6-7 260 lbs.
Guy is an absolute wrecking ball with super violent hands and a big base. Haven't seen a lot of bend but I haven't watched all of the tape yet. I believe Ronin mentioned him in the mains earlier this year. Definitely intrigued.
Keep an eye out for him at the Senior Bowl. He kind of reminds me of a tall James Harrison.

However, he gets caught up on TEs and RBs sometimes (you can see it in that Baylor tape), but good coaching can teach him how to use his length to be more effective. I also haven't seen much speed rush, and sort of a lack of a repertoire in general. He might be a bit stiff (6-7 guys usually are). He must learn to play lower, he often plays high and kind of neutralizes his own height. He's got short area quickness but he's not super fast in the open field, a lot like Charles Harris.
He's got first round traits but he's a bit raw, I think. I don't know if I'd pick him at 11 over certain guys. I think he would be a luxury pick for teams in the back half of the first round, so he might make a better trade down target.
Let me know I'm looking at him wrong. -
It'd be great to move back in the round and add a pick, then take him, but we don't have that kind of luck. We'd move and the team that took 11 would take him.invid likes this. -
This is what I'd like to see for the first three rounds, though it's early and they'll probably be rated to go higher by then.
Trade 1-10 to Buffalo for for 1-21 and 2-21
1-21 Marcus Davenport, Edge (We need another pass rusher)
2-10 Isiah Winn, G (Perfect zone blocking LG for us)
2-21 Deshon Elliot, FS (Ball Hawking FS, lets McDonald move to Hybrid, coverage problems solved)
3-10 DALLAS GOEDERT, TE -

We could be saying the same things about Fumagalli that we do about Andrews if he had a top-10 pick at quarterback. -
With 4 high picks I'm just trying to address the 3 major needs: G, true FS to solve coverage problems, TE, while pretending to do BPA at #1 to get the DE/Edge I want.
Derwin James would be my pick if we stayed put at #11. But then you almost have to go best OL at 211, and by that time edge/DE is pretty depleted. I have two true FS I can grab in third round (not the hybrid because that will be Mcdonald) Elliot and Reid. Unless you have a Derwin James sleeper for me.
Wouldn't Jones basically be the same player as Drake? I think Scarbough at 4-11 or 4-28 compliments Drake better. -

Looking at TE’s I worry about awareness, level of competition, blocking with regards to Goedert. I’d really like more picks because I’d like 1 of Andrews, Fumagali, Ian Thomas or Giesecki and then come back late with one from Chris Herndon, Dimitri Flowers or Jeb Blazevich.
Jones is, to me, a better RB prospect then Barkley. I love him. He’s tough, he runs inside, he takes the 3 yards gains and falls forward every time while showing good speed and agility. I see him going day 2. He’s similar size wise but different type of runner then Drake. Scarborough could be ok late as could Royce Freeman. Also like Mark Walton a lot.
I want a QB or DE or Ol at 11. I like James but he’s not needed imo. Nor do I care for tweener types who could be a safety, Cb or Lb. Pick a position. It’s jack of all trades, master of none syndrome from where I sit -

he's listed at 6'4 250, if he runs under 4.8, he would be Fasanos replacement...good find bud.Last edited: Jan 18, 2018ToddPhin likes this. -
man, trying to figure out Marcus davenport is not easy for me...its like a bit of jeckyl and Hyde.
almost like his body, on one half {the upper body}, he's strong and violent and uses his upper body strength to his advantage all the time, his pop on contact is really good, and he uses the strength in his hands well.
his lower body is built Thin, especially his calves, and it scares the crap out of me...against better competition I see him lose leverage, I see everything become less violent...Last edited: Jan 27, 2018 -
He had a nice Thursday practice, along with a nice showing in the actual game today. It may be earlier in week he was thinking to much, and trying to process all the new coaching/techniques and etc....
One thing i did notice was once he started rushing in a 2 point stance on Thursday and on gameday, you could tell he was more comfortable doing that, and was pretty much unblockable.ckparrothead likes this. -
He struggled early on, especially in 1-on-1's. He admitted after the first day that the OLs got the better of him. Onlookers who had only seen him at UTSA against poor competition were disappointed. That became the narrative.
First impressions, unfortunately, have a way of sticking with people, and then they fail to update those impressions with new information.
The new information was that as the week of practice got on, he got better, and by the END of the week, during team drills he had 2 sacks and 1 hurry, which is 3 pressures on 24 pass rush snaps, and no other defensive player on either squad had more than one sack in team drills. His final numbers in the 1-on-1's were 8 snaps, 3 of which he "won" according to the PFF analysts compiling the data off the coach tape of practice.
On balance, he had a good week. But that's not what you hear people like DJ and others say when they talk about Davenport's week of practice. Not even after he killed it during the game itself.
Because like I said, that first impression sticks, and people don't update their first impressions with new information.invid, zatrex99 and Dol-Fan Dupree like this. -

I want to like the guy, I've said that its a bit jecklyl and Hyde and not an easy eval for me..
there is a consistent thing that happened with him in college, he dominates lesser competition and doesn't with better..
I worry about that and I worry about his lower body build..
I also don't see def end as the priority on this team..
so for those reasons I said I'm put at 11.
if he's the next Demarcus ware then I missed, but there's to many risks from personally to take at 11...I want safe.. -
I've watched a lot of his reps to say what I did, of course its all fluent, the combine is big for me.. -

I think he just offers too much to pass up at 11. I don't even care if he needs some coaching, there's too many physical traits on tape that make it worth the dice roll. I don't even think it's that much of a gamble, really. FO just needs to figure out his attitude and work ethic, and whether or not he's going to continually learn. Senior Bowl, like Rafael noted, was a great example of him settling in and improving in a foreign environment. People keep talking about his stance. I don't care what stance he's in. If he's more comfy standing up, then let him stand up more his first couple years.
I also don't care if his best tape was against North Texas. He's ****ing imposing. A couple snaps into that game and nobody can block him, and the bigger takeaway is, nobody seems to want to block him. You know the opposing linemen we're probably like, "God damn it. Here we go again."
That's the kind of tone-setting I want on defense, at a position that can absolutely wreck games. I would be fine with him at 11, and I think in a year or two we might see the best tandem of pass-rushers we've had since OV and Wake.ckparrothead likes this. -

I don't care who you are, if you come from a small school and are suddenly asked to play a different style (fingers in the dirt and at DT), against top competition, then I expect there to be an initial adjustment period. This narrative that Davenport is a failure or disappointment b/c it took him longer than 2 days to overcome some resistance is pretty silly to me. It was TWO DAYS.... not two months.

It’s good that he improved and played well in the game.. let the evaluation continue, may change my mind..
Invid brought up a good point about the dogfight in him..
