Yes, you read that title right. If you read it right.
On Inside the NFL, Michael Lombardi has said that Bill Parcells has convinced Stephen Ross to retain Sparano as head coach for the 2011 season. Because only Sparano was mentioned, I’m assuming that only Sparano’s job was in jeopardy. Thus Jeff Ireland also remains GM.

I'm ok with this decision as long as Henning is done.

The big question is the fate of David Lee. Ideally, we’d get both a new OC (not named David Lee) and a new QB coach (also not named David Lee)., MarinePhinFan, DolfanJake and 1 other person like this. -
I'm well off the Sparano bandwagon, but with the labor uncertainty, it can make sense. I wouldn't really consider keeping him if we can get Cowher, but as long as Henning is gone I can live with one final hurrah for Sparano. If Henning also returns ....

I believe David Lee is bye-bye.
This is great news! This made my night. Thank you again Mr. Parcells. -

He also said that was the case today and that things could change.
If true we have a lame duck regime looking for an OC and god knows how many other coaches while having no QB.
Sounds like a Super Bowl season to me! -

I'm just soooo tired of watching the boring offense we have had for the past 10+ years. Running game and clock management. Wanny did it, Saban did it, Cameron did it, and Sparano/Henning did it.

Yeah, I like Sparano and if we can get a new OC and QB coach then I think that would be best for our struggling offense.

Unless we're getting a veteran QB this move makes no sense. They have to be on a playoffs or bust string and Icannot imagine any sane human being betting his future employment on the golden arm of Chad Henne.
This also means you can stop scouting Gabbert, Newton and Mallett. No time for a 1st round qb for this regime. Maybe Luck won't come out and we can get the #1 pick in2012 -

Pennington and Thigpen are free agents. Ireland didn’t want to re-sign Pennington to begin with, and now he definitely won’t. Thigpen has not made a compelling case to stay, and he’ll probably try to pursue a starting job (or the promise of a QB competition) elsewhere.PhinGeneral likes this. -
What was untrue about what I wrote?
If you were on a one year deal and your future employment depended on making the playoffs in that one year why would you concern yourself with the future of the franchise? You just need to survivegunn34 and adamprez2003 like this. -
For those who clamoured fo Bil Cowher, what sort of offense do people think he ran in Pittsburgh?
Hint, it was not the Spread.late again likes this. -
I'm fine with it as long as Henning is long gone.. hoping for Kubiak as OC if he is fired, and I'm pretty confident that we could get Chad Pennington as QB Coach

I'm not against it but it's a short term move -

I'ts kinda of difficult to see how you can lose to 3 of the worst teams in the NFL, AT HOME with your season on the line, 3 years on the job, and keep your job...
Chad Henne is toast ya'll..If anyone thinks Sparano is gonna let it ride with that dude, in this kind of evaluation year, i would disagree with you...I wouldn't do it..DolfanJake, schmolioot, Tin Indian and 1 other person like this. -

I know being 1-7 at home is pathetic, but there IS a lot to like about Sparano. First of all, we are one of the most disciplined teams in the league. And you can't discount the passion and sincere love he has for the players. It's crystal clear that the players believe in him and love playing for him. That's something we haven't had in a long time. No reason to give up on him.

Sparano is part of the problem keeping him ensures we keep the problems we have. Hes the head coach and he allowed Henning, Lee, and the Special teams mess to develop.
If he stays we regress once again.DolfanJake likes this. -

I'm torn on this. It means that we get to keep a guy that the players apparently love and we maintain some continuity in the front office. On the downside though, Sparano isn't that great of a head coach and it means that we won't have a shot at seeing what Harbaugh can do (if he was ever possibly in the plans to begin with).
-
Guys, thats fine with me but Nolan will be gone. I started a thread about it a few days ago and got no response. The reality of the situation is Nolan most likely will be a head coach next year. We have no real way of salvaging the defense and reloading the offense. Catch 22 situation.

The biggest problem is getting a quarterback. As usual.
