With an interesting point, Armando S. of the Herald points out that it's basically impossible for the Dolphins to fill all their roster spots in the draft, and that what it looks like is that the Dolphins will be adding most of the new players this year as undrafted free agents.
"How do I know this?
Well, it really is a matter of simple math.
Today, you see, the Dolphins have 58 players on their roster, according to the team’s own website. That’s not a lot. That is actually the lowest number of any team in the AFC East.
The Buffalo Bills have 79 players on their roster as of this writing.
The New York Jets have 74 players on their roster as of this writing.
And the New England Patriots have 65 players on their roster, again, as of this writing.
That means the Dolphins have a lot of work to do to get to the 90-man roster limit all NFL teams can carry into training camp. The Dolphins need to add 32 more players before they open training camp in late July.
And how exactly are they going to do that?
Well, the draft isn’t going to do it for Miami. The Dolphins may be hoping for an epic draft, an all-time draft even. But the team currently has only seven picks scheduled for the entire draft.
So unless general manager Chris Grier goes absolutely bonkers trading back throughout the coming draft in an effort to increase his number of picks -- at the expense of the quality of the picks -- he’s going to struggle to come out of the process with more than 10-12 picks...
...
That means after the draft is over, the Dolphins could be adding as many as 25 undrafted free agents.
TWENTY-FIVE.
Said another way, the Dolphins might go to training camp in July with 31 percent of their roster made up of rookie undrafted free agents.
So, you better believe owner Stephen Ross was not kidding when he said last week his 2019 team was going to favor youth.
“It’s going to be a young team and I want to see it grow,” he said. “You know, at the end of their season I’m sure it’ll be a better team than when it started. Because there’s going to be a lot of young ballplayers that are going to have meaningful positions. And then we’ll know what the following year we’ll have to bring in to replace them. Hopefully we make the right decisions up front.”
These percentages and numbers are stunning. Last year, by comparison, the Dolphins added 13 undrafted free agents after the draft. And that was a sizable number."

At least we know we suck before the season even starts. No fake tannehill hype. Another long painfull season coming it feels.

If we all accept this season isnt about the playoffs we can have some good debates evaluating a lot of the young talent.mbsinmisc, Mafioso, Hooligan and 1 other person like this. -
It's going to be an ugly season. Make plans with your family on Sundays this winter.

It looks like a lead-up to a "Major League" type scenario. If the coaching staff is decent and chemistry develops it could be a fun season. No pressure on anybody.

Anyhow, I'm up in the air even knowing I'll have the chance to order Sunday Ticket for a few extra bucks. I'm not sure it's worth the $15/wk I'd pay.
Is it worth paying $15/wk to watch Ryan Fitzpatrick lead a partially-rebuilt roster?
Is it worth $15/wk to see if Charles Harris, Mike Gesicki or DeVante Parker develop into anything?
Is it worth $15/wk to watch the team burn a year with otherwise useful players like: Kenyan Drake, Jakeem Grant and Laremy Tunsil?
Is it even worth $15/wk to give up my Sunday afternoons for Miami football at all?KeyFin likes this. -
Wow, great fans on this thread - I assume you all realize that only 53 are the full squad, so even if we only add 4 decent draft picks & 2 or 3 UDFA's, we've still got more than enough. We know it's going to not be a great year but they are still are team. I don't have access to DirecTV but will be subscribing to GamePass again this year to watch them develop as a team.

Luckily my Alma Mater is Clemson so I get more than enough quality football with them alone. I'm happy to let the Fins sit in the background for awhile as they get their act together. -

Not watching the games, and not attending the games, is disrespectful to the players. It's not their fault the team is being assembled as it is for it's apparent purpose. I have no problem paying for Sunday Ticket and rooting for them to win and prove everyone wrong. Even though I know that's bad for draft position. Lol

I'll just be excited to not see the bubble screen run 10 times or more a game, and the ball run on 3rd and long. :D
But seriously... perhaps the most interesting thing this season will be the newness. We'll get a chance to see what sort of football Flores and co. put on the field. We'll see how the players respond, see what sort of attitude they bring to the field, especially if it does become obvious they're facing a tough season.
I'll be excited to see if the offensive and defensive lines show some solid cohesion and can take/generate pressure.
And last but not least, I'll be excited to take a look the new players we pick up, and to see current players return - Grant, McMillan, Drake, Minkah, even Parker (Can he finally make it happen?) Etc. -

These days, between the team having been poor for so long and me getting older, married and with kids, I dont have that emotional crush that lingers like that anymore. If they get better again though, maybe it will.mbsinmisc likes this. -

I am more excited about this team, with a new coaching staff, a full complement of draft picks, and a plan to build the foundation than the last 10 years of "just patch the roof, it might not rain tomorrow". If they draft DL/OL, play hard and are coached well I will be truly excited about the direction of the Phins for the first time in a long while.

I sat through the 76ers rebuild. Showing up either through audio or on League pass for at least 80% of the games during their dark ages. I can sit through this too I guess. The difference is we still have extremely talented players on this team whereas the 76ers did not. I get it...Two totally different sports.
