(" Quote from Carroll") Flynn will compete with Tarvaris Jackson, last year's starter, for the No. 1 job. Jackson last year threw 14 touchdown passes vs. 13 interceptions and compiled a 79.2 passer rating. Matt Moore had 16 TD passes, nine interceptions and an 87.1 rating for Miami last year. The Dolphins' decision to pass on Flynn is widely perceived as a sign Philbin feels Moore will prove to be as good or better this year and beyond.
Carroll wondered if the Dolphins may have been victimized by their own overconfidence.
Interesting Quote imo
"The only speculation I would make is they may have felt like they had him. Which is logical to do," he said. "But once the negotiations got going he said he wanted to come to us. We gave him a really good deal, and for us it worked out really well."

Carroll has to be wondering, like many of us for that matter, why the Dolphins weren't willing to match the offer.
I guess we'll see how well it worked out for him in January. -
I'm not a huge follower of college ball and I'd never claim to a talent evaluator, but am I in minority in preferring to BPA at 8 and go after Osweiler in the mid-late rounds? Instead of Tannehill at 8, that is.

I'd like to trade back into the first to around like the later teens and take Colby Fleener (TE) and acquire another 2nd or 3rd rounder to spend on a WR. That is unless Blackmon is available.
If you want a mid round talent to develop we already have one. Devlin, from watching his tape, is just as talented as any mid rounder this year and does some things EXTREMELY well. He just needs some consistency and I think you have a guy who at the very least is a very good backup.DHPVW likes this. -
I wonder if Ireland really wants to be making the Arizona State visit or if he's doing so to downplay our interest in Tannehill.
Not taking away from Osweiler, but I'm guessing it's the latter. -

Why do I even read the comments?

ck Kendall Hunter who was heads and shoulder above Daniel Thomas and now it looks like we are fgoing to pass on Weeden to take another lower teired player from the big 12 , I always thought a good front office would take a closer look at the better players not just from Texas A&M the miami area media is even worse.
just because we are saddled with a underacheiving coach as MIKE Sherman should not be a precurser togetting a overrated player .
I would be happy if we got Blackmon and ot Levey Adecock or Markell Martin even wr Josh Cooper and weeden would be a good combo.
sorry guys i am rather sick of seeing the btter players from the big tewlve going to contenders while we continue to get the seth Mckinney s and wade smiths . -

you're comparing Wade SMith and McKinney to Tannehill?

That Von Miller guy has really stunk it up by the way, so at least you have that in your corner. Just sayin. -

"Carroll wonders if his second NFL stint is going to be as bad as his first"
"The Friends" of the Seattle Seahawks probably promised Flynn a special signing bonus.... -

IMO it's similar to why you don't see 6'10 point guards. They could be massively athletic, but their length makes it virtually impossible to perform the quicker twitched duties the position requires to be consistent & successful.
ADDED: Watch all of his Boise State snaps and see if you notice it. When I watch him I see as skill set that more says Roethlisberger in Pitt or Flacco in Baltimore than Rodgers in GB. Also, IMO he seems more comfortable throwing downfield where as the short stuff seems a little less natural, more forced.
Personally, I'm not a fan of his. His game is sloppy IMO. I don't like 6'07 QB's. and I wouldn't use anything higher than a late 5th on him b/c his contract will likely be up before he's ready to see the field.

No need to "resist" when it's in good humor, blacklight...... or can I call you Mr PinkFloyd or Hendrix instead? :shifty:
PS: why do you think I chose 6'10? :) -

What time is Tanny's Pro Day?

I'm not an Osweiller fan. I think he's very over rated. I don't see great accuracy or decision-making. He's athletic for a tall guy, but not particularly athletic for say a 6'4" QB. His mechanics are inconsistent. I just don't see anything special about the guy. I don't see him as likely to ever be a franchise QB. In fact, I would say the odds are greater that he never starts an NFL game.

And no, Osweiler's not "extremely" athletic. He's athletic. Don't throw on a modifier that doesn't belong. If he were extremely athletic, he'd still be playing basketball...... in the NBA.

I think, despite 2 first rounders, the Browns are going to lose a guy they covet highly b/c they likely won't want to take him at 4, and he'll be gone by us at 8. IMO we're in the perfect spot at 8 b/c it already represents a slight reach; therefore, I honestly don't see teams pulling the trigger on draft day to trade up any higher than 8 b/c that would make the reach a little extreme IMO.
If we were at 10, I could see a team moving up to 9, but I really don't see anyone trading up to 7, especially when the cost would have to be high enough for Jax to forego one of the top tier remaining 5 players. -

If we taget Weeden in the second who is going to chose and grab him before us?? Not many would be looking for a QB period if CLE takes Tanny.
