Merriman is really: "lights out"..

Chargers OLB Shawne Merriman (calf) is listed as doubtful for Week 4.
It's not a loss. The player formerly known as "Lights Out" has been invisible, generating a sack-less four tackles in two appearances. Per Pro Football Focus, Merriman also accounted for just one quarterback hurry. The Bolts will be better off with rookie Brandon Lang bookending Shaun Phillips.

How this dude has fallen from being one of the best to probably being benched for a better player in a Rook from a small college.

And yet there were folks on this board who wanted to trade for him as recently as this summer.

Make the throwback uniforms permanent!

Coincidence? I think not

Just to play devil's advocate, he did have some serious injuries.

Likely the juice though, or lack of in his case.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Shawne Merriman is "not on solid footing with the Chargers" and remains on the trade block with the NFL's October 19 deadline approaching.
The Union-Trib also confirms that there's been "little to no activity," and why would there be? Beat writer Kevin Acee wouldn't even rule out Merriman being cut. Extremely injury prone and lacking burst off the edge at this point in his career, Merriman holds little to no value in San Diego or anywhere else.

Well, I'm one of the people Muck referenced in desiring a trade fore Merriman.

Here is why, I think the situation in SD is THAT toxic that players are beginning to just mail it in.

Anyone think VJax is holding out for the fun of it? Why did LT re-emerge in NYJ after being considered "done" for two years now?

Merriman has alternately had calf problems and a knee issue, if he is ever 100% this guy was a top 12 pick in terms of talent, why not take a shot on him>?

Padre's whole point is there were hundreds of post in the "LT to the Jets" thread stating the exact same thing. He is implying SD is the problem.

Yep, players are only "good soldiers' for so long once they realize the Organization is simply not going to pay them even when they play at a high level, even All Pros like Logan Mankins or All Time Leading rushers such as LT.

Not saying Merriman has a huge value, I am saying he would be worth a flyer if he became available.

Exactly, people are talking about the 'roids, but he is still a young player who has some leg issues, if he can be scooped up cheaply why not take a shot with him?

How much more embarrassment before he becomes the Canseco of pro football?
Lose in a kickbox fight vs Betty White?

Headcoach material wouldn’t want to work somewhere they’re not trusted with actual football decisions.

Merriman will end up being waived:

ChargersPRguy Bill Johnston by DavidJNeal
Chargers put Shawne Merriman on Reserve-Injured with calf injury / minor-injury designation, which means team must release him when healthy.

Interesting way to wind up releasing him, knowing AJ Smith Merriman will be humilated, THEN released.

Probably not. I would say that is also why he has so many medical issues now too.

Me to, but only if he were a free agent. I wouldn't give up a draft pick for him. Not even a 7th.

AJ Smith is a piece of work. I think he gets canned at the end of this year. Especially if they don't make the playoffs. The players don't want to be there in beautiful San Diego because of him.

Someone will pick him up. It won't be us though.

I'd have to at least kick the tires a little once he gets released.
