I'm well off the Sparano bandwagon, but with the labor uncertainty, it can make sense. I wouldn't really consider keeping him if we can get Cowher, but as long as Henning is gone I can live with one final hurrah for Sparano. If Henning also returns ....

Yeah I agree, really most of the offensive coaching staff could be turned over along with special teams. Just have to find the right guy for the job and I think you may have just named that guy off. Look how huge the Nolan signing ended up being, I think the right OC could do the same thing.

I'm just soooo tired of watching the boring offense we have had for the past 10+ years. Running game and clock management. Wanny did it, Saban did it, Cameron did it, and Sparano/Henning did it.

Unless we're getting a veteran QB this move makes no sense. They have to be on a playoffs or bust string and Icannot imagine any sane human being betting his future employment on the golden arm of Chad Henne.

This also means you can stop scouting Gabbert, Newton and Mallett. No time for a 1st round qb for this regime. Maybe Luck won't come out and we can get the #1 pick in2012

Signing Palmer is the kind of move I thought we weren't going to be making anymore. Short term, not building a dynasty.

I'ts kinda of difficult to see how you can lose to 3 of the worst teams in the NFL, AT HOME with your season on the line, 3 years on the job, and keep your job...

Chad Henne is toast ya'll..If anyone thinks Sparano is gonna let it ride with that dude, in this kind of evaluation year, i would disagree with you...I wouldn't do it..

 

Thing with Palmer, or even Orton, is they are both youngish Qb's, CP is 31, Orton 28, which would mean 3 yrs of reasonable service from them either way, but I am of the view that you cannot have one of those Qb's and Henne on the roster, which is why imho Henne will be traded and the big "reset" button pushed.

 

There's no reason to trade Henne, and we wouldn't get anything worthwhile anyways. If we traded him (assuming we got Palmer or Orton), we'd have to find a back-up. Why waste the resources on a back up when that could just as easily be Henne.

 

Sparano is part of the problem keeping him ensures we keep the problems we have. Hes the head coach and he allowed Henning, Lee, and the Special teams mess to develop.

If he stays we regress once again.

Because we then would have to take a Qb early in the draft as well, if you use the #16 on a Qb, and land one of those two Qb's where would Henne fit? How would the young Qb develop?

 

I find it highly unlikely (even more unlikely than the proposition of trading Henne; which I find significantly unlikely) that we would sign Orton/Palmer and draft a QB at #16.

I think Palmer goes for a #3 pick, and we trade back from #16 and pick up the #2 pick we lost and take a Qb either later in the draft 25-32 or in the second rd, bringing in a veteran Qb can only be seen as an capitulation on Chad Henne.

 

Ok, now I definitely don't agree at all. We're not sending a top 3 (round) pick out for a QB and drafting a QB in the 1st 3 rounds.

 

I'm torn on this. It means that we get to keep a guy that the players apparently love and we maintain some continuity in the front office. On the downside though, Sparano isn't that great of a head coach and it means that we won't have a shot at seeing what Harbaugh can do (if he was ever possibly in the plans to begin with).

 

Guys, thats fine with me but Nolan will be gone. I started a thread about it a few days ago and got no response. The reality of the situation is Nolan most likely will be a head coach next year. We have no real way of salvaging the defense and reloading the offense. Catch 22 situation.
