I strongly feel that the passing game is the Dolphins biggest weakness. We don't have enough talent at WR, TE or CB. If I had my way I'd spend all 5 first round picks at those positions. So reading reviews and news stories and looking at youtube clips I'm really liking Marcus Wheaton.
He is FAST. And not just straight line speed. He's shifty. The great thing about Davone Bess is that he's very nimble and can kill you underneath with his agility. He's relatively slow though. Wheaton is very fast, nimble like Bess and with good vision. He reminds me a bit of Reggie Bush actually. Depending on which article you read he's anywhere from 5'11 to 6'1. He's not a huge red zone target but is a super deep threat. I like him enough that I would be comfortable picking him at #12. He would immediately make our offensive so much better that he's worth the pick. He would take pressure off of Hartline and Bess and would give Tannehill a great target. Wheaton could be the big play machine we need.
Here's the problem. Ireland is not going to draft him. Actually I don't think that Ireland will draft any WR or TE in the first 2 rounds. If you look at all the drafts since Ireland has been here he hasn't drafted a TE or WR in the first 2 round once. Based on previous history I expect our first pick to be either a DE, DT or OL guy. He might draft a WR in the second round if a first round talent is available but even then if a good CB prospect is available he'll probably go that route. Ireland seems risk adverse to drafting pass catchers high and our offense shows it. We simply don't have a lot of firepower in the passing game.
So I'd LOVE for us to take a chance on Cordarelle Patterson or Keenan Allen or Marcus Wheaton. We need talent and this is the draft to get it.

As an aside... I don't know if you've seen it, but, there's an NFL Draft Forum page here on this site... if you haven't seen it yet, check it out. There's lots of great info there from lots of great posters. -
I'm watching the Senior Bowl now and the little that I've seen of Wheaton looks really good. I hope he's there in the second round and more importantly that Ireland will take him if he's there. Honestly I have little faith that he would do so no matter how much value he would add to the team.

The first 5 picks should include either 2 WRs or one each TE and WR, IMO. -

I have trusted Philbin's judgement so far, but this would be a head-scratcher. I mean he was the TIGHT ENDS coach at Iowa for gosh sake. He is also the one who realized Eric Steinbach, a TE, would make a good Guard. If he can't evaluate a tight end's total inability to block anyone then wtf!?
Or maybe this falls into the category of overconfidence in his ability to coach and develop a TE. -
