Miami Dolphins’ line depth depleted on offense, defense

Injuries continued to create issues at Dolphins camp Wednesday, with versatile offensive lineman Nate Garner and third-string quarterback Pat Devlin the latest to be sidelined.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins remain without defensive linemen Randy Starks (knee) and Dion Jordan, who reinjured his troublesome shoulder during Friday’s game at Jacksonville. A league source said the Dolphins expect Jordan will be ready before the Sept. 8 opener at Cleveland, but it’s uncertain when he will be able to practice.

The injury is to the same shoulder that was surgically repaired in February.

• The Dolphins on Wednesday made ample and effective use of a formation with an empty backfield and five players lined up as receivers: Wallace, Brian Hartline, Miller, tight end Dustin Keller and either receiver Brandon Gibson or tight end/fullback Charles Clay.

Looks like the coaches are giving Starks the preseason off. Good for them. It's screwed up how he didn't get a new deal.

Do third stringers ever get hurt? Or do the coaches just play them hurt regardless?

It always seems to be a starter or high-profile player.

well...I bet whatever injury starks has wouldn't keep a third stronger from practicing, ill say that. same goes for jordan imo.

tend to heal quicker/be more resistant when your entire job is on the line.

Our guys will be ready to go, we should be fine, Starks being out for half of preseason ain't sh&$.. All our guys are scheduled to be back by opener..

Most of the teams are suffering some form of injury to starters. Let's hope we're healthy for the Browns game and beyond.
