I give the Jets credit but come on D had they not gotten such a lucky break getting both the Colts and Bengals, who both had given up at the end of last year, they would have lost to the Colts and beat the Bengals meaning 8-8 and no playoffs. You can simply base that off of how the Jets performed against both the Colts and Bengals in the playoffs when both teams we're actually trying. I'd argue that if you switched the Jets schedule with Miami's in the last two games and Miami would have made the playoffs (although I think we would have lost to the Chargers). Also if you switched the Jets and Pats playoff opponents last year I think you would have seen the Ravens beat the Jets and the Pats advance to the AFC Championship game. Essentially I am saying the Jets ran into some good luck last year down the stretch and are being overrated as a result.
Just think, Ryan had given up on his team and was in tears with just 3 weeks left in the season. I say the Pats are still the team to beat in the AFC East with the Fins and Jets nipping at their heels with the Jets being slightly better than Miami (I love the Jets defense and their addition of Holmes this offseason and also like what Sanchez was doing down the stretch last year). Honestly no more that 2 points should separate Miami and Jets in these rankings. Once again I love the Jets defense and think they are a playoff team but I still think they have several questions as well. I'm not seeing them as the 4th best team in the NFL. Minnesota, Dallas, New England, and San Diego are all ahead of them IMO and I may even throw the Packers and Steelers in there. I'd have the Jets in the 10-12 range and Miami somewhere between 14-16. So see I am giving the Jets respect but not going overboard like a lot of people are over some inflated stats. :D
