Former Padres announcer looking forward to job with MLB Network
Matt Vasgersian made it clear: He would rather live in La Jolla than Manhattan. But sometimes it's more complicated than that.
Which is why Vasgersian is leaving Channel 4 San Diego for a job as MLB Network's first studio host. The Major League Baseball-owned network, which will be based in Secaucus, N.J., just outside New York, will launch Jan. 1 in approximately 50 million cable and satellite homes.

Vasgersian is the most underrated play-by-play guy in Baseball. Ive always wondered why he wasn't doing EPSN, TBS, or Fox National games. Good for him.

Never heard of him but if he spares us from having to listen to Buck Martinez, Joe Morgan or Chip Carrey I'm all for it.

His accent has nothing to do with the fact that he was clueless and rambled on about nonsense for 3 weeks. Hey maybe he had a bad month but listening to him made me miss Buck and McCarver and that says a lot.

I agree with Rocky he's not his dad and never will be, but I watched him in the playoffs and thought he was fine.
It was also probably a little emotional to call his first playoffs after the death of his father. -
Maybe it's not Carrey's fault since he's use to NL teams, I don't know and maybe he is better with Brave games but I didn't feel like he had any business doing play by play in the playoffs. On the flip side I thought when Ron Darling was put in the booth with them, he made them better but again I felt both guys just rambled and continued to talk over each other (especially Buck).
