Coming into this year, my main concern with Ryan Tannehill was his reputation for not coming through when his team is down in the fourth quarter.
The draft pundits brought it up. And I hoped to see it disproven this season.
Thus far, however, it seems to be true. And that automatically puts Ryan's ceiling, in my eyes, at a B-Tier of Quarterback.

I didn't think he would play the entire season and if he did, my hope was that he proved he could learn from his mistakes.

Lets cut him. Heck lets get rid of everyone we ever hire or draft that isn't a Hall of Famer after 8 games.

In the game tying FG against the Jets Tannehill was 1 for his last 6 passes for 0 yards. Miami got into position due to a PI call on a pass that was high to Bess and didn't look catchable and a run by Thomas. But I guess if 1-6, 0 yards is all there is...
He did have a nice long pass to Hartline in OT, but the offense got stuck from there. Carpenter has been anything but stellar from beyond 45...had Tannehill got Miami to the 20-25 yard line then that would have been a quality drive imo, but really was jut one quality pass/catch. Hardly makes a drive. Even Ryan Leaf had a quality pass from time to time.azfinfanmang and Bpk like this. -

I see some of my pre draft concerns in his game now, but, he's getting nothing from his team..I watched the kid play well two weeks ago so i'am not gonna bring that sh&$ up cause he deserves two years of support from my end.
I don't want to see the guy I wanted to draft come in here next week and show anyone up. -
It's up to Ryan to prove his reputation wrong. Thus far, he hasn't.
He is better than Henne. But he's not looking like an elite tier QB.
And some of that has to do with a certain personality. Montana magic. Brady, Manning, Elway, elite determination to come up biggest when it matters most.
I'm not saying to flush the kid. He'll improve... But his skills will improve, his personality and leadership character are unlikely to morph unless he has a major life event shake him up.
He's looking like one of those guys who'll put up good numbers for you, but not going to put the team on his back with two minutes to go in a big game and will them to victory.
I was kind of hoping that was in him.... And more than once out of every five or six opportunities.Califin, azfinfanmang and RGF like this. -
I understand your not making final judgements or anything, but really, any judgement at all at his point premature. Eli sucked for years before he became "ELIte Manning," Drew Brees had numerous struggles, etc... Even Peyton was ****ted on most of his career before his defense carried him through the playoffs and won him a SB. Tannehill shouldn't even be starting in the NFL considering the inexperience he has at QB...
Rookie QB with limited playing time at the hardest position in sports and has a terrible surrounding cast. In fact, he has led the team to three game winning opportunities. Two against NYJ and one against Arizona (where he was forced to through 30 yard go routes to Hartline after driving them down field, lol wut?). The team was playing much better then than now. So there's that difference.
Tannehill seems like a pretty even keeled, cool customer. Doesn't seem to get rattled in big moments. Not scared to throw. That's a pretty good personality for a QB to have, amirite? Unfortunately he plays for the Miami Dolphins. And the Miami Dolphins absolutely suck. I don't think any of these "comeback" opportunities and failures mean a damn thing given the state of the offense and the severe lack of talent we have. Seriously. one of the least talented offenses in the NFL. Too many issues with this team to make anything other than half baked judgements about him.
I'll be more concerned when we actually fix the offense and these things continue to happen, after 1-2 more years of starting experience. Until then, meh. Rookie QB gunna rookie QB.
EDIT: And I'd like to point out that Tanny's game winning drive opportunity was an 84 yard drive, no time outs, and after some big throws, forced into 2nd and 20 because of pass int against Hartline... Is that really all that shocking that he didn't come through? Come on now... Tom Brady is a GOAT. And he's not even 50/50 to win in a scenario like that... -
we should be talking about the players around him, Bush? and the running game Martin and Jake? OL where is our TE.
Receivers where did Hartline go, and our D what happened.
During the off season we were all wondering about the lack of talent and now RT gets the blame for the poor level of play around him.
Bring Luck to this team and see what he does, ask yourself if any of the top rooks were playing in Miami how well would they do. -
Peyton Manning had a rep as a guy who couldn't pull it out in the clutch too. Until he did.
In the first year, 10 games into it, I am not worried about the fact that the kid missed three or four chances for a come from behind win. He's a rookie. I don't know too many who were singlehandedly putting 4th quarter comebacks up on the board right away.
His 'clutchness' will improve as does the rest of his game. A positive we can see now though, back when we were winning, is the confidence and attitude to sling it out there if he needed too. He had the swagger that you need. Now that he's playing poorly and the team around him is playing poorly too, he no longer has it, but again, that should come back with some more success as a team and some more time to get used to, and comfortable in, different situations. -
No QB in the NFL could be successful in this offense with it's skill players. Not Brady. Not Manning. Not Brees. Not Rodgers. Not anyone.
I haven't seen anything to be alarmed about from Ryan. I still feel like he's playing generally well in most situations. The issue is that our skill position players are terrible. -

And, of those quarterbacks, the one this year is a rookie while Chad Pennington had been in the league seven years going into that 2008 season. That's not fair comparison. Which I would argue leads back to that it's telling that the talent level on offense is pretty much equivalent to what it was in 2008. A seven year veteran can make that work to some degree - and being fair, Miami barely beat a lot of bad teams (some of whom are on the schedule this year as well, not counting the AFC East opponents, and are markedly better). A rookie is clearly going to struggle, and those struggles have been magnified due to the talent around him, especially when that talent is arguably at the same level as it was four years ago. -
That's it. I'm done. I sincerely hate our fans.
I'm gonna go ahead and say it...I no longer blame Saban for leaving. A lot of you are effing ridiculous.eltos_lightfoot and MAFishFan like this. -
Things could change as he develops. As it stands, I wouldn't expect many 4th quarter comebacks from him.
And maybe that's as it should be. -

It just doesn't seem that Jeff Ireland did a good job of putting pieces around Ryan Tannehill if he in fact was his be-all, end-all plan in terms of getting a quarterback. I think you could say that same thing if Matt Moore or David Garrard wound up getting the starting job as well. Moore and Marshall were very in tune and David Garrard didn't play the previous season. I think myself, and many others, view that as an ineffective way to put together a roster. If it's accepted that the talent level on offense, not including quarterback, is essentially the same as it was four years ago, and the plan all along was to bring in a rookie, wouldn't you try to upgrade his weapons? -
