Any time you're at the top of the draft (1-10), you're there because you have SEVERAL problems. Not just one position in need of upgrades, multiple. But when you have a chance at drafting a potential FRANCHISE quarterback, you take him. It doesn't matter how many positions you have issues on, you take the guy that will win you games and will make you relevant. The Patriots haven't had an elite defense in YEARS, though I agree they haven't been no where near as dominant as they were when they did have one, but they still have a guy named Brady, and that's why they WIN and remain relevant. Same goes with the Colts when they have a healthy Manning, they win despite their defense.
That's what franchise quarterbacks do. They win. Elite quarterbacks brings an elite offense with them that keeps the defense on the sidelines because they don't often 3 and out. Rarely do you see Brady or Manning blame the defense for their loss, that's because they aren't relying on anything but themselves to bring wins on gamedays.
So enough with this Luck doesn't play Safety, or right tackle or guard or what ever. Luck brings potential greatness factor at the most important position in the game. We might miss out on the guy, but there is still 2 very, VERY good prospects in Barkley and Landry that continue to be underrated because of how gifted Luck is. Those two other quarterbacks also have the potential to lift an NFL franchise off the ground. The Luck prospect is so good, Newton would have fell off the Top 10 of the draft had Luck declared, and look at Newton now, he's doing great and proving a lot of doubters wrong, me being one of the many doubters.

Luck has one of the best lines in the FBS, I believe they were rated #2 last season overall. He has all day to throw, rarely gets any pressure. He would be KILLED by our line.
-
Brady hardly has the best offensive line in football, we made it look like he did but he doesn't. Nor does Peyton which is why he's having neck issues because he gets knocked on his *** so often. Those are just excuses and Luck is gifted and smart enough to make the adjustment. Not everyone has the best line in football, the smart quarterbacks survive and the mediocre ones struggle.
Henne sacks himself more than any quarterback I've seen, though I guess I saw a bit of Henne in Rivers today as he sacked himself twice from my count. -
Come on dude, everybody knows the Pats have had one of the best lines in the NFL for years. That's common knowledge. It all starts with the line, that's why Parcells took Long.

Did you see how much time Rivers had today??? He barely had any pressure the whole game.

Why can't we have Luck and a great O-Line? We want a complete team, that's how you win a Super Bowl. We have Jake Long (who will be healthier in 2012) and Mike Pouncey, if we get some solid players with them the O-Line should be much better. QB is still more important anyway. Look at the Colts. They have a pretty good O-Line, an all pro center, and they suck now that Manning is gone.
But we still need to draft a QB in the first round. 1983....that's the last time this franchise did that. It's about damn time. If we get a top 5 draft pick and draft an offensive lineman I'll cry. -
Just face it.

Well, it seems to me that Colombo was not the issue in this game, S and Cb was, we get Vontae back and Jones is either benched, or the staff is happy to be fired for his poor play, but Clemons will solve that issue as well.
imo, the players are there, for whatever reason, imo coaches are playing favorites, they won't play them or they are out with injuries. -

There's no denying that a Qb is the linchpin to a great offense, it seems as if guys like Peyton Manning can win on will alone.

Are you saying that a #1 draft pick QB will suddenly turn this franchise around and immediately put points on the board so that we don't have to worry about the rest of the team's sloppy play?
How is that working for the 0-4 Rams who have scored the 2nd fewest points in the NFL (23 less than Miami)?
How about we stop the delusional thoughts of acquiring the next savior Marino as if he's some sure thing despite never winning a SB? How about we focus on what we DO have rather than what we don't?Trillfan likes this. -

Did I say I don't think it is wise to draft Luck? NO! Does Luck look the part? Oh yea! If the draft were today of course Luck is the guy to take.
However, drafting a QB does NOT make a good football team in and of itself. There are MORE misses in the 1st round than hits on QBs if the criteria is to get to and win a Super Bowl.
There are numerous examples of FRANCHISE QBs coming out of college that set a franchise back.
Let's see...Marino was the 6th QB drafted, Montana taken the 3rd round, Brady in the 6th round, Brees in the 2nd round...
6 of the past 12 starting QBs for the Super Winner were NOT 1st round draft picks and 13 of the past 24 starting QBs in the past 12 years were NOT 1st round draft picks.
Drafting a QB with the #1 pick DOES NOT guarantee the football team is going to be good. Take a look at the Rams right now.
Take Luck with the #1 pick if the draft were today...ABSOLUTELY. Would Luck make the Dolphins a good team? Nope.Trillfan likes this. -
Under no circumstance do we need to waste valuable front office time attempting to build a team around a franchise QB with "other draft picks" and "free agents".
Luck means Super Bowl year one. -
Marino was in 4 AFC Champ games in like 16 years.
Sanchez has been in 2 in 2 years.
Just saying. How 'bout we hold ourselves to a higher team standard like NY does and try and win more games as a team since a future elite QB isn't guaranteed. (or else most of the NFL would be on that waiting list). -

I t hi some of you are forgetting that Luck is not the only qb in this draft . Laundry Jones , Brandon Weeden who had a real bad game vs A&M but that wasnt his fault. the reason I love Weeden is that he has a quik relese and is a real good leader plus his experince would fit in and it wouldnt take long to get himup.
my point is we dont have to take Andrew Luck but we dont need to keep drafting 1st rd picks on the oline either we need to start drafing the best player period -
We're not a #1 draft pick team. There's no excuse for us to be playing like it.
If we play our asses off and still end up picking #1, then I'll absolutely be welcoming Luck..... but I'll STILL be holding the rest of this team and organization accountable for finishing last in the NFL despite the talent we have. Luck doesn't change crap unless this team and organization become respectable. The sooner you understand that the better my friend. Bradford looked like the most promising QB drafted since Rodgers, yet his offense is being torn to shreds. -

Were taking a QB come April. New coaching staff new regime new face of the franchise. We are getting a new QB.

ATEOTD, Miami has had numerous QB since Marino retired and none of them were good long term answers for the MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IN ALL OF SPORTS. And yet we actually have people on this board arguing against drafting a potential superstar at the most important position of all. I don't get it... It's like living in the twilight zone. Miami is clearly a team with tremendous problems at multiple positions. QB talent on the roster is clearly average at best. And since it is the most important position in sports, you have to address it. Once that happens, you build around. Does it always work out? No... There are plenty of busts at the QB position. But you miss every shot you don't take. Risk vs. Reward. Simple, right?
Miami needs to rebuild again... AGAIN. And unlike the 3-4 other times we've rebuilt since the Marino era, we need to start doing things the right way. That means no more hand me down QB from FA, 2nd round, trade, whatever other dumb **** we always do. We suck, we're getting a top 5 pick, and we should draft a QB. Hopefully Andrew Luck.Aquafin, Trowa and texanphinatic like this. -
