far he's no Hester, Parrish, or Cribbs, that's for sure.

 

Th upside with Ginn is that he can be converted to CB if he never gets it as a WR .In fact one of our most respected posters on here insists thats his best position .

 

In all honesty, I never really liked the pick. I wasnt pulling for Brady Quinn either, although I wouldve been more comfortable with that pick than a kick returner with little WR credentials. Sure he made some plays at Ohio State, but that offense is what enabled him to do so. Miami has needed to address the foundations of the team for quite awhile, a specialist is not what the team needed at that time. Ted Ginn is a player you draft when youre team is already stacked. We all know we have been far from that. The fact that we couldve grabbed Okoye to replace Taylor, or Willis to replace Thomas, or Joe Staley, irks me. Whats done is done, and hopefully Ginn finds his niche and Sparano/Henning can find a role for him, even if its just on special teams.

 

For every Steve Smith, there was a Terrance Wilkins, Antonie Randal-El, Kordell Stewart, Dante Hall, what do they all have in common? They never developed fully into a WR. Picking a specialist when youre team doesnt have any solid foundation is stupid, no matter how much talent Ginn has, in retrospect. Its too dangerous to gamble on athletic freaks while neglecting the OL, DL, the secondary, the altogether aging defense, and the one position the team has failed to figure out to this day, the QB. This is the difference with Parcells. Succeed or fail, we at least are going about building the team the right way, and thats not betting the house on talented but unskilled players.

 

He could not cut it at Corner at the NFL level.

 

CT, with all due respect, it's been a loooooong time since Ginn played CB. If he can't handle the CBs in the league, he's going to have a damned hard time with the WRs who are much bigger nowadays.

 

Chris Gamble is a great example of that. He played both at OSU. Now he is one of the best corners in the game.

 

i agree. if people are questioning his burst and cuts, what would make anyone think he has the recovery speed to make plays as a defender. Ginn's skill is his ability to make people miss, and take defenders sideline to sideline chasing him. Using Ginn effectively at WR can go a long way towards tiring a defense down. It's not fun chasing someone 50-60 yards just to keep them from getting a first down. But anyway, I just dont think Ginn would make a good defender. He's not a chaser, hes an eluder.
