On a serious note, this is a potential game changer for the NFL. I would imagine that Goodell is not a happy camper. Much easier to ignore with 2nd tier players. The all time greatest QB suing the league may have long term ramifications.
I'm also surprised that this move came on the same day he was getting publicity for visiting Jim Kelly in the hospital.Larry Little and Da 'Fins like this. -
The NFL has had a pretty bad record about what it has done with concussions over the years. There have been much safer helmets that are reasonable available, yet the league have allowed continued use of the old, much less safe helmets for a long time. The NFL are in for a world of financial pain with the concussions.
Also now that a first ballot HOFer is in on the legal action the NFL cannot continue to pretend that there is nothing to see.\
Full kudos to Dan for being brave enough to do this, because he's going to get a s%$tstorm of bad publicity about this.GARDENHEAD, dolphindebby and Two Tacos like this. -

He is out of a job .If Ross had offered him one he probably would not resort to this lawsuit.

Could be a selfish move. But, could also really help players. The more tier 1 players that do this the better for the rest.
But, I don't remember many concussions suffered by Marino - he was so rarely touched. But, it is possible he had several and it just went unreported. Does anyone have any info on Dan's concussions?
If some big time names really had a really great case for a suit, I think it would be Steve Young and Troy Aikman. Their careers were ostensibly damaged by concussions and I can't imagine there will not be some long term impact on their lives from this (though both seem to be very sharp intellectually - Aikman is at the very top among color commentators). -

Does the nfl prevent players from wearing the most protective gear available or do players choose what they wear?

Pretty good article here about it.

I also remember this move that Bobby Humphrey (I think) made that left me thinking that we finally had a RB to go with Marino. That was not exactly true...

I wonder why Miami cant get former players hired on at espn I would have liked for Marino to have not been fired or I would have liked Marino to get hired on with another network.

I was a big fan of Marino when he was a player, but I have no respect for him or any of the other past players who have filed lawsuits against the NFL for injuries they now claim were related to playing in the NFL.
The game of football is a violent game. If you play long enough, you are going to have injuries and concussions. That is just part of the job, which NFL players are well compensated for. I hope the NFL fights this lawsuit and prevails in the court room.
Aikman and Young obviously won't be joining any lawsuit against the NFL at this time because they are still making a very good living working on NFL broadcasts during the NFL season. Marino waited until he was fired from CBS and had no other job offers before filing his suit. I have to wonder if he would be involved in this lawsuit if he was still working at CBS. I guess he figured he needs the money to help fill the void created when he lost that muti-million dollars position with CBS. -

Everybody hates lawyers and lawsuits....until something horrible happens to them and the party responsible for such horribeness won't own up to it.
-
Wow, this is bizarre considering Marino was just trying to score a job with the same entity he is now suing. Just another black-eye on Marino's post-NFL career.

Who knew football was dangerous? I guess the paychecks blind you to that fact.
Maybe someone should give him a cigarette. -

Just had an alert that says Marino is going to withdraw his concussion suit. Wonder how much that has to do with his potential front office job?

According to a source, Marino, 52, and his lawyers will be in discussions to withdraw from the lawsuit that was filed in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia.
“It was never Marino’s intention to initiate litigation in this case, but to ensure that in the event he had adverse health consequences down the road, he would be covered with health benefits. They are working to correct the error,” a source said to the Sun-Sentinel.
Marino and his lawyers are attempting to discover how Marino’s name was joined to the lawsuit. Marino has said in the past he had two reported concussions during his 17-year career.
If that is the case, then how in the heck did his name get on it to begin with? -
Well, at least Danny kept his previous Dolphins job longer than he kept his lawsuit, lol.
At the end of the day, who cares? If Ross believes he is qualified for the job he wants to give him it shouldn't matter whether or not he is one of 16 names on a lawsuit that is going to be merged with an already settled case anyway. -

It's really not that difficult to imagine. Marino retained the law firm that is handling the wider law suit because he wanted to make sure that he could file for some of the awarded damages at a later date should he experience symptoms related to the concussions. That was part of the NFL's settlement in the case (the settlement which now may be thrown out because a judge believes it's not enough). The settlement was structured so that even if you weren't part of the original group of plaintiffs you could file to be added in for a piece of the settlement if you end up experiencing concussion related symptoms. Several other players probably did the same thing. The law firm decided to just blanket add those players to the suit and that appears to have been a mistake.

Something was bothering me about this story .It seems incongruent to me that Marino would be hired by Ross on the one hand while in effect Marino was bringing a lawsuit on him at the same time.
Well it turns out that Marino is withdrawing his lawsuit.

Now I really believe Marino will be hired by the Dolphin org
