I really don't see how we can afford not to take Xavier Rhodes at 12. He's big,fast,a ballhawk and wraps up his tackles, good blitzer off the edge. I want this dude bad and cb is a huge need.

That's what I've heard. I haven't watched enough of either to have an informed opinion yet, but, I've also heard some on the board say that Jonathan Banks is more suited for zone coverage. If it's true the Phins are going to more of a quarters defense (which I love), then smart zone corners are what they need.

 

Florida State runs a zone oriented defense.

 

his physical play at the line of scrimmage and his overall play make him better suited in a press heavy scheme though, imo

Yea but according to report we are really interested in him so they must think he can do it. I do like trufant and jamar Taylor but both are in that middle area in too high for 12 but don't think they'll last until 42.

 

With our sudden plethora of WRs I think the position is covered...If they take one, I figure it'll be a later round. Hopefully we take 2 CBs in the early rounds.

 

Tavon Austin will be the first round pick unless a team jumps above Miami to get him. Dolphins hope cbs like Slay and Banks are available at their 2nd round selections.

 

Austin is tempting as the guy is a playmaker but after the Ted ginn experiment, I'm gonna shy away. While Austin actually produced in college at the wr position unlike ginn, that small frame isn't the most reassuring thing. If we are looking for another speedy receiver at less risk, swopes in the 3rd makes a lot more sense since he knows the offense and played with Tannehill.

You mention a small frame but Ginn doesn't have a history of injury. They are nothing alike at all.

 

Banks is absolutely awful, ill be pissed if they take him.

 

Both viewed as playmakers with speed which has skyrocketed both their draft value. Like I stated, Austin a lot more polished as a receiver but too small and not enough high of a need, we have 4 good wrs so unless Austin can play corner, Austin at 12 would be horrible

 

I like Swopes. I think he will be gone in the 2nd round. There are 32 teams looking at him.

CB is not a major need. We didn't lose games because our defense sucked, we lost games because we couldn't score. Austin helps us score.

 

Idk prolly a good 10 wr that should be drafted before him think 3rd is his peak, could drop into the 4th but I'd grab him at 3b

 

I'm not comparing players, I'm comparing draft positions.... Ginn was selected too high because of his playmaking ability and speed or so they thought. Same goes for Austin, granted not comparing playing just positions, I believe Austin will be a good player but all the hype around Austin scares me. I really don't know how you can say cb is not a major need? We lost Sean smith, you really want to go into the season with dimitri Patterson and Marshall starting with Clemons at safety... I really don't see the point of resigning reshad jones next year if we aren't gonna give him any talent to work with.

 

Ginn was drafted for his playmaking ability, he was drafted for speed and speed only. Austin is wholly different. He's produced and his skills translate to the NFL. Ginn lust was totally about measurables while Austin lust is totally about tape. They are in no way similar other than being carbon based lifeforms.

CB is not a major need in regards to needing to spend early picks on one. We can get along just fine by taking the correct guys later. FA is also not over yet.

As for why have Jones if we don't have better talent at the CB position.....WADR, that is quite frankly one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

Oh and last time I checked we were 27th in passing yards allowed, playoffs teams don't finish 27th,lose their best corner then don't add top talent. Meanwhile our pass offense was ranked 26th and we've added Keller,Wallace and Gibson. So hmm let's think about it for a second. We lost our best corner and added 3 positions to our receiving core....I wonder which position we need more a 4th or 5th wr or a starting corner?

We are converting to a quarters based defense. We didn't have the pieces to do that last year. Its why we got the 2 LBs we did because they are good in space and are good at pass rushing, which is how we are going to improve our pass defense.
