Dez is an elite talent and, IMO, he's not going to be available by the time we're on the clock. I've already come to terms with that fact, so as to avoid the inevitable disappointment come draft day.

That said, I'm still taken back whenever I see a draft "debate" between Dolfans over Bryant or McClain. Its no contest.

 

Who is going to take him?

It's easy to say that he's not going to be on the board when Miami picks, but it is completely different to say who in the top 10 is going to take him.

Three things. First, he hasn't played in a while and is reportedly out of shape at this point. Second, he has hired an agent that is notorious for having his clients hold out. It is the same agent Michael Crabtree has that held him out till October. Third, he has the proverbial DIVA personality that the nut jobs at WR have. This guy could be another Terrell Owens in the making. Who is going to risk a top 10 pick on that kind of attitude.

Personaly, I think he will be there, and if it were me, I'd pass on him.

 

IMO bro if he's there at 12 you grab him. As with you am a little scared of his agent and the fact that he hasn't played in a while but the kid is special. :knucks:

 

Passing on a top 5 talent at a core position of need is rarely smart. I also think the diva stuff is exaggerated. If he's there then the Dolphins would be foolish to pass on him.

 

Exactly, I do hope he is off the board when we pick at #12 as dolphins fans tend to be borderline neurotic when it comes to Wr prospects.

 

I agree. Miami will be able to get someone in the third round that has the ability to be as good as Dez Bryant in the long run.

 

Of course, because the odds of a 3rd rounder being better than a top 5 talent happens all the time :pity:
This is a very very below average year for WR's.
There is only one other I would consider being a solid top-notch talent.

 

The wide receiver talent in this draft is much deeper than, let's say, the inside linebacker talent. There are several receivers in this draft that could end up being starters in the NFL. Two guys I have my eyes on as potential 3rd round picks that could be this year's versions of Brandon Marshall and Mike Sims-Walker are South Florida's Carlton Mitchell and Connecticut's Marcus Easley. I also think Syracuse's Mike Williams may be around in the third round area, and if he hadn't quit the Syracuse football team this past season, he might just be higher rated than Dez Bryant. If not, he would be close and would be a legit first round pick.

At inside linebacker, outside of Rolando McClain and Brandon Spikes, there is no one in this draft that I see as a starter in his rookie year, and maybe one or two guys who could start in a 3-4 defense in the long run.

 

This reminds me of last year when Davis had the same issues as Bryant. He had an attitude and was considered a risk. The rest is history.

 

So finding someone as productive as Bryant in the 3rd is reasonable, but finding someone that can do what McClain does somewhere after the first isn't? Don't mean to put words in your mouth, just trying to clarify that's where you stand.

 

I would venture to guess that all the people who will be selected in the first round have a "DIVA" attitude. I'm sure all throughout college they have been given special privileges because they are athletes.

 

I know this doesn't mean much, but he was at the ESPN skille competition with Marty Gilyard and another WR draft hopefuls, and he looked pretty damn lean. He was by far the best WR there, and he showed it.

This was only last month. Again, this was a simple skills comp., but he looked like a beast.

He is clearly the superior WR in this years draft, and there isn't anybody even remotely close to having his traits and abilities.

There is a reason that guys get taken in the 1st round and others get taken in the 3rd or whatever other round. It does not always workout but... I think you all get my point.

I was trying to point out how rediculous it seems to me to assume that one can get comparable talent to Bryant in the 3rd round on one hand, but on the other hand we MUST NOT pass on someone like McClain because his talent is just too rare. I think the exact opposite it true. Finding linebackers whose only requirement is insinct and always being around the ball is not nearly as hard as finding a WR with a combiation of speed, acceleration, ball skills, toughness, etc.

That being said, if there was a ray lewis, pat willis, jon vilma type LB I would much prefer him over ANY WR.

 

And the reason is...NFL talent evaluators are engaged in an inexact science.

Not true. Crazier things have happened, like Davis falling to us. Anything can happen on draft day.

 

Like Bryant being drafted at say...#7...sounds good to me, yep, long gone, nothing to see there...

 

The browns aren't going to pick Dez Bryant. They spent two second round picks on Wide Receivers last year. I can see them picking Joe Haden, but not Dez Bryant.

 

It is possible. I do think it is very improbable.
