Love the 2 TE set. It creates good mismatches. It gives you many options. It can bust the seams and the weaknesses in many coverages. :up:
Coach Tony Sparano said the combination of Clay and veteran Anthony Fasano is closing in on the effectiveness of Dolphins' best duo at the position. That distinction belongs to Fasano and David Martin in 2008 when they caught 65 passes for 904 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Fasano and Clay have combined for 36 catches, 557 yards and five touchdowns.

For me, Fasano is perfect for it, but I still think a player like Dwayne Allen or Orson Charles should be on the radar, but not over a more explosive 2nd receiver in the 2nd round.

I'm curious. How is Miami behind the curve on this when they utilized the two tight end set very effectively in 2008 with Anthony Fasano and David Martin? No, it wasn't to the extent that New England uses Gronkowski and Hernandez, but no team uses their tight ends that way other than NE.

We had a competent veteran QB and a staff that entrusted him with the offense.
I've never been sold on Fasano. He's having his best year since 2008 but I really can't stand a TE who's neither a consistent catcher nor an above average blocker. He's average at both. Good enough to be a backup on most teams. I've always thought of him as a decent rental option until we found a true starting TE who's either a threat in the passing game or an effective blocker/short range game type. Fasano is decent but I wish we would've upgraded the position by now, but it looks like this regime is intent on keeping Fasano here until he retires or leaves via FA.

i tend to think he is an above average blocker and pass catcher. not elite at either but he is a pretty good package for the position.
vt_dolfansubscriberIMO Fasano is highly under rated and under valued by alot of fans. I believe him to be a very good TE and a perfect compliment with Clay

Not sure where you get that, as Fasano is considered one of the premier blocking TE's in the league. And while he's not an elite receiving TE, he's also a bit underrated in part due to the fact that he's been left in to block quite a bit during stint in Miami.
rafaelforum_veteranI lobbied for Miami to do this before the 2010 draft where both NE and Baltimore doubled up on the TEs. I thought it was obvious that it was where the league was headed and it was the best TE draft I could recall. According to reports, the Dolphins wanted Graham so maybe they were on board. I think they just undervalued the position. They shouldn't have since they saw the value in 2008 and b/c they knew they would have a young QB. There were many good TEs in that draft and when they missed out on Graham they seemed to forget about the position.

LarryfinfansubscriberI agree that Fasano is undervalued, but that's probably because he occasionally goes into the 'drop pass mode' for some reason. It's like he gets into a funk for a few games....Think about the first 3 games...he must have dropped 4-6 balls in that time period. Since then, he's been fine. But he can get open when called on to do so, although he's not a Gonzalez or Gates and he's as good a blocking TE as there is in the league...

I only disagree because rob gronkowski should of been the pick in that particular draft...Pegged him as being the best tight end in the game in three years, I was wrong, it took him 2.

But we should have taken him in the third ahead of John Jerry. That was what I mean about undervaluing the position.
