Burnett would be acceptable but not fantastic, IMO. Anything's better than Tim Dobbins or Stephen Cooper though.

 

Sidegrade at first. Possible upgrade if he stays healthy and learns the defense. It's probably on Dansby to wear the green sticker now.

 

Numbers wise he's AT LEAST a tiny bit better than crowder so i suppose its an upgrade

 

Injury wise he is as well

Dolphins have started talking contract numbers w/ LB Kevin Burnett. Source says timing of Crowder's departure "wasn't a coincidence."

 

I suppose I can live with this experiment. I believe there was a downgrade in overall defensive play when Crowder was injured. Some people say he was all mouth and otherwise a very average inside linebacker. We'll see.
I wonder who will be more expensive, Crowder or Burnett?

I thought Crowder was a solid player. He just couldn't make many big plays. If Burnett is just as solid but can make a few more big plays, it's an upgrade.

 

Crowder is an enigma...he can do everything, but doesn't always do everything, sometimes due to injury, sometimes to laziness and sometimes he just isn't good enough...however, he's not a major liability either... Burnett is a slight upgrade provided he can stay healthy, at least he's a bit more even in all phases of his game than Crowder is. Wonder if Crowder would be interested in coming back as a backup ??? Doubtful, but one can hope...

On paper it looks like a pretty decent upgrade.

Crowder had 72 tackles in the past 2 years and 2.5 sacks, 3 FF, 1 INT for his whole career.

But in reality, our front seven is damn frigging good right now. If our secondary can hold onto half the damn INTs they drop, our defense will be close to elite

 

As Volin pointed out, Burnett had more big plays last season than Crowder had in his career. I think that's the selling point here. They want sacks and turnovers.

 

me like, i already wanted him when he was a FA with the cowboys and signed with san diego, i think boomer also wanted him back then, don´t how he feels about it now

 

Here's some PFF info on Burnett, based on last year. For 3-4 ILB, he was rated #20 overall, #5 pass rush, #25 run, and #37 coverage on 924 snaps. He also missed 11 tackles, #6 worst.

For a better idea vs the run, Jets D Harris was #24, and Pats J Mayo was #26. Crowder was #10, 510 snaps, and 2 missed tackles, also was better in coverage.

Edit- 50 ILB, who played at least 25% of snaps were listed.

 

I just read 20 pages off a charger fan website, they really don't want to lose him, they think he's a very smart, athletic linebacker with excellent coverage skills, and a very solid tackler, can also rush the passer from the inside, and has played on the inside in the 34 his whole career....

I liked him comin out of college..

They really feel he deserves to get paid..Hes looking for 5 mill a year..

Man do I want that position upgraded, our freakin defense would be so sick.

 

Agreed , sacks , turnovers and big plays . Plays that make a difference . I think they do too.

When he was with Dallas, Burnett was a nickel LB, so apparently they thought back then he was pretty good in coverage. As an all around player you don't have sub for in so many coverage packages as you do with Crowder, then I'd say a healthy Burnett is a big upgrade.
