Greg Jennings and Kenny Stills aren't looking too hot, so it looks like there will be room on a team that runs predominantly 3 WR sets.

 

It wasn't a smart pick. There were teams that picked directly ahead of us that needed a WR worse than we did and they all passed for a reason.

 

Jennings got old, Stills was always a 3rd-4th WR, so I think when Parker is ready he can man the other side.

 

They arent looking too hot because theyre in the dolphins... Where talent meets the roadblock created by Philbin.. greg had a fine season last year in the Vikings and so did stills in the saints..

I said it four weeks ago, i doubt we will see much of any of Parker this season. Philbin doesnt know what to do with talent.

 

Matthews and Landry are the only WR's performing at this time. Stills seems like a wasted draft pick,which the Dolphins sent to the Saints in the trade for Stills and Jennings looks to be showing his age.

There should be plenty of opportunities for Parker as the third WR once the coaching staff realizes he was drafted in the first round for a reason and Stills and Jennings don't deserve to be playing in front of him during the games.

Of course with this coaching staff, they may never come to that realization during the 2015 season. Hopefully the new head coach and the new offensive coordinator next year will utilize Parker more effectively.

Kenny Stills is proving to be about as useless as I thought he would in this offense, so there's where Parker steps in if he's ready to make an impact.

 

It is the QB, not the receivers. He just won't even think about a deep pass.

Here is my gripe here. We got tannehill a weapon, but the biggest problem directly affects our ability to utilize parker. The oline is hot garbage, tanny has a ton of weapons, but the inability of the oline to pass protect negates what could be a strength(wr corps).

Why do the Dolphins not use their players they picked in the first round?

Arnt first rounders supposed to be good enough to make an impact as a starter in the NFL. First it was Dion Jordan who we didn't use and wasted a number 3 pick and now its the receiver Parker who won't be used.

 

They said after the draft that we had Devante Parker ranked #8 overall. They had to pick him at #14 if that was true. Although I wasn't thrilled when we did draft him. I wanted Todd Gurley. Yeah I've said that several times too Ronnie. LOL

 

What do you mean we aren't utilizing Parker? I saw him run a crossing pattern 3 yards past the line of scrimmage. We took it really easy on him earlier because he was hurt. Now we can take our dynamic receiver and run him right into the teeth of opposing teams defenses.

 

Well, our coaching staff seems to be fairly obtuse.

 

I'm not going to defend this coaching staff but three out of our last five(James, Tannehill, Pouncey) 1st rounders have started or played extensively. The two that haven't were Jordan(complete bust) and Parker who is coming off a major surgery. I have no problem with them bringing him back in slowly considering the depth and talent we have at that position considering his injury.

 

I don't think we're thinking about this the right way. Parker only saw one snap in week 1. Yesterday he had at least 2 snaps - and one catch! That's at least a 50% improvement from Week 1! I mean, Philbin even commented on how good Parker looked in practice this week.

I think we can safely extrapolate out from here - I would expect to see him get 3 snaps next week, 4 snaps in Week 4, etc. etc. So that means we're looking at least 16 snaps for him by the end of the season. It makes total sense too - I would much rather we continue to trot out the shell of what used to be Greg Jennings as opposed to our rookie first round pick.

 

Parker played 17 snaps per Barry Jackson:

 

Trade Parker for a 1st. We need all the help we can get in the next draft. And we're pretty stacked at receiver, especially with the emergence of Jarvis. We can afford to lose him and draft OL or LB.

 

Well you have to earn playing time, unless you're Dallas Thomas, other than that you have to earn playing time. I don't think our WR corps is really an issue right now.

 

Why would we trade him now? We drafted him to be our #1 WR.

People's expectations are/were too high, and recent exceptional WR classes have been part of it. Making the college-NFL jump at WR usually involves a pretty steep learning curve, especially when you miss nearly all of training camp. Last year's ridiculous class has everyone banging the table for immediate impact when that just isn't the norm.

Even before his injury, Parker's game needed work. His footwork and route running are not strengths, so he doesn't get consistent separation, which is a bigger issue in the NFL obviously. He wasn't as NFL-ready as his draft slot would suggest, imo. He was always going to be primarily a redzone piece in year one, while maybe getting a little work in other situations.

His lack of snaps is pretty much what I expected - though if the redzone issues continue you have to get him into those packages. I think they're handling him fine.

 

Yes, he will make an impact. It is a good idea to let his foot heal more with limited playing time. Be patient.

 

Nah, Parker will eventually play...I think Landry, Matthews, and Parker will be our top three wide receivers by seasons end with Jennings and Stills providing depth. Obviously we are too deep at the position which brings up the other question about why we didn't select an offensive lineman with our first pick...or better yet, why didn't we trade for a lineman instead of trading for Kenny Stills? Logan Mankins was available and he's doing fine in Tampa Bay so far. So many what ifs....It's a shame that Stills hasn't produced since joining us, but I think at this point you have to roll with Matthews and Landry as the main guys with Parker steadily integrating himself in the offense. Ultimately Parker and Landry are the two most talented offensive players we have on this team. Rishard Matthews has an undeniable rapport with Ryan Tannehill at this point, so I expect him to get a lot of looks from here on out. Of course injuries do happen, and I don't expect all of our wide receivers to stay completely healthy all season long.
To answer the question though, I think we can all expect Parkers usage to go up as the season moves along. Maybe not quite as dramatic as it was with Landry last year, but we can expect a steady climb with Parker. By week 8 he'll be a viable weapon in our offense. I figure by then he'll have made up for lost time and be ready to let his talent show.

 

Stacked? Jennings is not going to be here next year and Mathews will most likely move on to another team.

Why does anyone assume Matthews will be on another team? If he plays like this all season, he may just get the upgraded contract he wants.

 

Stop using commonsense and reason. We lost a game this week, its time to trade or fire everyone.

 

The kid misses the entire pre-season. He has barely gotten his feet wet. This staff takes the slow and steady approach. Almost always have. He is not too far removed from a foot surgery. Let the kid get his reps and garner an understanding of the system a bit. I think he'll be fine. I like the way Matthews has come along.

 

Among several snafus, the Jennings drop really pissed me off. Killer.

Why? We have Stills, Landry and Parker. How much do you think we should pay Matthews if he plays like this all season? He'll get much more money elsewhere like Cleveland.

 

That's how I feel everytime I lose in fantasy. I group text everyone "my whole team is on the block!"

 

If Landry and Mathews are getting it done they can wait awhile and ease him in the line up.
Let's focus on the lines on both sides of the ball first.
