Where is he projected to go in the draft?
-
Never heard about that site

Interesting he scored 11 TD's with Tanny and only 8 with Johnny Football/Heisman winner, does that speak to Tanny being better than we think or did his replacement/Heisman guy have more/better targets? This raises a LOT of questions. Great thread, looking forward to learning more. -
This site has Swope at 123 which is actually one of the lower rankings Ive seen for him:http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/2013/WRshula_guy likes this. -

He also has a high 4th round grade here:

I like Swope. Wouldn't be a bad pickup. He knows the system, has talent, etc... I wouldn't hate the pick in late round 3 or 4. However, I'm still far more interested in Bailey and Patton. If we have a shot at those two and pass I'm going to be incredibly disappointed. Unless of course, we get Ertz/Eifert and Bailey in round 2 and Patton is gone by our next opportunity. Then Swope becomes interesting depending on who's left on the board.
How tall is Swope? I've seen him listed from 6' to 6'2". -
I'd be pretty surprised to see him go before the 4th round. This is a very good draft for WRs in rounds 2 and 3. I like Swope and wouldn't mind the Dolphins drafting him, but that's only if they have already drafted another WR earlier.
-
By the way. The title of this is misleading. They say the Dolphins WILL look to draft Swope, but the article says nothing about any rumor of them targeting him. Rather it's them speculating how he would be a good fit.

I suspect Swope - or someone like him - will be the selection on draft day.
Ireland's MO lends to that assumption. My guess is he spends the first three rounds on OL, DL, and DB before switching his sights to the WR position. -

It's quite rationale reasoning actually.
As I said, his track record, so far has been to not spend high picks on WR. I think he's only used 1 pick in the first 3 rounds on a WR since he's been here (3rd round on Patrick Turner).
He tends to use the first 3 rounds on linemen, DB and QB's almost exclusively. The only exception are Turner, Koa Misi and Daniel Thomas.
It so happens we have needs at OL, DL, and CB. I fully expect those three position to be drafted in the first three rounds.
We do have an extra third, so I suspect that may be where we go WR. -
Hope I'm wrong, but I still don't see him drafting a WR until the 3rd at the earliest. -
-
-
The Patriots will draft him, because he's an overachieving white guy.
-
-
It's baseless.
Well he's taken not one, not two, but THREE quarterbacks in the first 2 rounds since being in Miami. There it is. Proof. 1st round? OL. 2nd round? QB. The past two years, Ireland has traded UP for a running back! Okay so we can be assured that we're getting an offensive lineman in the 1st, then we can guarantee we're getting a QB in the 2nd, and likely going to trade UP in the 3rd for a running back.
Do you see what that's absolutely silly to think? Every single year is different. You're attempting to create a pattern or trend when in reality it's an entirely different set of circumstances each and every time. -
-
Ireland has shown that he places a higher value on certain positions over others. (I'm not bashing, I'm just making an observation)
This leads me to believe that that he will have players at the certain positions higher on his draft board because he values that position more. -
But we do have needs at OL, DL, and CB.
Three positions Ireland has used high picks on. Meanwhile he tends to used mid-to-low picks on WR. And again, I don't mean that as a shot at him, it's just a trend I see.
If the trend is just a coincidence, so be it. But if it's not, and it is in fact a trend based on his values, it only stands to reason that chances are we'd draft those positions before WR. -
Swope's an interesting player, but I'm not sure how he fits with Miami's present roster, especially if they retain Brian Hartline. It's adding more of the same dynamic to the receiver rotation in my opinion. Now, if Miami doesn't bring back Hartline and lands someone like a Mike Wallace or Cordarrelle Patterson...maybe even Greg Jennings, I think there's a role you can carve out for him.

Again, the system in place before Philbin didn't put a high priority on WRs, especially high in the draft. Basically what we have is you not factoring in different systems and assuming Ireland always does the same thing regardless of system. There's no evidence to suggest that and evidence to suggest otherwise actually.
You're also ignoring that fact that needs are not always equal. Our "need" at DL is not as severe as our "need" at WR. -
Not to split hairs, but where in that article is there any indication that the Dolphins are actively looking to add Swopes? Just seems like pure speculation on the author's part, and certainly shouldn't qualify as a "rumor".
-
I just said this was my gut feeling.
Besides, we had a need for WR at last years draft under Philbin, but we still waited until the 6th round.
Also, we both know WR isn't a very important position anyway. No matter what a WR does it ALL comes back to the QB anyway. So, really, who gives a **** about all this.Fin D likes this. -

Why do I see the Pats moving ahead of us in the 3rd or 4th and taking this guy? Lol, I wouldn't mind seeing us draft him, I think he'll have a successful NFL career, is he going to be great? I doubt it but he should be productive in the NFL and having a guy that Tannehill is comfortable with is a big plus.
