This kid clearly has something special. He may not have played a whole lot, but everytime he's been given an opportunity, he puts together a complete game. I don't think he's simply a system QB, I think he has the talent and ability to be a starting QB in the NFL. Kolb was never a special QB to me, and I don't think its fair to compare Flynn and Kolb, they're not the same QB. Same system, but different skill set. Now that we have Philbin, I'm all on board with signing Flynn. Let's get this team scoring some freakin' TDs!

Matt Moore is better than Kevin Kolb, no argument there...and better than Matt Flynn too.

Kolb seems to suffer from Andy Reid syndrome. Symptoms include crappy mechanics and a lack of whatever the hell it is that Reid does to get them to produce in an Eagles uniform.
Hard to compare Kolb to Flynn since both have such few pass attempts and obviously played on different teams. On the lack of pass attempts (and thus production) alone, I wouldn't give Flynn a ton of money if that is the route we choose to go with. You can say the same thing about rookie QBs. And until now you would have kind of a legit point. But without knowing the data, I'd guess your odds of getting a good QB were better if you drafted a guy in the first round compared to signing a free agent with a similar lack of experience.
It seems to have worked out ok for the Texans with Schaub. But looking at his production in Atlanta it was even worse and a smaller sample size than Kolb and Flynn. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is a lot of uncertainty here. If you are going to give a ton of money to a very unproven player you better be damn sure that what you see in practice is impressive and will carry over when given the starting job.dolfan7171 and FinSane like this. -

I'd be curious to see a competition between Flynn and Moore. In a new system that Flynn is more comfortable with I would think he would have an edge. Flynn seems a very obvious target for the new coaching staff, I like Moore as a backup but he isn't the long term answer as a starter. I think Flynn and Moore would give us two guys that can play though and thats more than we've had here in ages.

I do think Matt Flynn is much better than Kolb (I don't think very highly of Kolb), but I don't believe there is enough tape to say whether he's better than Moore.
Could he be? Sure. But I'll let Joe Philbin and his staff ultimately decide that... he's the one who spent years watching him.mbsinmisc likes this. -
I don't see a problem going into this season with both Moore and flynn. Let them camp battle and use our picks on other positions

If Flynn is signed, he's starting...it's that simple. Moore will have to settle for being second string. Personally, if we do get Flynn, I still want us to draft a QB in the second round, possibly third, depending on who falls.

but, seriously, we have to take into consideration the new offense being implemented. Do we think Moore is better than Flynn in the Green Bay offense?
I'd like the gurus to give their opinions. -

I would imagine though that if the Dolphins decide to go after Flynn in free agency and sign him to the sixty million dollar contract he is said to be seeking in free agency. He certainly will not be sitting on the bench as Moore's backup next season.
I feel that Moore is a high quality backup in the NFL and someone who can step in and play effectively against the other mediocre teams in the NFL. I do not feel that he is the QB this team needs to become a legitimate playoff caliber team going forward. Flynn is obviously a huge question mark because of his limited experience in the NFL, but I imagine Philbin will have a lot of input into whether the Dolphins go after Flynn in free agency or not.
I would rather see Luck or RG3 as the teams future QB, but that is probably highly unlikely and with the Dolphins under pressure to win," now". I have to believe that after hiring Philbin from the Packers, if he tells Ross that Flynn is the QB he wants, Ross will likely make ever attempt to sign Flynn once the free agency period begins. -
None of us know if flynn is the real or not but if anybody has a clue its philbin. He has seen this guy practice everyday for the last 3 years so if he they do target flynn that means to me he is the best choice to lead this team in the future.I personally like what I have seen from the kid and hope they do go after him.

I bet my house that Ross, Ireland, and Philbin already had this conversation. I am sure they asked Joe what his plan is at QB, and if they hired him, than they obviously like it and back it...So more than likely, they know who our QB is going to be next season, and how we are going to get him...

Can you say "AJ Feeley" ?? EVeryone remember that guy ?? Prove to us that he's not AJ Feeley, coming off of a couple of games in the same system. Sure, everyone can say "He's not Feeley, that was a guy that never did anything other than be good in a particular system." But if you do, you're really describing Flynn right now...MrClean and steveincolorado like this. -

b) If they do, can we offer more than say, Cleveland or some other team might for his services ??
c) Does he want to come here ??
d) Does he want to go wherever Tom Clements, his position coach, goes to ??
e) If Clements stays in GB, does Flynn want to leave ??
f) Does Philbin really think he's more than a flash in the pan ??
Do you REALLY think that they've planned a path that gets Flynn here in his coaching interview ?? Was it discussed, sure, but really ?? What if Philbin's plan in his interview for a QB was to use Moore ?? There is no way they KNOW who our QB is going to be at this point...that is Madden thinking not reality...
Is it possible, absolutely. Is is a lock at this point...not a chance...MrClean likes this. -

I have to think that if Ross and Ireland had enough confidence in Philbin to pick him as the Dolphins head coach. They should certainly have the confidence to sign Flynn if this is the QB Philbin wants as the starting QB next year. Of course there is always the possibility that Philbin has seen things in Flynn that he doesn't like and would rather not recommend him to Ross and Ireland. Whatever QB is picked in the draft or signed in free agency to be the Dolphins starter in the future is going to be the QB that Philbin is going to be judged by, just as Sparano was judged by the play of Henne. I doubt seriously that Philbin would ask Ross to spend the money necessary to sign Flynn unless he feels confident Flynn is the QB he wants to risk his head coaching position on.
I guess we will all have to wait and see how the Flynn situation works out over the next few months and whether he is the QB Philbin wants to lead the team next year and beyond. -
As someone who used to work in management for years, every interview I went on the higher ups would always ask "what is your plan to accomplish xyz..." We would have to be silly to think Philbin wasn't asked this question in his interview, and obviously they liked his answer. This is what I mean, there is some idea (know might have been a bad choice of words), of what the plan is. I take some comfort in knowing whatever the move is, it has already been discussed, and Ross more than likely approves of it. I never said it was Flynn, for all we know it could be trying to sign Manning. -

It has been reported that he is looking for a salary in the sixty million dollar range over the next five years. Do you seriously think that the Packers are going to pay him anywhere near this salary so he can stand on the sideline waiting for Rodgers to get hurt? Flynn will most definitely be playing for another NFL team next season. The real question now is, which NFL team will he be playing for? -
Green Bay has gone one record as saying that Flynn will not be tagged.

I think we may be setting ourselves up for another disappointment in thinking that Philbin=Flynn....reality doesn't always work that way... -
Larryfinfan 17-0...Priceless Club Member
EDIT: Sorry, didn't read your entire post...yeah I'm sure there is a plan, I'm sure they (Ross, Ireland, Philbin) have all agreed what direction they should head. And if I misinterpreted Flynn for [insert name here] qb, I apologize. There is so much chatter with Philbin hire that thinking that Flynn is a lock to come here is really setting some up for disappointment....not to mention whether or not his backup gig stats mean that much... -
I have no idea where he will be playing next year, but I would be willing to bet a very large sum of money that he will not still be a member of the Green Bay Packers. -

I have no problem paying Matt Flynn if he comes available in free agency (let's not forget the Packers are seriously considering tagging Flynn and trying to get a high draft pick out of another team - if that happens I don't think the Dolphins can afford to give up the draft picks).
But, if Flynn is out there, I think we should get him. There simply is no way to tell if Moore is better than Flynn in the offense Philbin will bring in. But, if Moore beats him out - I don't really care what we are paying the backup. The fact is, you need good QB play and if competition brings it out - great. Unless you have the Ravens or the 49ers D, you are going to have to have great QBing (even with those D's you have to have very solid QB play as Alex Smith has brought to the niners of late).
So, I think we have to go after Flynn. Moore was decent but there's no guarantee he'll be anything more than a Fiedler when the season gets on the line. That Flynn beat out Brohm early on; that he's been solid as a backup; that he's performed exceptionally well when called on; and that he knows this offense inside out are all significant factors.
If Flynn competes and turns Moore into a bonafide top 10 starting QB - I'll be fine with his contract. -
Philbin was brought in with Flynn in mind. PERIOD. Matt Moore is not a starting NFL QB, we will see if Flynn is.
-
-
The Dolphins have far too many needs on the team to pay Flynn the type of money he will demand on the open market, and then watch him stand on the sideline with Matt Moore as the starting QB of the Dolphins.
I don't have any idea if Flynn will be a member of the Miami Dolphins next season, but one thing I am sure of is, if he is a QB on the Dolphins, he will be the starting QB and not a backup to Matt Moore. -
Flynn has shown success in the system that Philbin uses ... nuff said there.
Moore will have to learn said system -- gives Flynn an initial advantage.
PHI QBs have simply not performed outside of that environment -- period ... take your pick.
Should Flynn come here ... would easily project him as the starter .... Moore is a capable guy that will be nice to have as a back-up, should Flynn not succeed. I was not in favor of trading for Flynn last year, but i am 'all in' on signing him as a FA this year -- but not at 12 MIL per, 8-10 'ok' .... maybe an 8 - 10 - 12 -14 structure with additional incentives.
